  1. Copy this! It'd be cool to see it up on second gen forester strut assemblies! I've heard good things about this set-up giving and outback a lift, so think more lift than just an OB strut swap
  2. I'd say HOT" as in thermal not neato 'course I'm not experienced with WI temperatures
  3. *thumbs up!* hey kyle, is that the same area you introduced folks to your monster WRX articulation pix? i bet a whole new universe just opened up for you!
  4. Yeah! Jeez, it's been, like forever!!
  5. You made lower arms for the 'ol EA82 also? SIQ!!
  6. Roger that and thanx. I've got one on offroadsubarus too (an aussie site)
  7. *subscribed* NICE!! oooooo, and automatic I'll be following this one. I like looking for other 95's gettin' fixed up.
  8. Good to see this one, good to see Kyle!!! (I've been a little out of the loop lately
  9. Hey there, I've got a thread in new gen forum http://ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=111151 with a bunch of questions on what's available, in a 5 speed, down under. The thread is what I think I understand what australia ha, but I'm looking for verification to help narrow my search... Thanks for looking and helping.
  10. I'm very interested in the dual range 5 speeds available down under (and I think Latin America and Europe, but maybe easiest to get from down under??). I have questions on what was made and is available in Australia. As I understand it, and please correct me if I'm wrong (this is regarding 5 speed manuals): -EA81 ("MY" series?) transmissions are 3.70 final drive with a 1.44:1 low range and are PT4WD (loyale in USA) -EA82 ("L" series?) transmissions are 3.70 OR 3.90 final drive with a 1.59:1 low range and are PT4WD (loyale in USA) -EA82 turbo transmissions are 3.90 final drive with a 1.19:1 low range and are PT4WD (loyale in USA) -RX trannies are 3.70 final with a 1.59:1 low and are FT 4WD with(?) locking center diff -XT6 (in USA) are 3.90 final with a 1.59:1 low and are FT 4WD with locking center diff -EJ18?? I've seen a couple in older USA imprezas but don't know much about them. Maybe 4.11 5 speed?? (not sure) -EJ22 (liberty down under?), or first gen liberty (legacy in USA) are 3.90 final with a 1.19:1 low range and are FTAWD (USA had some 4.11 final 5 speed single range FT AWD, mine's a 95, thus second gen legacy, and is 3.90 final SR FT AWD) -EJ25 forester are 4.11 final with a 1.44:1 low range gear and are FT AWD -EJ25 outback (australia) I think were 3.90 final with 1.19:1 low gear -EJ25 impreza (down under) are 3.90 final with a 1.59:1 low range gear and are FT AWD and beyond that I don't have any ideas, like newer/second gen legacy/liberty or second gen forester (?2003-2005?) And I'm sure turbos mix it up more... I'm interested in a discussion verifying what's really around down under. This will really help me narrow my search and what it is I'm really looking for What would be ideal for my interest and application (and I understand it can be made by marrying up to 3 different transmissions) would be a FT AWD, locking center diff with 4.11 final and a 1.59:1 low. BUT, What would be quite practical and probably more plug-and-play (if it comes this way) would be a 4.11 final with 1.44:1 low (again, 1.59 would be better and could be created but again with more customizing) to bolt up to my EJ22 legacy. Or second most practical would be a 3.90 final (straight bolt up and no rear diff swap on my current rig) with 1.59:1 low (I think this is came in an australian impreza?) I'd prefer a 4.11 final to compensate for my taller tires and would prefer a 1.59:1 low, for obvious reasons, BUT a 1.44:1 low would be fine! OR, I could live with a 3.90 final (since that's what I've been driving for 6 years on tall tires) with 1.59:1 low. SO, let the discussion begin I'd especially like to hear from you folks in Australia and New Zealand. Ooh, I think Latin America and Europe got the FTAWD dual ranges like down under... so there's that too... Thanks!
  11. Hey Glwilson, Take ground to top of fender, ground to body line and ground to rear diff and front x-member measurements before and after you install the rear trailing arm brackets.. I'm curious, since I've thought about putting them in my rig, but think it might decrease rear clearance to the diff... I hope I'm not too late ciao!
  12. I'd be psyched to see a spare on a swing arm on an iMP!!! Possibly fine on the bumer by removing the bumper skin, bolting/welding the braketry to the bumper andtrimming the skin around that metal to have a clean finished look, but a tube rear would look sick and be functional.. BUT there're these vents beneith the side skirts of the rear bumper skin that are a trick to tidy up once you remoe the skin.... good thoughts on where you're going with this!!! (is it an auto or stick?)
  13. NICE... I have the bracket (as on page 2) as per Gloyale's comment, still on the trailing arm...
  14. SICK!! Actually I've got a pair. I'll bring them up for the rally this weekend, how 'bout that? Maybe a trade for outback front coils?
  15. Ain't that the DAM truth?!!
  16. WORD! Nice lookin' rig! what size tires are those, you're runnng an OB rim there right? Anyhoo, with bikes and a rig like that, come visit me in Moab
  17. Word! Just got yer PM, then checked the thread (now after this rely to look at page 3 ). See you out there on the 27th!! WOOT WOOT!! I think that pic os all rear springs, FOR, LEG, IMP, since it was the rear I swapped out to give more tire room. But if you're going to do the OB trailing arm swap, you should be golden on OB or FOR springs! I have a hunch but not yet confirmed that FOR springs are a touch taller/stiffer than OB springs.. At least that's the hope for my rig. CU at MSP the 27th!
  18. (I think I) PMed you about your "lifted" sedan. I've got a strut-lifted 95 sedan too, just want to compare notes cheers, -mw-
  19. Off this thread's topic but noticing a contributor's ride, you (subimonster) are rolling an 95 legacy L. I'd like to hear and see pix of what you've done to yours. I'm in a 95 L and have done some work too, just curious about other 95 sedan builds. OK, diversion ended AWESOME build on the monster wagon BTW! I'd also like to get more about this build... I think you mentioned a samuri x-fer case, but that's about it... Ooh and lots of axle snapping
  20. I did forester struts in my wife's 93 iMP, and the rear clunking I had was due to the forester shock collar being smaller than the imp SHOCK COLLAR... So i put a fatty washer on top of the tophat before adding the stub nut , this sandwhiched everything nicely so the nut tightened to the washer rather than running out of thread before seating on the tophat... It looks good! Are you using OB struts AND springs?? I have a junkyarding favor to ask, since you're out looking all the time, and that looking is 4.5 HOUR drive for me spring height (as I've found) FOR, LEG, IMP left to right trailing arm height from OB and the stud difference (IMP left, FOR right) nice work, I like the progress!! might you be going to the rally cross on the s7th at miller sports park?
  21. roger that. I was thinking you'd done FOR struts then OB struts into an IMP. Thanks for clarifying your rig was a leggo, as IMP/Forester platforms are a bit different than legacy/OBs. I realize the thread title is lifting legacy on OB stuff but there's been discussion introduced on lifting imprezas (which I helped fuel if not address ). Yes in weight (OB>FOR), but aren't forester springs a bit stiffer. I've read, but haven't personally confirmed, that LEG and OB springs are the same. If so then FOR springs (if not also stiffer) are taller then OB springs (as in my pic above with FOR sping left, LEG center, IMP right.) Gloyale, your wagon looks taller than my sedan ended up, but maybe its the difference in stockish tires that I don't remember on mine (its been almost 6 years on ATs). Looks good and tall, kudos! *EDIT* it is taller! The body line looks at if not a hair above the center of the wheels. That green Leggo is JUST on OB struts and springs, is that right? Nice work!
  22. SWEET!! GR2s or an EA82? Nice!! so wagon springs on newer struts with lift blocks, am I reading/remembering this right?? the body to tire clearance looks nice, and I rmember your axles as being horizontal last time, so probly just a touch less than flat with this lifitng so probly just fine (when remembering my rear axles on OB struts and taller tires..not flat) Anyhoo, good work on this rig dood!! I like the stenciling, nicely in theme with your paint scheme!!
  23. Pix of this one?? I've been interested in you IMP lifting experiences too, since doing mine the way I did.
  24. zyewdall, what is the vehicle? I went back to scan the posts and think you're talking raising an IMP, but still not sure. From my experience (lifting a 93 IMP on 98 Forester gear...) rear? 98 FOR left 93 IMP right and the above pic is the front? 93 IMP left and 98 FOR right and all stock 93 IMP all 98 FOR suspension (strut, and spring, BUT IMP tophats) Mellowed out the rear rake by using 95 LEG springs in rear FOR struts I did not like the rear rake, and the wheel swung forward with the lift. Some just grind out the body and call it good, others swap out the forester trailing arm? I lowered with a legacy spring and got 195x65 15" tires in there with an inch of clearance to the fender and over an inch to the strut above just fine. Could've gone 205x5's but got a good deal on the odd size tires. . . here is 98 FOR strut, spring and tophat with the new IMP tophat for comparison.FOR tophats don't bolt into IMP rear mounts, front does!! FOR upper spring perch and topha
  25. Power/weight ratio . . . priceless!!
