  1. If this is a junk yard engine, I'd do the rear seal plate and put it in. If it runs good then do the rest. Its a little more work and not quite as easy, but there is no reason to do all that work if the engine is not good.
  2. The Trip is complete, Thanks for a great car Rich! Good Luck on the sale of you RS If you need something moved and your along the express route, I'll be leaving Thursday and should be in CO on Sat. Limited detours, no delays. You'd have to meet me near the expressway. Lmdew@hotmail.com 98 Impreza Outback Sport.
  3. Easy sway and the price on the 2.2 is good. Just a little less power, but it will run for ever.
  4. Lot of the OBDII programs will let you see the O2 sensors and their response. The sensors should be changing between 0.5 and 0.9 volts, rapidly. If the cat is blocked you would most likely have a CEL. Is the CEL on? A blocked CAT will not go away. You could always drop the cat and see if the problem goes away, but it will be very loud.
  5. You most likely have air in the system. I'd let it cool, then jack the front as high as possible. Pull the return hose (upper) and slowly fill it with coolant. Put the hose back on and fill the radiator and overflow bottle. Start the engine and squeeze the upper hose to force the air bubbles out of the overflow. Keep doing this until the engine warms up and the thermostat is open. Let it cool and it should suck fluid back into the radiator. Do this a few times and you should get all of the air out. If its still overheating, thermostat would be the next item, make sure you get the air out after the change.
  6. Pull the dash and remove one speedo mounting screw at a time. Clean the screw and the mount and put it back in. If this does not fix the problem, I have a good 99 gauge cluster FS. Lmdew@hotmail.com
  7. Does it turn over by hand? 22mm nut on the front pulley. You can jump the starter directly from the battery. at the back of the starter the is one plug which gives power to the sol. The main positive lead and that's it. Always check the battery terminals and cables for corrosion.
  8. I have a good ABS unit for you. How's $60 shipped FedEx to a business, add $5 for a home address. Lmdew@homtail.com Later, Larry
  9. one motor does both wipers. The motor is on the passenger side in the engine bay. The linkage is straight forward so yes, its most likely the wiper arm.
  10. I need to hook my computer up to your 99-2001 Impreza 2.2. My front O2 sensor is showing 3.8 volts average voltage well above the normal .5-.9 volts for a normal 02 sensor. I would need about 15 minutes and I'll just plug into the OBDII plug and check what your O2 sensors are doing. Thanks, Lmdew@hotmail.com
  11. Follow the lower radiator hose to the engine. Its in that housing, 2 10mm bolts. Make sure you burp the system when you refill it so you get all the air out. Lots of post on doing that.
  12. Mouse Milk is a great rust buster, but any good rust buster oil will help. Give it some time to work. If its still stuck, have him check the lower attach bolts and pull the complete assy. With it off the car, that large hammer will do more work to drive the bolt out. If all else fails, hit the local yard and get a used part.
  13. The slave cylinder that pushes the fork. There is also the bleeder manifold which is on the side of the trans. I'm sure you could get them to bolt up.
  14. I think so, the fork may have to be changed. We went the other way with my sons, and welded the top of the cable fork to the Hyd fork and its working fine. The cylinder bolt up may requrie some work.
  15. You can always watch the yards and pickup some used KYB struts. That way you will not have to worry about the springs, just unbolt and bolt the new set in. KYB are great struts but the ride will be stiff compared to stock.
  16. The cover is part of the airbag. I've had it off and its one piece. If the crack does not bother you, you could leave it. The airbag does have a limited life and if its open to stuff, it would age faster. Just a thought.
  17. NAPA or any quality auto parts store should have a seal puller. It looks a little like a claw hammer, handle with a single curved claw very skinny. I've also had good luck drilling a small hole in the seal and then threading in a screw far enough to pull the seal out with. There is less than a 1/4" of space behind the seal so you have to be careful but it works.
  18. The whole cross brace may have shifted back. I'd try to pull it forward after you back the nuts off a turn or two. Two bolts on the upper frame. I'd also look at the frame itself, any damage, bends.... A good cable come-a-long and stout tree will help.
  19. Thanks for the info, that's what I was thinking, but I've been working on the 2.2 for a few years.
  20. OBDII code readers start at about $70.00 and go up from there. If you just want to find out what the code is, hit the auto parts store near you. Most read the codes for free so they can sell you the part to fix it.
  21. I have a guy who has a 92 Loyal wagon that says the engine has no compression as the timimg belt has slipped. I'm thinking I just need to re-index the belts and set the tension. This is a non-interference engine, correct? Thanks, Larry
  22. You may or may not have a hill holder. If your car has it, its right below the master cylinder and there is a cable that goes to the clutch fork. You can disconnect the cable at either end and make sure the valve is full open. Its spring loaded open but I have seen them stick.
