I hate to be the heavy but you leave me no choice. You posted about wheeling on private land. You were told it is such and that it was trespassing. Therefore this becomes an illegal topic which can and will not be allowed.

Roofline Snorkel, Why?
Snorkels were designed for the Safari. They have been brought into the rest of off-roading from there. The original concept behind snorkels was to get the air intake to clean air. The dust and dirt from the Safari and deserts is why it is located above roof line. Not neccessarily because of water but like I said not the original reason for them any way.

Last-minute XT6 advice before I head to PaP?
Geoffrey, you'll need to swap strut tops from the XT6 and the Legacy. Otherwise you'll need to grind the hole a bit. Also note, that the Legacy struts have camber adjustment and the XT6 does not. Make sure the bolts are super tight. You may also have to spread the Legacy strut mounts a litlle to fit them up to the XT6 knuckle/spindle. 2wd drive XT rears will give a slight amount of lift to the rear over 4WD. The 2wd drive rears are actually a slight bit longer because the mounting locations are different.

EA82 2 Piece Driveline --> Lifted Ea81
I have done it both ways. My hatch had a two piece. I had it made with larger diameter tubing for the back half and servicable u-joint as well. Matt is right about it being a little difficult to weld the mount for the carrier bearing but it is doable. It does get it out of the way but not by that much.

fastest EA's?
I think I can pull more than that. I have run mine well over 6K many times and it loves it!!Maybe I'll just have to go to the track.

did these cars ever come out of the factory?
I knew that looked familiar. Pic taken at the shop right?

Why Brat Seats Are Hard To Find
Go to any 4X4 swap meet and you will find at least one set. They are used by many offroaders for rear seats. They can be left in the elements and fit in just about any configuration. It's been that way for years. At least they actually use them!!
-
have you seen this
The wheel shown will not fit a Brat or any other EA** Subaru for that matter(without mods). The wheels further down the pages are indeed for the Subaru's. Standard "H" pattern alloy's that can be had for that price for 2 complete sets!

fastest EA's?
My '85 Brat may qualify for EA81. I have never taken it to the track but seat of the pants testing and many shocked passengers may be testimony enough! Estimated hp by builders, cam grinders and experienced modifiers is about 150bhp at the crank. It has set fastest lap times at ORG rallyx is the past. The XT6 is also a bit modified as well. I doubt it is the fastest though. There have been a few people who played with nitrous setups with these. I also have a 2.5 Brighton that puts out some power that is being compared with the WRX. I have not dyno'd any of these vehicles so all claims are just that.

Mechanic replaced [lots o'stuff] -vibration - vibrates; how bad can it get?
It may be a bearing, a motor/trans mount, a driveline(U-joints are staked), could be an axle even. Is the dog bone(engine stabilizer) connected and tight? Are you feeling it in the gas pedal itself or the floor beneath your foot? Must be very frustrating!

Please help
Taking out the entire dash is a huge pain. You may be able to access the area by removing the dash cluster. There should be 3 screws on the top and a couple on the bottom. Remove the bezel(trim) and there will be a few more screws. Remove these, pull the cluster out enough to get to the plugs and unhook them. Remove the speedo cable and it should pull out of the dash. The should give you enough room to get to the area to check for a bad relay or bare wires. Good luck.

New Wheeler
I'll combine this one if it is an "official" wheeler. Same info in two forums is crossposting and not allowed! Even you have to follow the rules.
-
i did it... i got a Cardomain Page...
Way to go Dave. What's involved in getting a page?
-
New Wheeler
Nope, but it sure is showing up in a bunch of forums too!! Which forum do you want it to stay in Brian?!?

I'll take all the advice I can get.
What firing order did you use?

how much hp gain
That telephone pole didn't jump in front of you! That motor didn't explode. You could pass Cali inspection. How many questions were posed by you? Or were you just post whoring again? My hatch was retired due to rusty body mounts. After 5 years and 30K.

how much hp gain
Uhhh, yeah... Let me see if I get what's being said here. If you add more air and more fuel you will not gain HP. GD(Rick) you usually have somewhat intellegent things to add to topics. However, you are right back to badgering people who second guess your opinion. You do not have all the answers. BTW, the ASV adds unburned fuel and exhaust back into the system not oxygen into the exhaust. To all those who think GD is spot on. Just because he speaks loudest and most often does not make him right all the time. A simple case of speak what you know not what you think! Using the search function can and will answer a lot of the simple most asked questions. However, not everyone knows how to use the search engine to it's fullest. This is an enthusiasts forum. We get new enthusiasts every day. Quit being an rump roast!

how much hp gain
Now there's something Brian could answer, from experience! How many have you retired that didn't run right or you personally wrecked?

disc brake swap ...DONE!!!!!
My swap parts came from a '93 Legacy "L". I didn't have any issue with the cables being too long.
-
WARNING: Turbo Fitment
I appreciate your zest but these do not turn the typw of rpm's to really benefit from those parts. WWU has had a storied history of automotive modifications that were truly revolutionary. Good luck but think through expensive versus benefit when building this one up.

disc brake swap ...DONE!!!!!
The biggest contributor to time will be disassembly. If things come apart easy then it could be as fast as 2 hrs with air tools. If they are resistant to removal then it will take longer. Be sure to swap out the whole knuckle/hub assy. Also make sure that if you have ABS that the new parts have it as well. The E-brake lines will need to be swapped as well. Leave them connected to the brakes and disconnect at the E-brake handle. I can't tell you how long it took me as I did it when I replaced all the running gear on my Impreza. I do not like Subaru drum brakes. Even when adjusted correctly they do not work real well. Every Subaru I own has had the swap if they didn't have rear discs already.

hand throttle
Opinions differ in this subject. VLSD's are useless offroad. LSD's do just what they are intended to do. They give traction at low speeds but break loose under heavy bind to eliminate and/or reduce breakage. Most people make this mistake when installing them. They expect them to stay engaged no matter what. The comparison between lockers of any type and LSD's is comparing apples to oranges. None to be had really. The only truely positive tracion device for a Subaru will be welding. This option will break more parts than any other. The hand throttle is used by many true crawlers and others as well. It gives better control of the vehicle in risky situations. If you haven't needed it you probably haven't been in a bad situation that needed extra control of your vehicle. I have been in a few situations that a hand throttle might have made it easier to get through or out of. The other thing to keep in mind is that everyones idea of off-roading is different. Some think a forest service road at high speed is 4Xing. Others think hill climbs and mud bogs are the only thing to do. Not many rigs here are built to do it all. I still sport a dent from someone who thought they could take an inferior vehicle through the same thing as my Brat. Ended up having to pull them out with a fried clutch and soaked interior.

WARNING: Turbo Fitment
I agree to a point. The reasons that people keep dumping them are numerous. First and foremost is that there is not any aftermarket support and there won't be any for a discontiued motor that is 20+ yrs old. There is more power to be had, but at what expense?
-
WARNING: Turbo Fitment
Right, and the EA81/82 turbo's share the same up-pipe but different dp's. Keep working toward guru status CF!
-
WARNING: Turbo Fitment
I am not sure who told you they were the same. You should check/ask for references next time you get advice from the internet. I have built a coulpe custom up-pipes for people to accomodate the newer turbo's.
