  1. Ouch, had the same thing happen on the wifes '93 Legacy "L" wagon. Drove it on the trailer, took it home and had it running one hour later. There were no bearings left at all when it started making so much noise she couldn't drive it any more. Sorry about the damage Skip. Good luck with the hybrid build though.
  2. All these points are reasonable. Not completely accurate but without knowing what he is doing with said vehicle all this means nothing. So, what vehicle are you installing this flywheel into? What will the primary use be? And for the record, all my vehicles have lighter flywheels. Including my big Brat. Never seemed to have any problems with the bottom end torque or pulling people's stuck butts out of the goo!
  3. The highlighted numbers are your fastest time. That doesn't neccessarily make it the 6th fastest. While it is a very respectable time if you check every score you will see what I mean. A little more seat time and you'll be a competitive player in your class. I was enjoying the cones way too much. They also did not show the final two passes my car made after Ken block and Jamie Thomas ran. 100 runs maybe but not 100 cars. It is probably one of Pauls largest turnouts.
  4. Mike, get a late model EA81 flywheel. '84 and up 4WD will do the trick. Can't swap the EA82 without doing the 5sp swap as the clutch disc has different splines and the pressure plate uses a different throw out bearing. Call me if you need any help. I do not know but I may have a flywheel. I'll check. If I don't Rob probably does. Ken
  5. Ken Block ran a 1:12 and hit 2 cones for a total of 1:16. Eric ran fastest time of the day with a 1:13 clean. I followed with a 1:14. The driver of the Leg GT is Charles. Great guy and better driver. He held fastest laps until the rally cars showed up. Bill Price ran the Audi @ WCSS8.
  6. Actually, there was one on my car. Eric blew one on the run he took with Pablo Eklund. We had it rebeaded in about two minutes and were ready to roll. BTW, that pic above is of me. Eric has an open faced burgandy helmet. I have a full faced silver one. Here's one of Eric taken from NASIOC.
  7. Erik, I got your PM and forgot to reply, Sorry! I am still up for it. I'll give you a call this weekend. Are you gonna come to Subyfest? If so, we can discuss things then as well. Ken
  8. Ditto, I had to ask him how he saw the tree we slid to a stop in front of(after the dust cleared). He says, "oh, I never saw it, I just knew we were off the trail."!!?!?!?! BTW, that was the insiration for my own XT6.
  9. The thing your missing is that TCU's can be fully progammable and made to do whatever the programmer wants. I prefer to shift on my own but the auto is just as good in straight 1/4 mle racing. The manual is better IMHO in rally or road track type racing.
  10. So, are you saying they are slow or fast? For the record, I don't run auto's. I will match my skill in shifting and driving against you any time. I hope you can handle second place!
  11. My first Subaru was an '84 wagon with blown headgaskets. The previous owner was told the engine was no good. I assumed their mechanic knew what he was talking about and replaced the motor. It blew smoke for 2 days of intermittent running until it started to clear up. Might be an intake gasket or the other side is also bad. I try to do both headgaskets when one goes bad.
  12. Maybe you can lend something besides your opinion to this arguement. 1/4 milers have been using the 2 sp powerglide trans for years to set records. How does that work if they are so slow?!? Auto's are programmed to shift at a set point everytime. They will never miss a shift. They will always shift when they are supposed to. Read this as shifting in the powerband and staying in the same powerband. I've been in and around racing all my life. So, you'll need to bring more than... they're just slow to the table.
  13. OK, then it's a clutch kit for a Legacy, 1990-94.
  14. I think you'll need a clutch that is not hydraulic. Does your car have a clutch cable or slave cylinder? If there is a cable you will need to use a 1990-94 Legacy clutch kit. If it has a slave cylinder you can use any Impreza WRX STi clutch for it. Your current clutch type will be the determining factor.
  15. NO! That is not why! Gearing, power to weight ratio's, aerodynamics... Besides, unless you know the owner of the civic it could have been swapped. Most swaps happen to civics(sleepers). Street racing is not only dangerous, it is flat out stupid. The fines and sentences have gotten so high and expensive that it usually isn't worth it.
  16. 2.2 flywheel and clutch or better, 1.8 will work but is lighter duty. plugs for the 2.2. O2 for the 1.8 as it will match the plug. And you will only need one I believe. I did this swap with my kids '93 L and he loves it. A little less mpg's but the increae in power is worth it he says.
  17. You can adjust the striker on the B-pillar. That should solve your problem unless the door is out of alignment. Do you see any rub marks around the door frame? If you do not see any marks then adjust the striker. Do not take the screws out of it though. Just loosen them enough to slide the striker around.
  18. Never had a problem getting them before. Where are you trying to find one? Do you have any driveline shops in your area? You could always go to the PaP in Oly and pull a couple of used ones.
  19. If you see Dave's car let him or the local law enforcement know. This is not the place to discuss half-baked idea's about getting him or beating, etc. This is the second time in as many days that I have had to state these same things. I don't want to do it again.
  20. Well, actually, the flywheel is the flywheel and the crank pulley is the crank pulley. I am sure you meant to say that the EA82 is externally balanced. But, what you neglected to mention is that they have a standard weight and removing material from the flywheel will not hurt anything as they are not matched sets, right?
  21. Word has it that the event will be held in the same corner the original NWR event was held in 2004. Pretty rough unless some work has been done there by the track prior to this. We'll see as I will be there. Chances are the Brat will be making another appearance as I don't want to wreck the Impreza. But, the skid plate should be strong enough to handle it. We'll see.
  22. Your response is accurate Scrap. SM reaction is as juvenile as I've seen in a while. He asked a question and I answered it. If you do not want an answer don't ask the question.
  23. The bolt pattern can be modified to work between both flywheels. The offset of the EJ is different. Exact dimensions I do not know. The XT6 flywheel in stock form will give you a savings of about 5 LBS. The stock EA flywheel can be lightened. A few people have been successful in doing so. I have a lightened EA82 flywheel(-7lbs) in the Brat and have never smoked a clutch in it. I run an XT6 clutch set in it too. Keep in mind that with a lighter flywheel you will lose some of the bottom end and drivability. There won't be as much momentum to keep the low rpm driving smooth. My suggestion is to stick with EA parts. They will perform to the level you need them.
