Yep ... the tire WAS supposed to act as a cushion if anyone braked or accelerated too fast, but that works MUCH better with a tow chain ... it actually started to cut into the strap and then when my friend jammed the breaks once too hard, it broke  good thing the breaks worked well enough for me to tie it back together or he would have been rolling backwards on the only really steep hill of the trip!

Help! My perfect dash is cracking
FlyB0y replied to FlyB0y's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I'm really not a fan of the carpet dash (I DO hear they go good with the "dingle balls" hanging from the headliner tho ) I wish they made one of these for a newer style brat http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/77-81-Subaru-Brat-Stage-II-Stand-NEW-Dash-Pad-Coverlay_W0QQitemZ8043105441QQcategoryZ40017QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem -
Help! My perfect dash is cracking
FlyB0y replied to FlyB0y's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Kewl, I actually have some of that ... I used it on my ZX-9R (before I sold it) I will have to digg it out of storage ... -
I have decided that I'm gonna put the jump seats back in my brat, and that means removing my tool boxes, and I wana do that so I can take more than just one passenger, like my Dad AND my Nephew, but I will still need to have some extra storage other than just behind the seat ... I wana get all the input I can, I am throwing around ideas like a "pipe rack" type frame in the back partly made with the high roll-bar, and maybe have some kind of cage-like boxes just inside that or on top ... some day I wana make a retractable canvas topper, so this rack has to be made so that it doesn't get in the way of my passenger's heads, yet isnt' going to get int the way of having the canvas topper ... just looking for brain-storm material ... any and all ideas welcome

wow! glad that no one was hurt! I like that induction scoop ... you make that yourself or was it transplanted from annother vehicle? Also love the push bar, and all things concidered, not too bad for a car that just rolled!

Hmmmmm ... I thought it was "rub it with crisco"? ... oh wait that was a joke :-p Thx for the tip! I just wish I knew that b4 it cracked down the middle:-\ are there any GOOD vinyl repair kits that really do match the color? -
I have seen the black plastic covers for an older brat on Ebay, but nothing for a new gen brat ... I'm not looking for carbon fiber or anything terribly fancy, just something that isn't prone to cracking like the original ... it just started to split down the middle ... it used to be perfect .. oh well

Oil Pressure drop at high RPM's?
FlyB0y replied to FlyB0y's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Well, I am in a much colder climate, and the Brat has a EA81, so I have been using 10W30 oil since it's still pretty cold this time of year. when it was staying around -20 DEG F for a week + I happened to need to change the oil so I had 5W30 for a bit ... then we got annother week of -10 or more and I'm gonna wait till it gets warmer, maybe I will use 15W30, because here the temp can go extreamly cold with no warning almost any time of year. -
Safe for one more year.

:eek::eek: WOW!! and I thought it was expensive to register a vehicle! ... But I guess I must admit it can be just as expensive here in Montana, that is if you have a newer vehicle, I cheat and get a perma plate for 2x the normal cost, and never pay again! Just have to have a vehicle 11 years old or older and for me, $120 is all I will ever have to pay  -
Hmmm not a bad idea, but only one is the PCV breather, the other is a blank with a plug in it ... I guess your right, I don't know why but I was thinking that was a exit, not a inlet for the PCV system ... maybe because it has a tendency to spit a little oil now and then

I woke up to 2" of snow and decided to take a trip to painted rocks (I had to see what it's like with all 4 cyl at 100% this time last time there I was on 3:-p) and see how much snow they had. Woo Hoo! they had some old snow refrozen but not ice ... turned out to be about 2 ft deep (seemed like only 4 - 6" at first) Well, I got to the lake, and then started checking out the parking area first, and I noticed it was like going up a ramp from the hwy ... and it was packed hard, so I thought no big deal, and I start to head to the boat ramp (the lake bed is dry this time of year) well, the "right way" to the boat ramp is too soft, so I go the wrong way (against traffic in the parking lot:burnout:) and it's a bit slippery, so I do the normal thing and try a power slide ... well it almost turned into a power dig but I goose it a bit and get going again and the stuff is getting soft again, but I can see old tire tracks so I know where the road is, and I'm going fine till I have to turn this time it DOES turn into a dig ... first my brat digs after trying to go forward and back a bit, then I dig out the brat (pics below):horse:yet, not all is lost, since NOW I can test out my winch/block & tackle set up (sorry didn't get pics of this in action ):burnout:well, long story short, I realized 2 major wrong that caused me to get stuck in the first place: #1 was still in FWD:banghead::dead:and #2 forgot to air-down tires .... once I pulled it out of the ruts, (including 2hrs of digging through sno-cone like hard snow) I was able to drive the rest of the way once I aired down to 10 psi P.S. I also managed to smash one of my fog lights digging out the front oh well ... can't be too expensive to replace ... see all the fun you missed Nels? :-p

click click click from rear of loyale?
FlyB0y replied to mbrickell's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Just take that marble out of the rear cargo compartment would ya? j/k! I wonder if it could be the in-tank fuel pump? just taking a total shot in the dark ... I understand that some fuel preasure is retained there for a few days of sitting even ... just a guess tho -
Looks nice! I wish I had tubing to build my bumper with earlier on, but that will come in time ... looks like a great design, can't wait to see some of the pics

Ok, here's the $60 up-grade to a K&N filter easily obtainable at Walmart. This mod only changed the ferncos (rubber boots) and added a piece of 6" PVC for the center ... so it will not require any mods to any other part of the snorkle

Can a 2wd Loyale be lifted?
FlyB0y replied to mbrickell's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
dang ... I guess we'll have to call him "ilesFox" from now on :-p -
Yes, this can indeed make the tranny pop out of first. I had the same problem, but only in low range and bumpy trails. I would just have them watch while you shift into 1st ... they should be able to see the tranny dance back and forth if that is the problem, and if your asking "if" the mounts are wore out, chances are they are ... good luck on that!

Cool, I will have to look into some if my hose proves too light-weight ... I am also now working in a K&N cone filter, my filter just has too small surface area.
