FlyB0y replied to snoutmeat's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
:slobber: wow! .... but geeze! that is more than most people pay for their brat to begin with .... Still if I had money to burn, I guess it would be pretty fun -

No problem ... here's more pics -
Don't quote me, but I have been told that the TSL's are tougher than the SSR's too, so if you do the TSL's and have them balance them with the equal powder instead of lead weights, I think you will be happiest ... I only let them use the powder now that I have tried it ... it's really great, no problem with flat spots un-ballancing the tire either

I just got this '78 brat about 4-5 days ago, and it has a freashly rebuilt hitachi, and he added an external fuel preasure regulator ... I don't see anything in my haynes or chilton manual about a regulator, and I was also curious if this is annother "Hit-tossy" carb like I had stock in my '85 brat ... I will just look for a weber if that is the case, and I am assuming that this is a EA-71 since it appears to be the size of one, but I have been told it has a JDM 1600 with 60k miles on it (no way for me to confirm this as yet) Anyhow, any advice apriciated

holley weber 2bbl ... anyone put one on a subie?
FlyB0y replied to FlyB0y's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
DOH!! thx for the info!! I don't want to get the same performance as a Hi-tossy ... maybe I will dink around with the one in it and see if I can get it to function ... last guy had it appart but I have no idea if it was even properly cleaned ... any particular kits or mods to make a Hi-tossy livable? I just junked the one on my '85 brat because it had more problems that it was worth, after re-building it I realized buying a DGV 32/36 was cheaper than chasing all the problems with the Hi-tossy -
holley weber 2bbl ... anyone put one on a subie?
FlyB0y replied to FlyB0y's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
yes, but then I could just go get a JY carb about the right size and J-B weld it to my manifold too ... but I'm looking for something with support and bolt-on ... I have a friend that tells me to just find an old pinto carb, but I like my 32/36 weber ... if I can have similar results with the holley weber as my 32/36, then I will buy one ... I don't need more "make it work" projects that's what my other brat is for -
I'm curious if anyone has had sucess finding adaptor plates and such for this carb (or am I just not realizing it's a DGAV 32/36 under a differant name?) I'm wanting to put one on a EA-81 ... here's the link to the site selling the carbs (from a previous post... and yes, I already searched for this info and haven't found this ) http://www.stoveboltengineco.com/acartpro/addprod.asp?productid=149

hmmmmm well if it's a EA-71, US or JD, wouldn't it have that stamp on the case? If it's just a stock EA-71 that's what I would expect, and I have no real use for one myself, but I was just curious since it's not stamped with "EA-71" like the ones I have seen in the JY ... anyhoo ... I will see if I can get it running and on the road for kicks, really got it expecting a project, but it was licensed and driven as recient as 2003, so who knows, one other question I have is ... was there ever a need or use of an external fuel preasure regulator? The last guy put one on and told me when he had it running that it would only do 20mph ... the carb has been gone through (not yet confirmed tho) and rebuilt, but I had tons of trouble with my own Hit-tossy carb, so I was just planning on one of the $65 rebuilt holly/webers .... any info would be much appricaiated thx! -

Hmmm lemme see if I have this right ... the JDM motor has a tube comming from the water pump that is external, in my cast it appears to have this external tube that feeds the base of the carburator at a "T" in the tube, that then continues to the heater core ... here are some pics of the engine + trans ... I took a close-up of the numbers stamped on the block it's hard to make out the "NO" at the begining but the rest are pretty clear -
I'll take a look next thurs when I am at the yard ... not sure how many EA-82T's are there, but there are something like 100+ cars in the 'ru section, might find one

*Kiwi accent* "HEy! is that your Brumby?"
FlyB0y replied to FlyB0y's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I've got it!! I'll get something made that says "MPV Brute" I think "Brute" sounds best of all -

hmmm wow I must have some freaky weird motor then ... I will post pics tomarrow ... the guy I got it from (second owner) thought it was a 1800, but it has the dimensions of a smaller motor than the EA-81, I'm really guessing EA-71 .. but I guess it could be something else ... either way I plan on replacing it with a EA-81 + D/R 5spd -
LOL!! naw ... I just wear a tin-foil hat when I wana talk to little green men from Mars (ok ... ok ... I live in a Red-Neck little town ... those dishes are from the 70's and no one has bothered to take them down yet) We had no real problems towing, just in the last mile I think I screwed up and let too much slack in the tow-strap and one last "YANK!!" and it broke ... I was mostly worried because we were on a steep hill and didn't know how good the breaks were on the '78 ... he had to hold the breaks with his foot till I blocked them with some tires from the bed

doh! maybe I am just looking in the wrong place then hehe ... isn't it on the pass-side front of the engine near the base of that head? (about the same place as on the EA-81?) -

Ok ... I cleaned up the head a little and where I would normally see "EA-71" the head is smooth, and a little more to the center of the engie, I see a raised section with "NO 25610M" on there ... the "M" is weird tho it is right against a braket of some kind and it's actually a differant kinda character than a "M" it has a lower top the the right side of the "M" I'll take a pic tomarrow too dark now tonight -
nice score on the Brat! (I guess this is the week-end for brats ) I called up John (Mudrat79) and told him about the '78 brat I was towing and he happened to be towing home a '81 at the same time his has the EA81 with D/R tranny, but I bet he has more rust in his than me :-p hopefully he will have some pics up soon. My boss still doesn't know about the new brat, but he did say I can have one non-runner at a time, so I'm still ok, and just a carb away from having the '78 running

LOL!!! I like that! I was thinking you had some kinda fancy tonneau cover or something :-p and no worries on the push-bar, I'm not looking to soak anyone, just wonder what they are going for, I guess if you're not sure I will do some research on what they have gone for in the past, and then give you that price ... and go from there
