  1. Just curious if you might have the same problem with your tranny as me ... I have mine pop out of gear when I'm really trying to wring-out the motor if I am in four low, and it turns out it's JUST (I say "just" ly ) the tranny mounts ... I was feeling pretty dumb once Nels figured that out for me watching my tranny do the side to side mombo when I put it into 4 low especially since I was already told that this needed to be done, I am just not sure that $80 each mount is worth it for new ... I just need to get a hand from the guys at my fav JY and have them put one of the subie's on the front-end loader so I can get to some ... and then I have to put them DOH!
  2. there are some toyota lug bolts that are about 3/8 - 1/2" longer, but good luck finding spacers for 4 x 140mm bolt pattern (at least in the US)
  3. hmmm ... I'm guessing that is a "yes"? that your creation 75subie? looks like a really good idea
  4. wow ... I used to LIVE about 20 min from Hoodriver ... I will put it on my calender and hope my (new) boss will let me go ... I have 4 good leads on new jobs, so wish me luck
  5. NOOOOOOO!!! that's unbelievable!! How did it turn out? did he sue the pants off the crushers? I know I would do everything I could to get it replaced ... man that's just crazy
  6. Your going to find this hard to believe, but an '88 FWD justy was my first Subaru It had only 45,000 orginal miles (yes I car-faxed it)I traded a dirt bike and $1000 cash for it, I had a full-size chevy at the time and needed something good on mileage. Mine had that funky computer metered cab, but it got about 37MPG all around with lots of stop-n-go in Olympia, WA. I only got that bad of mileage because it was so FUN to stomp on it ... I also had a 2001 Kawasaki ZX-9 Ninja at the time, so I knew what power was too. I have to say the car was incredible! I had in the past briefly owned a Suzuki Swift, and the justy was definately more stable and just as pepy. If your really into a good MPG car, I don't think you can beat a Justy ... they are NOT geos ... they do NOT get bogged down on hills ... go drive one, then tell us what you think then. The only reason I don't have the justy now is because I took a vow of poverty (read moved to Hamilton Montana :-p ) and I needed cash to buy the primo brat I own now ... too bad I sold the ZX-9 in the winter for guns, I could have waited till the spring and got twice what I let it go for ... oh well, I did get some really nice rifles/glass If I see a good deal on annother justy and have the money in the future I will definatly buy one ... oh and yes the brat (yes even stock with 13's) was always a dog in comaparason to the Justy's accelaration
  7. Kewl! thx fangster which hatch in the pics was this post about? the blue one? I kinda like the green wagon myself
  8. what kinda vehicle exactly? I have a brat and I hear it can't (except maxing the adjustments on the struts) but I hear that some of the wagons and maybe the hatches too have separate top mounts for the struts that would give you more in the back

    Play Time!!

OMG!! it's snowing again AND my car isn't broke AND it's only 7 pm!! time to try some snow/mud at como lake
  11. DOH!! none of those links work for me ... the first one says the pics are gone and the second just doesn't work
  12. What about those NOS fogging systems that some how attach to an air box and are designed for a snowmobile? I don't remember what thread that was on ... I know a guy down the street that is a snowmobile nut ... I bet he could tell me what I need to make one work ... and I don't know anything about these, but I think someone said they were not as hard on the engine as a direct injection of NOS? (just curious)
  13. Yeah, I bet ... but now that I have some Less major positive camber, I THINK I shouldn't be seeing any grease any time soon :-p
  14. I finally got to the alignment shop, had them tell me it was screwed, but they were willing to move the strut tower lift blocks to get rid of some of the positive camber on the front pass side, and the weird thing is after moving things inward about an inch, he said according to his machine, we really gained next to nothing ... however, I can look at it just be eye-ball, and see that it's vastly improved, infact, it has less positive camber now than the drivers side! Now I just need to take a hammer to the driver's side and match it I just hope that the new place I'm taking it too will be much better with the alignment ... I can't imagine why his machine showed no differance after moving the strut tower inboard nearly an inch ... at least now I can drive it not worrying about turning the bearings into gravel in 2 mon
  15. Ty for the offer, but I like being able to see the grease start to come out and tell me it's time for new bearings I was just curious
  16. I'd like to see the design of some of these snorkels on rally cars ... any good links for some pics?
  17. Man ... I wana go but I can't get away from work untill near the end of Feb ... I have many concerns about this subject too ... I'm with Tailgatewagon ... not many places left in my area of montana either ... I know there are places people still go, but these aren't really legal ones ... It was quite a shock to me the first time I asked the local forest service ranger about where the full size vehicle OHV roads/trails were and first he looked at me puzzled and said " ... well I don't know why anyone would want to take a full sized vehicle off road ..." I think it was actually the first time he had even heard that anyone would ... we still have some lake beds that dry-up a bit in the off season (state land) but I want trails, not just a mud pit ... I will be there in spirit as well, and if there is any kind of way we can make our voice heard as a group in other ways let me know ... I would sign a pettition or join a group .. isn't there a national organization we can support that will lobby lawmakers for this cause?
  18. Ok, here is a link to an ad showing how a Safari snorkel keeps rain out ... it's pretty neat since I was bouncing the idea around in my head as to how I would accomplish this, and it looks like that is the very same way it is done by Safari http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.4x4connection.com/images/snorkel2.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.4x4connection.com/tech/snorkeltech.htm&h=338&w=332&sz=14&tbnid=91rjQKif579YOM:&tbnh=115&tbnw=112&hl=en&start=2&prev=/images%3Fq%3D4x4%2Bsnorkel%26svnum%3D10%26hl%3Den%26lr%3D
  19. Ok, I taped the top bolt hole of my break caliper because the last person cross-threaded it ... I can't get a new bolt through the damaged area by hand, and I have ran that tap through front and back, blown out any shavings with air and used oil to lubricate in the hole like 100 times! The tap EASILY goes in and out by hand (just the tap, no handle needed) What am I missing?
  20. OOOOOooooooohhhhhhhhh-YEEEEEEEEEEeeeeaaaaaaaaaahhhhh (Any other Glenn Beck fans here? ) And yes that was a very *white* "oh-yeah" :-p I can't tell you how happy I am now that I can go into ANY tire store and actually find wheels in a catelogue if not in stock and even better most any JY will have wheels to fit too! I goto my fav JY so much they gave me a free "Yard Rat" sticker to put in my window (It's really kewl ... it has this scruffy looking rat with a tool box ... I'll see if I can get the pic from the web or I'll take a pic)
  21. I only did a quick (as in 20 - 25 min per wheel) but thorough wire wheel to remove the old yellow (yuck!) paint and minor surface rust, quick dry self-etching primer and 10 min set engine paint (one wheel was fresh paint and dried to handle on the way down to the tire shop! ) but I didn't have any problems at all with them bolting right up! Once I get my LOOOOOOOONG over-due alignment tomarrow, I shouldn't eat any more wheel bearings and I will actually spend more time driving than fixing/modding When you say $50 for wheels, you mean for 5? and did you have all 5 of them painted for just $50? pretty good price I would say ... I was just in a time crunch at the time and I wanted to drive ... THEN I went 4 - 5 miles and my bearings turned to gravel P.S. ... do you have the center caps? I don't see anywhere on my hubs that a small center hole (unless it was close to the size of the 36mm axle nut :-p ) would be an issue ... *edit* ok, now that I look closer, I do see where a small center hole would be an issue .. I have about 1/8 inch gap between the four little doggs there in the center and the center hole of the rim ... no idea if these are stock rims, but they do have a 3.75 off-set
  22. *me wishes he had as many thoughs in his head as fishum's post:drunk: * I LOVE brats ... can't explain exactly why, but even as a kid I thought they were just fun looking ... I will have to get an '81 or something too tho ... I like the round head-lights better than my squares .. that is my only complaint with the gen2 brats ... too plain on the front end ... that's part of the reason I dressed it up with my deer guard and shark teeth ... now I just have to get back to finishing the light covers that look like angry eyes
  23. Yay! I'm not a nerd! I get crap all the time about all the spares/tools/fluids I have in the tool boxes/in bed of my brat ... I just make it sound like I want to have the extra weight in the back for tracktion
  24. Yeah and the guy at the car lot says it's $3000 (to buy one ... but you'd be lucky to get $50 trade-in ) *car salesman* " Tell you what, we can just take that old car off your hands for free ... no need to pay a JY ..." *car salesman* I had pretty good luck in the past with insurance settlements with my motorcycle, but I did have trouble with older cars (the only ones I really want anyway) good luck to ya, and keep up the good work! I once worked for a armored car company for a short while, and the Ins companies had more cash (usually in the form of checks) to send to the Federal Reserve vaults than most banks! They definatly do very well at our expense most of the time.
  25. Sorry, no pics ... the old bearings are gone already But what I can tell you is when I took it appart, the actual bearing retainers (cages?) were gone and I could actually SEE between the inner and outer races of the outer bearing and it was missing half of the bearings Well, the old bearings were OEM ... and I just remembered that the first indication of a problem was a day after I toasted the CV, I noticed extra play in the same wheel, pulled over and re-torqued the axle ... it was loose :-\ ... I imagine this was because the bearings were starting to dissintigrate but not making any noise yet ... I think if I get it re-aligned after putting it all back together it will make a big differance, because before I discovered the struts being so far out of adjustment, the camber was off pretty bad on that side ever since the lift instalation in Sept. Is that a safe guess?
