  1. Thanks for keeping me on the "straight and narrow" Tim, I was mis-informed, I got the impression that an EJ-22 would be extreamly hard on the CV's and such, nd I just got off the phone with John, so it sounds like if I drive like a maniac (Free-Range :-p ) I WILL twist them off, but not just by using an EJ ... gonna have to put in the phantom locker at the same time tho, or just remember to watch my take-offs (yeah right! ) untill I do in the mean-time I might just run some slightly smaller tires (or just stay on-road till the swap ... )... anyone have some cheap used Khumo Venture MT's for sale? :-p
  2. good question! all he says on his site is "I had it up to 80 MPH"!!!
  3. Heya all you built EA81 guys, I'm looking for one or both of these things: 4.44 gear swap (yeah who doesn't right? IF it works :-p ) and/or built EA81 that is strong enough to turn 28's with np, but doesn't eat CV's/stub axles like crazy ... since the 4.44 conversion has yet to be proven possible, I'm left with either the EJ22 swap or building the EA81, I was pretty set on the EJ till I realized how easily I will be eating CV's stub axles, etc. Is a hopped up but not totally maxed out EA81 realistic? If so, how was it done?
  4. Kewl, thx for the info, now I guess I will just look on ebay for the cable ... oh and I am using recievers also, I have a rear bumper that is made from a 1" reciver, and I plan on making a tunnel for the front too, and mount the winch to a plate that is in turn welded to a 1" tongue. hey Rollie ... any info on that 'yota club member that deals in the synth cable? I might see if I can order some up soon so I can put it on my winch soon as it arrives next week well, off to work I go! After this job I am going to TURN OFF MY PHONE and head to painted rocks and do some exploring ... I have been waiting for MONTHS to check this place out ... too bad I don't have someone to run with ... I'm always carefull to check an obstacle on foot first, but atm all I have is a 1 ton come-along .... gonna keep my eye out for a block and tackle ... I think I just might use one of those with the winch if I can figure out an easy way to join the 2 cables
  5. Yeah ... I like wenches too ... ... oh wait you said "winches" :-p (sorry I'm tired lol) damn work! I should be out on some trails tomarrow and I have to work for a few hours starting at 930 ... better get some sleep I guess ... thx again all! (Hopefully some info on the synthetic line will be waiting when I get up just before work  )
  6. hmm so then it sounds like I shouldn't be using more than one at a time, if I can't be sure of the strength of the cable ... anyone using synthetic cable? I have heard of special non-metal synthetics that are supposed to be much stronger and lighter ...
  7. Now here's a question, if I rig-up 2 at a time, will that again raise the pulling strength?
  8. Ouch! well thanks for the warning!! maybe I will just limit any purchaces to when I am near a store.
  9. Nice, I wish I had a HF where I live ... I used to in Olympa, WA ... the one I already won on ebay has gotta be this one http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?function=Search I was so ticked!! I was the only bidder @ $5 for the longest time till some snipers showed up and now I have to kick myself for not checking how cheap HF shipping is ... with the shipping I bought my used winch for $30, but with the shipping, it's $55, the HF one new is $58 with shipping! guess I will have to see what those blocks go for, thanks! I couldn't seem to find any on ebay when I looked, now I better watch-out for snipers and/or high shipping.
  10. Which one of the HF winches is this one? I don't see any rated anywhere near 8k near this price in my HF catalog ..
  11. Lots of great info, thanks to all
  12. Hmmmm I looked at snatch blocks at Quality Supply, and they cost as much as my winch hehe I'm not sure if that is a good thing or not, but I wonder if anyone has seen a better deal than $49 for one? Also, I don't have the winch yet, should be delivered this next thurs. will there be ratings on the break strength of the cable? all I know is that it's listed as "aircraft cable" and that it's 5/32
  13. Man, I know you said you don't wana do the EJ-22 swap, but man ... I just can't see why not, hmmm $6-$8,000 for a RAM built EA-81, with 140hp & torque, OR 137hp & torque from a stock oem engine that you can get at a JY with low miles, or even from a donor car for about $200 - $500???!??? I know what I am putting in MY brat
  14. Ok, I'm not going to get into how big a winch I need, I have decided for now to go with the minimalists, and use the 2000lb Harbor freight (mile marker) light-weight:D ... now all I wana know is of those of you who use that size winch, do you find that you need a snatch-block too? if so what kind? all that I have seen are alomost as much as the wench I bought! any and all info welcome
  15. that's a Colorado Junkyard?! Man ... where I'm sittin' that's more like Heaven! Oh wait ... lemme guess is that "junkyard" where all the solid axle rigs are that tried to follow your 'ru? (awwww c'mon it's just a JOKE ) I need to visit Colorado soon! (LOLOLOLOL!!! I love this new icon ... it doesn't make any sense to use it here, I just think it's kewl!! )
  16. I'm curious to learn more about this 5-lug conversion ... is it a retrofit from a newer , say legacy, or? And can this same 5-lug conversion work for a EA-81? Specificly a '85 brat or Hatch of the same vintage?
  17. gotta see this thing to believe!! (hope someone didn't already post this :-p ) http://www.stiatv.co.nz/
  18. http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/Displayitem.taf?itemnumber=92860 Harbor freight is selling this winch at $49.99 + $8.99 shipping that's $20 less than normal price, and I'm guessing it's like the 3000lb winch in that it's ths same winch that Milemarker puts their badge on, and the only differance is the price, and it will say "Chicago Electric" on it instead
  19. Man, the hatch is the best for an off-road lifted ride, it has the short wheel base and you can get seats and dash boards pretty easy, but no WAY would I pay $400 for a carb ... there was just some post about rebuilt webers for $65 ... I got mine from Edrach on this board ... all I had to do was buy a kit, an adaptor plate and just goto carbsunlimited.com for the stuff your local parts store most likely won't even know that carb exsists! ... the only quark of these carbs that I have found is that they don't deal well with the ethenol in the gas too well, just replaced a powervalve that was only 6 mons old, but nothing major, you should be into a weber for less than $100 for everything .. trust me ... you WON'T regret that ... and get yourself a lift, super swampers and a LSD rear end and have some real fun
  20. Man ... that car is way too nice ...errrr I mean it MUST be junk ... just sell it to me cheap! J/K!! :-p The EA81 is pretty bullet proof, I would say there is a problem with the carb tho, it's an Hitachi!! I fought with my Hitachi for a month or so, cleaning it (I'm an ex motorcycle mechanic so I really mean clean ), replacing idle solenoids, and I finnally realized for all the trouble I was going through, I could be ahead in time and money by getting a weber. What a difference!! I got more power AND mileage! I would look into that booster tho, I haven't had that problem myself, but I'd trust these guys they know their stuff! btw ... what year and model car? more pics! lets see the rest of this clean car!
  21. Any ETA on them? I'm dying to see pics!!
  22. Looks nice!! I wonder tho, it must be RWD or something, could you get away with such smaller front tires if it was 4WD?
  23. WOOOOOT!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now I have something in common with the cops in the Loraina Bobit case!! "I FOUND IT!!" (In my case, the electrical problem, in their case the Mr. Bobbit's "missing" Mr. Happy!! ) Your never gonna believe this, but I found that the left high beam ground (on the light side) of the hella high-beam lense was some how closing the circuit for the low beam. (I had noticed this at the begining but it didn't sink in:rolleyes: ) I then removed the hella light and discovered that the outside had corrodid, and with my Ohm meter that the outside of the light was connecting to the ground, thus completing the cuircut and turning them on as if I had flipped the switch! Now I guess I need an old innner-tube or something to isolate the outside of the light ... but the light gets pretty hot ... grrrr!!! well at least nothing else was burned or damaged (I HOPE )
  24. I'm trying to trace the short I have, and was wondering if anyone knows where I can find this on the 'net?
  25. ** UP - DATE ** New headlight relays, no change .... guess it's back to the orginal plan ...
