  1. The Nissan wheels are 6" wide, these skind steer tires are normally on 7" wide rims, and the weight of the 6 ply is little more than my ATV tires at 26.7 lbs. As for their performance, I haven't a clue.
  2. http://sandsports.off-road.com/dunes/article/articleDetail.jsp?id=446540 Not sure if the price will justify them, but they look really good! Gonna call these guys in the morning and see what the damage would be for a set.
  3. I would talk to Sweet82 if you want to go the 12" wheel route, but as he has said it's neither cheap or easy. He runs 8.5" wide custom made wheels, and the biggest baddest 6 ply 12" dirtdevil tires he could find that are 12" wide. You might look into some 14" AG tires, I just got a new catalog from Carlisle and there are even 15" AG tires, along with some 14" ATV tires, I highly recommend the 14" route with nissal 2x4 wheels, the off-set is ideal for minimal fender trimming/wheel well bashing if you stay with a 26" tire, and you will keep most of your low range pleanty for that EA81 to handle. There is also a Skid Steer tire they make called Trac Chief that is 23 or 25 x 8.50 - 14 that has a very high load capacity rating and 4-6 ply that would also suite your needs. Found some of the 14" for $46! looks like a deal. http://www.nebraskatire.com/industrial.htm
  4. I'll be doing that same trek soon, but while I am still in montana (moving to OR at the end of the mon.) I am available. 406-370-8223 Dayn
  5. LOL! ya ... I progressed to a new project. :-p I don't know if I will get any time soon to do this, building a trailer and moving first. I will have to think about how I will modify either the canvas or just remove my rollbar lights while it's on.
  6. What would you suggest as for proper reinforcement? Would just a 3/4" plywood deck do it, or would I need to add some more steel ribs?
  7. Thx! What tires/size are you running and at what pressure? Are you just crawling these things or hitting them at speed?
  8. Mounted on the 14x6" nissan 2x4 wheels (same width as the atv rims they are designed for) the tires are 8.5" wide. I found out today at like 10am late start lol .. that I could go on the forest service roads after all on durring stage II restrictions! So I found out there is a "primative" road called the Lolo Motorway that is part of the original trail Lewis & Clarke took through Idaho & Montana (only about 30 miles away from me!) that is a recommended "off road" trail, still officially a open forest service road so after attaching my new fire extinguisher, away I went! Here are some pics! Overgrown road, but no sign of road 500. http://memimage.cardomain.net/member_images/9/web/2289000-2289999/2289861_24_full.jpg Well, nothing spectacular to drive on, but lets try those new tires! http://memimage.cardomain.net/member_images/9/web/2289000-2289999/2289861_25_full.jpg http://memimage.cardomain.net/member_images/9/web/2289000-2289999/2289861_26_full.jpg http://memimage.cardomain.net/member_images/9/web/2289000-2289999/2289861_27_full.jpg http://memimage.cardomain.net/member_images/9/web/2289000-2289999/2289861_28_full.jpg http://memimage.cardomain.net/member_images/9/web/2289000-2289999/2289861_29_full.jpg http://memimage.cardomain.net/member_images/9/web/2289000-2289999/2289861_30_full.jpg http://memimage.cardomain.net/member_images/9/web/2289000-2289999/2289861_31_full.jpg SO .. who's got WHO trained?! http://memimage.cardomain.net/member_images/9/web/2289000-2289999/2289861_32_full.jpg I had no problems with the tires, running them at 19 PSI which is 1.5x the recommended pressure for the larger ATV's that run these tires (reg is 13 PSI for a 1100lb side by side ATV) I gotta say, maybe the ATV guys/gals already know this, but man! the ride is so smooth with these! The tires take up the shock from the rocks and the washboard, logs and ditches!
  9. Ok, I have no experiance with this, so I am looking for advice. I would like to use my brat to haul a smaller trailer, I am thinking it should be safe with a 1,500lb max total weight (trailer + load) on a 2,000lb rated hitch attached to my rear bumper/reciever which is attached at both the rear bumper mounts, and the rear tie-down loops (or what ever you call them) that were used to ship the car to the USA. I also have an opportunity to get a old tent trailer shell and use it's frame to make the proposed trailer. I would prefer a converted nissan or toyota longbed, since the axles would have the same six lugg wheels I use on the brat. Is this project doable? If I go the tent trailer route, I was thinking of discarding everything but the metal frame that the tent trailer sits on, and attaching slots for stake sides. What do you think? Thanks in advance! Dayn
  10. http://memimage.cardomain.net/member_images/9/web/2289000-2289999/2289861_22_full.jpg http://memimage.cardomain.net/member_images/9/web/2289000-2289999/2289861_23_full.jpg I GOT THE TIRES!!:burnout: :Flame: Here are some pics! Hopefully I will actually be able to USE them tomarrow . Fire danger is still high, so I dunno if I will have a chance to use them on much more than a gravel road, but here they are on the tire rack I built to hold them using the tailgate studs.
  11. Well, count your blessings! At least they don't burn (and get areas closed to wheel'n) It was supposed to rain tonight, and so far all we got was a measly sprinkle .. good for me since I painted my rims, but bad for the ppl who's homes might yet burn up!
  12. Nice topper! Looks good Backwoods! And I too like the "roof rack" over the bed of the brat on that other one. Anyone know if those toppers fit over high-bar rollbars? (sans lights of course:-p)
  13. Good-bye Kenda, hello ITP ... ITP is making tires to be used on similar vehicles as the HD Bounty Hunters. I will be trying out the Terra Cross tires, they should be in on friday, I might have to make a little road trip to Idaho to get any real trail riding in, unless by some miracle we have a rain storm and the fire restrictions allow use of more of the forest.
  14. ROFLOL!! My timming absolutly sucks. I just got off the phone with the Kenda USA rep, and guess what. They just decided reciently to temporarly discontinue the Bounty Hunter HD in the 14" size because they made their tires 10" wide front and 12" rear, they will be retooling to make them more standard as most 14" atv tires are 9" wide front and 11" rear. I'm so beside myself I don't know weather to laugh or cry! So I'll just laugh I guess. Now I really am searching for a "holy grail" ... 4 front tires somewhere in the USA.
  15. Yeah no kidding! The worst part is the guy who ordered them for me is the owner of the shop! I was trying to be nice and give these guys my business since they have been the most helpfull (even tho now they are almost 1 hr away from where I live) and I was there helping a friend move. Now I am just going to do what ever it takes to get them in a resonable time and for a resonable price. I know that polaris has them as stock tires for some of their ATV's (the newer 2 seat hunting rigs that are big enough they aren't even allowed on the ATV only trails ) I really don't care if it comes from a Polaris Warehouse or where ever. The worst part about it was when the parts guy just seemed to look at me bewildered and told me something along the lines of "there's nothing I can do ...". I have looked at several online distributors but none of them list the 14" HD's only the regular 14". I am hoping either one of them or a Polaris dealer can get some for me in the near future. Also if any of you know a good "rain dance" we could really use it here:-p. Getting tired of all the smoke and level 2 fire restrictions. Right now you can't even go on most forest service roads because of the fire danger.
  16. :banghead: Ok, you get the picture! Not happy ... went into the motorcycle shop today that said they would have my Kendas today or tomarrow (ordered last thursday or friday) and now they are telling me their suppliers are out and the ETA is August 28th?!!? I should be half way to Oregon by then . Oh well, tomarrow I will talk to all the tire dealers I can get ahold of and I will hopefully find a set in the US. Wouldn't be such a big deal to me if I wasn't moving so soon. If anyone has an idea on who would be a good online Kenda ATV tire supplier plz lemme know.
  17. I gotta say I agree with the "You Built It" part! It's much like how harleys are now the choice of doctors and lawyers. I still remember when you HAD to have saddle baggs for your harley for tools and USE them to keep them properly maintained. Now all a harley says to me is "I have a FAT wallet and like to be a Poser:rolleyes:" ( that's for the NEW ones that take $20k+ to buy, I still respect the old school harley riders:cool:) Same goes for the Yuppie thats going through his "mid-life crisis" and buys a Hummer or a Fararri. Those guys get some looks, but no one stops and asks things like: "Wow, did you lift that yourself?" or "Have you used that snorkel in really deep water yet?" or "Man! that is the nicest brat I have seen in a long time!" Yes, I am an individualist, and I like being different. I also used to be a motorcycle mechanic, and I just don't like driving anything I can't mainly fix/diagnose myself. That, and I just love showing the ppl that think it can't be done that I can and am doing it!
  18. Nice Brat! Got a little "Starski & Hutch" graphic on the side eh? looks good! how many miles on it?
  19. Gratz on the Brat! Do you have a lift-kit in it's near future? :Flame:zzz I'm also guessing clutch cable, and if it's the short one opposed to the longer one it may need, maybe that is why you can't push it in that far? And if it's too short, not allowing the clutch to be completly disengauged, that would explain it being difficult going into the gears and griding while going into 3rd.

    U-joint Axles?

Ok, I looked and looked, and couldn't find any threads on this subject, but If I understand correctly, it should be possible to build spindles and a custom axle that you could fit with U-joints to replace the CV axles. I know that they make these for a Ford bronco, and a friend of mine switched because he was tired of the sage brush tearing appart his CV boots. I'm not really expecting any readymade axles like these, just wondering if anyone has done this here or knows of someone who has? The idea isn't that the u-joints are any stronger, just easier to replace and not being susceptable to a torn boot from brush ruining an axle.
  21. The first tires I ever tried were the 27" cooper discoverer b4 they were discontinued, that was the closest to a tire I was happy with both on and off road. Had to replace them and I tried the swampers next, not happy with the gearing loss, rough ride on the highway and the wear on the highway. I decided after that I wanted no taller than the closest I could get to 26" and instead of compromising either on or off-road performance, I would rather have a set for each.
  22. w00t! ok the winning bidder called me tonight, sounds like a real nice guy, he's a bit of a collector, has a well maintained RX-7 and will be driving up from San Antonio this week end with his wife in their '04 WRX. Kenda Bountyhunters here I come
  23. Yes, 7 days for full payment, but 48 hours to make a payment of $500. If they are really a serious buyer they will at least contact me tonight. If not, I will assume they are having trouble justifying the price of shipping or what not, and will make an offer to the runner up. I have no problem waiting if someone contacts me, but they haven't contacted me at all, and given their lack of a history with ebay, for all I know this is some impulse buyer that can't really afford this purchase.
