  1. are Loyale bodies galvanized? I don't see rust on Loyales very often.... if they are, I think it would be a good idea to convert one to d/r cuz I hate rust and single range 4wd. thanks for the information.
  2. i'll get the manual later and look into it more closely
  3. why is it in the manual it mentions a 4 wheel lock option? shows it as a knob in the middle console. Never seen it.... maybe just an option in Japan or something?? It's an 87 GL with original manual.
  4. mine jumps up to 2000+ and then when i kick it again, it just dies. I have to hold the gas pedal a little to keep it at 1000, and i have to let it warm up or it will die at stop signs the first 1/8 of a mile or so. I have a feeling it will get worse with colder weather, does anybody know what it could be? I have a feeling it's some kinda spring to the choke or something. Thanks to anybody who has a solution. Should I have done a search before I asked this ???
  5. heard a bunch of new squeaks this morning!!! I guess it's about time for new shocks and struts, some bushings, and a lift kit
  6. check the oil level. if it's not low, and you're not hearing any knocking coming from your engine, then it's not a big deal.
  7. okay, my friend tells me he found this gravel road behind a warehouse that I should drive my car on really fast cuz there was a whole lotta puddles... and my car needs washed, lol. So, we find this place, I drive down it slowly and realize the holes are alot deeper than they look and would probably launch my car into the air if I hit them at more than 30mph . Guess what! I hit the first couple holes... got COMPLETELY airborn... hit the next set of holes so hard my car flat out bounced about 2 feet in the air, and splashed down in a 20 foot long 8 inch deep puddle that slowed us from 50-0 in about 2 seconds... lol. AWESOME. Shear adrenaline. Ok, I thought I was done. Well, here's what he says. "Hey, take a left at this car wash, go really fast." Ok, I go fast. Hit some train tracks at about 45, leave the ground... and he just tells me to keep going. The road turns right, but straight ahead it just turns to gravel so I go gravel. The road humps sharply... then back down. Guess what my car does!! It goes way up in the air!!!! I'm not even joking, we got a good 4-5 feet off the ground... I paniced and just slid completely sideways to a stop. It was the scariest thing I have ever experienced. Man, that car can take some damn abuse. Finally, to top the night off, we decide to drive through a random field behind Ingles. got almost to the other side which ends at the highway, and we got stuck. Great. I learned something important that night... never offroad without a flashlight. The car was stuck in 2 ruts, perfectly lined up with the front and rear wheels running horizontally to the lengh of the car. Took us an hour and 4 rocks to get unstuck... but we did it. Now the car is gonna rest a while... hopefully I'll be able to send you guys some pics the next time I'm up to some more bajaing.
  8. wow guys, thanks for the replies. there's not anymore noise if it's in 4 wheel drive or if it's in 2 wheel drive. i got 4 wheel bearings, but i never feel like putting them in, lol.
  9. does the rear u-joint do anything when the car is in motion and not in 4wd? I hear a deep rumble at highway speeds and wondered if it was my rear u-joint, but i didn't think it would be moving if not in 4wd, but i'm not sure. any info would be very appreciated. thanks.
  10. what's the point of having an uninflated spare tire? lol. Maybe you could fit a very bald tire back there? run your tires bald and have one of them put in the bay to see if it fits.
  11. alright.... for some reason i was under the impression that Subarus never got particularly good gas mileage. I guess I'm a little impressed considering my first one only got about 20 mpg.
  12. does anybody know if a dying fuel pump can temporarily raise your gas mileage? mine's very good on gas but from what i hear from everybody else, subarus aren't that great on gas.
  13. naww... all the tires are worn the same. i've checked the linkage, it's fairly clean... how do I adjust it?
  14. my 4wd only works in low, but it will sometimes go into high if you jerk the lever really hard. did i break some kinda linkage?
  15. that is the finest piece of machinery i've seen all day, and I work at a Dodge dealership and I see plenty of Vipers.
  16. hmmm..... my solution to everything is to check the diff fluid, lol. I really can't think of what it could be... just thought I'd post so somebody might see it. Jordan
  17. I was headed to work one day with 6 gallons of oil in the back in a garbage bag to recycle at work. I pull into a grocery store to buy a gatorade. Back out of the parking space... and as soon as I stop it feels like somebody shoves the back of my car and it "waddles". Pull up to the main road, does it again, this time it does it AFTER I have already come to a complete stop. Ok, now I'm scared. Maybe it's an earthquake? Start driving down the road, starts doing it again while I'm moving. I pull into a neighborhood and check all 4 tires, the underside of the car, and the back. In the back, there was a gallon of oil that look like it had just spilled because the puddle was very small. I don't think it was from the shaking because the shaking wasn't THAT bad... just very very obvious. The freakiest thing is... it didn't do it AT ALL for the rest of the 7 miles to work. As a matter of fact, it hasn't done it or anything similar to it since. WIERD.
  18. could be a fuel pump. Mine did that until I put a new fuel pump in it and MAN... that's where all those horses went, they were hiding in all that crap jammed in the pump!! lol. Have you checked your choke?
  19. I pulled the knob to open the hood, and apparently the cable broke off of wherever it was connected and now I can't get under the hood... how do I open it without doing any damage? Jordan
  20. I was just checking out the new generation forum and saw you just joined. I drive an older Soob, the one in my sig... but someday I'm gonna move up to either the Forester or the Outback. Have fun with your Soob. They're freakin awesome, lol.
  21. I don't know why the A/C wouldn't work... but that does make sense that the switch would be at fault if the A/C compressor itself isn't. And I dunno why he said Volkswagon Boxer.... I believe the only Volkswagons to use boxers are the really old ones. But anyway..... every Subaru has a boxer engine. instead of the pistons going straight up and down or in a V shape like traditional motors... the pistons go straight out to the sides, 2 on each side, cutting the length of the camshaft in half, lowering the center of gravity, increasing heat displacement, and making for easier mantainance. I take it it's fuel injected because you mentioned your injectors were new. I have an '87 and it's carbed. Wish it was fuel injected though... better gas mileage and more power. Is yours a 5 speed with D/R 4WD? The 4WD really comes in handy. Having 4WD low in a small car like that really kicks some major @$$, lol. Sounds like you got a great deal, having all that new stuff. And the cheapest performance mod I can think of would be a K&N air filter or maybe some headers with a high flow cat and bigger exhaust. Jordan
  22. yeah..... that's not too far. As soon as I get everything fixed and I have some time off of work, which is the once a year one week unpaid vacation deal, I'll head over there and check it out. How long are those roads?
  23. right now i'm getting 25.7 mpg in mixed driving conditions, mostly around town... I'll use engine braking for a while and see how it effects the gas mileage. If it doesn't.... then I'll do that from now on and save some brakes. I'll take about a week to experiment, get gas, and get back to you guys.
  24. I always put my car in neutral. It definitely helps your gas mileage to just use the brakes. And it does make sense that it would wear your clutch out faster.
