"spy" pics of new 05 outbacks! and i got to drive it!
calebz replied to Ratty2Austin's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXDrive by wire is a setup that uses a potentiometer and servo system in place of an accelerator cable.. As you step on the gas, the pot attached to the pedal moves and sends a signal to the ECU that in turn, combined with a number of other factors sends a specific voltage to the fuel injectors and a servo at the throttle body. Thats the most basic level of a drive by wire system. My 91 Saab 9000T was drive by wire, but it also had a throttle cable as a back up.. If there were problems with certain systems (ABS, EFI and others), the drive by wire would disengage and you would go back to cable control. but ti was designed to only allow use of about 1/3 of the power when using cable control.. not a bad idea I guess on a car whose top speed stock was just under 150mph.. I guess they figured if the ABS or other such systems crapped out, limiting available power would be a good thing.

blowout valve
Yes.. I know, I made the generalization based on the fact that is the old gen forum, the car in question is an old genand as far as I know, no one here is running a MAP system on their old soob(yet). I didn't feel a need to confuse the issue with newer information that wasn't relevant to his current needs. You are 100% correct though.

Engine Mods for a 89 RX?
Look at your "blow off valve' thread theres links to pics of what I have done to my car.

Cool.. I have been curious about the ease of fitment of impreza seats.

blowout valve
If you mean 'blow off valve', I don't know of anyone that has made their own.. and with stock boost its not really necessary. your car is equipped with a dash pot that stop the throttle plate from slamming shut. I am using a blow off valve from an RX7.. others use Saab and Volvo BOVs.. they are cheap and plentiful in junk yards. Fliip through my photo album here http://usmb.net/gallery/albuo11 and you will see the BOV, boost controller, Intercooler and hood scoop. It will give you an idea on how it all goes together Note: Subarus do not like to have their BOVs vented to the atmosphere.

replacing distrubutor on 89 RX
Rotor not turning usually means broken drivers side timing belt. Are you sure you have both bolts off the distributor?
-
mods/?'s
The reason people are seeing more power from using a 'newer' bottom end, is because they are probably using an SPFI block, which has a higher C/R than the carb block/pistons.

replacing distrubutor on 89 RX
There are 2b bolts that hold the distributor down, instead of just one like many other cars..pull those two, grab, twist and pull, it should pop right out.

intercooled folks..
This one fits But now that I have one, I haven't been able to find anymore of them
-
intercooled folks..
The WRX scoop is too wide for the hump on the hood by 5-6 inches
-
intercooled folks..
I was a bit curious about how you mounted such a big IC.. and yes, the big Saab IC is basically the same as that big volvo IC

stock ig. coil seeping oil...is it done?
What he said.

intercooled folks..
That one in the pic is the same one my 85s(2), 86, 87, 89 and 90 900 Turbo had.( The S was non turbo until the newer body style 94+) My 9000 Turbos on the other hand, had the full size front mount IC thats the same size as the radiator.

should i worry about this?
calebz replied to rugbyben's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI would try the dealership. The warranty is only a pain if you have a crappy dealership. If the noise is audible and can be reproduced in command, theres no reason you should be hassled. PS.. check your fluid levels first.

calebz replied to Ratty2Austin's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXYup.. our 05 is probably your 04.. seems you guys always get stuff a year before us.. For example, I recall seeing a couple 84 EA82 RXs.. we didn't get the EA82 until 85

Auto to manual swap ect...
No problem. Glad to see you're making progress. You have my number. Call me if you get stumped or need an exra set of hands.
-
intercooled folks..
So far so good. BTW, thats a 900 IC, not a 9000 IC Those braided IC hoses look like they are stock Starion/conquest hoses.. thats what I have on mine too

Auto to manual swap ect...
If it looks like the axle holes line up, but the pins won't go in, they are probably 180 off. For the switch on the clutch pedal, that is for the cruise control I believe. None of my EA82 cars with a 5 speed have had a neutral/clutch safety switch (they were all 87-90 models)

Electric Supercharger Kit
calebz replied to KDUB's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI agree.. they are stupid. They are crap However, the EJs are all FI.. only in the US/Canada(the 51st state:lol: ) other parts of the world have carb'd legacies and such
-
intercooled folks..
Your sig says you already have a Saab 9000 IC..(thats one biggass IC.. my last one was as big or bigger thab an EA82 radiator) I have noticed, especially when its cool out that my car pulls a bit harder since the IC and hood scoop went on .

calebz replied to Ratty2Austin's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXFinally!! Subaru gets 'Drive by wire' Wonder if they borrowed it from Saab (Who has been using various forms of "drive by wire" since 91 or 92) That OB looks nice Austin.

New and looking to buy an '87 GL10 Turbo Wagon
Check for axles clicking(will mean new axles needed), lifters ticking(they almost all do that), overheating(bad bad bad.. especially on a turbo), and oil leaking from the cams and front crank seals( I think they are designed to leak...) $900 for one in good shape with new stuff.. go for it.
