  1. Theres one of those in a yard down here too.. maybe we could make one good one
  2. Its actually possible, and yes, even easy to use a top mount intercooler wothout a spider intake.
  3. 100 degrees.. wow.. Got my IC in.. Time to get a scoop and get some air moving over it. Thanks for the info.
  4. Yup.. its worth about 3-4 extra HP:) And it looks really cool.. and it can make plumbing an IC a little easier,
  5. This time, when I swapped the tranny in my car a couple weeks ago, I had the complete donor car to pull parts from .. thats the best way.. otherwise, junkyards and board members are the way to go.. When i first did my conversion last june, I did it without the donor car.. only piece I got from the junkyard was the interior console piece.. got the rest of the parts form various board members. Just noticed you are in Oregon.. washington and oregon are soob central.. there will be no shortage of parts.. chances are, someone on the board between portland and seattle will have most of the stuff you need.. if not, there are a milion soobs in the yards there.. although my experience with prices in oregon yards has never been that great.. might be worth the drive to the Tacoma pull a part
  6. You need to remove the whole pedal box and put one in from a 5 speed car.. yes there is a hole for the clutch cable. In addition to GDs list, you will need the tranny cross member your rear diff is a 3.70.. there are 3 different 5 speed manuals that will also have the 3.70 ratio.. they are all out of turbo cars.. basically if you get a 5 speed from a turbo car, you are good to go.. if you get one from an NA car, you will need the natching rear diff. Most of the process will become obvious as you start to take stuff apart.
  7. Cool.. Another DFW subaru owner. We need more of those. I don't know how you feel about dealerships, but Subaru of Dallas service department has a pretty good reputation around here... Also, I would be more than happy to give a listen to your knock. Another option is hooking up with the local impreza club. They meet up every friday night at the wingstop on Little RD in arlington. A number of those guys are pretty handy with a Subaru.. One is a Wrench for SoD.
  8. NOpe.. nmo problems as long as you have all the parts. I did it last year with the 3AT in my TurboWagon. Its easiest if you have a complete donor car, but its not necessary
  9. If you have a 4EAT, you are 90% FWD anyway.. no great gains by bypassing the AWD.. rear tires only have more than 10% power when its needed.
  10. The guys at subaru of dallas are pretty good for tech/part number questions. I have thrown a few strange ones their way.. they have had the info for me usually same day, or at latest, the day after.. I'll dig up their number a little later.
  11. Andy, is the XT6 sway bar a noticeable difference over the TurboWagon sway bar?
  12. Not sure about the other systemsd, but on mine, with no refrigerant in the system, it won't even try to turn on.
  13. I would start with a good coolant flush.. its an old car.. its very possible that theres crap built up in the coolant passages. also, check the belt that runs the water pump.. make sure its tight. maybe test/replace your radiator cap.. possibly even you whole radiator.. these old radiators are not known for there awesome cooling abilities.
  14. I have some of the info you need.. will have to dig it out. One thing I can tell you off the top of my head is that the vacuum for the difflock solenoids comes from the white vacuum canister on the passenger side firewall.. This stops it from going into positive pressure when boost hits. As far as the difflock swotch goes, there are 5 wires right? I just did mine a couple of weeks ago and as I recall, you only need 3 of those wires to make the difflock work.. the other 2 were for lights.
  15. Yes, the EA82 has two timing belts. However, Our EA71 and EA81 equipped cars do not. As I said, our L-series cars come with the EA82 (Timing belt ) motor. But we have the pre-85 bodystyle (that was continued until 88-89 in in hatch form) that uses the Ea71 and EA81
  16. Plus, While we didn't use the EA71 as long as some other places(never in the L-series cars) we did have it up through the 80s in the older body style cars. Nice looking soob.. I like the white L-series wagons:)
  17. Unless it was changed for the 90 and up (loyale) model years, theres just one flasher unit that runs turn signals and hazards. I don't mean to sound mean or anything... But you do know that the front corner lights do not flash with the hazards/turn signals right? The front hazards/turn signals are inset in the front bumper. Again, not trying to sound condecending.. I just know that I thought it was weird that the front corner lights don't flash.. and I have seen others(myself included) that thought there was something wrong because of it as well
  18. Good start! Since I don't have to worry about the plenum being in the way, I see fewer problems. Keep up the good work
  19. I went and took some pics of how mine is set up, but can't log in to the gallery to post them... Ok.. I have 3 plugs for my AC. \ Plug one-one wire- To AC compressor Plug two-2 black wires- To AC compressor Plug three-2 wires(red and green)- To the 'little black box' that bolts to the top of the compressor. It reads compressor RPMs so it knows to disengage if something is stuck. Will not work if this piece is missing/disconnected. However, not all the AC setups had them. It depends on which compressor yours came with.
  20. Clean the burnt oil from the dipstick... and repost this question in the new gen forum.. very few people actually look here
  21. Perhaps a special deal for those of us that already have the adapter and filter? Also, could you put up a pic that better illustrates how you have plumbed in the BPV on the MAF to turbo pipe.. Gonna be doing that tomorrow or the next day.. would like to see as many options as possible. Thanks
  22. if your hatch is a manual, it will have a 3.90 rear. The XT rear ratio will depend on trann and whether its turbo or NA and the $64000 question.. have you found a locking rear diff? as far as I know, there is no such thing (factory ) on a soob
  23. ANyone notice the headlight washer sprayers on the front bumper.. Thats pretty cool..
  24. Sorry, I thought when I looked at that post a while back that I got by just searching for CIS.. my mistake Peter. One thing you might be able to do is find some EA81T heads.. The EA81T is a multiport injected motor.. so your injector bosses would be less of a problem.. it would however create new problems.. mainly, finding the heads..
