non-turbo to Turbo swap... is it a real PITA?
I guess you already know what I think of it:-p Why not jut try to find a GL-10?.. its the same car as the GL, just top of the line like. Its not like they are rare.. Some GLs also came turbo IMO, yes, its too much of a PITA when there are so many factory turbo cars out there to be had. If you put a Turbo motor in an NA car, you will need the engine wiring harness all the way back to the computer(under the dash).. basically everything that attaches to the computer, as well as a bunch of little stuff under the hood. Oh, and don't forget the crossmember and the exhaust system. Those are different too.. Might also need the gauge cluster, but that I am not too sure about. I'm sure theres about 100 little things I have forgotten, so make sure you have a complete turbo car for a parts donor.. but then again, if you had a complete turbo car you probably wouldn't be taking on this mess to begin with :-p

Greetings! new guy with a fairly extensive question (long)
As far as I know, there is no 'chip' for the EA82t or the ER27(XT6) They are very nearly the same motor(with the ER27 having 2 more cylinders). There is nearly NO aftermarket for old soobs. Pretty much every thing you see on the board here is stuff that has been dreamed up and designed by board members. There is some stuff available at www.subspeed.com .. But its too expensive IMO. Nearly everything is interchangeable on the EA82 cars( GL, GL-10, rx, Loyale).. I think the only original parts left on mine are the dash and the headliner. It used to be a part time 4wd automatic. have had 2 different 5 speeds in it since then. As I said before, GL-10 is just a GL with more power acessories(mostly). The biggest favor you can do for yourself is to find one that is a facory turbo car so you don't wind up having to swap wiring harnesses. There is currently a thread going about using MegaSquirt and MegaJolt systems on old soobs. Check it out, maybe theres something there you like.

Aussie Hatch... Now ej22 Converted. (with pics)
I also have questions about the clutch setup.

Greetings! new guy with a fairly extensive question (long)
The powers not bad. These cars aren't screamers. I would say the pickup on mine is about equivalent to a stock late 80s Saab 900T. The intercooler is something I added on. None of the old soobs came with them. Turbo lag isn't too bad with the stock turbo, but yes, they are kinda wimpy. Search the board for some options (VF11). There are a few different discussions about it.

New Member Question on Tranny Swap

Greetings! new guy with a fairly extensive question (long)
So you're thinking maybe a GL wagon (GL-10 is just a trim line. mechanically the same) with FT4WD/AWD (Maybe a locking center diff), Turbo, more boost, Intercooler.. things like that? Sounds like my car http://usmb.net/gallery/albuo11

Alternator Q's
The XT6 alt (90 amp) can be used in place of stock, but it requires some modifications. See the UltimateSubaru Repair manual for specifics. Beyond that, you are looking at some fabrication. Most commonly used is a GM alt, as the wiring setup is similar to a soob.

bad fuel pump? *updated*
Fuel pressure for a turbo should be about 36 PSI at the rail. deadhead should be 60-70

Thinking about it
Better word 'Search' There are so many offroad soobs on this forum you cant go 2 feet without tripping over one. Look around the site. Do your research. If you spent $25k on a jeep, then you know whats needed for offroad and what can be put off.

Another Dead Accell
Honestly, I have have owned over 60 cars. This is only the second time I have ever had a bad coil. The first one was over 20 years old when it crapped out.

Intercooler sprayers
Parts list (yours may vary) 2 Garden Fogger Nozzles from home depot 1 Rear washer tank from an EA82 Wagon(with pump) 1 Rear wiper/washer switch from an EA82 wagon 1 'T' connector (pulled from under the hood of an EA82 wagon) - some various assorted hoses. I used windshield washer hoses from.. you guessed it.. an EA82 Wagon - Some wire The tank fit quite nicely behind my IC, thus minimizing the amount of hose needed. On the left side of the steering column there is a blank for a switch. It just happens to be the right size for the extra rear washer switch I had. popped right in. The nozzles themselves are mounted on the underside of the hood in the front and rear of the hole for the hood scoop. They provide a fairly wide dispersal pattern and meet in the middle to create a fog that covers the whole IC. As I said before. Most of the stuff came from a subaru. The nozzles were given to me by one of the local NASIOC guys that was doing the same thing on his WRX wagon. I believe they are about $2 for a pack of 10

87 GL 4WD Q's
If its an 88(should be according to the mfr date) 1) it will most definitely be FI (SPFI or Turbo MPFI) 2) If its a Pushbutton its 4wd not AWD 3) no idea on the headliner.. been wondering that myself 4) Probably 3AT.. the only 4EATs I have seen have been FT4WD (AWD)

Intercooler sprayers
Yup, thats the same article I read before I did my sprayer.

Intercooler sprayers
Obviously keeping a bag/block of ice is going to cool better than water. Not terribly practical in daily driving situations though. As far as automatic control and having something that anticipates the need for the spray, I didn't really find that to be necessary. I personally don't have too much trouble pushing a button on the dash when I want it to spray. A design for optimal spray usage/water conservation? That would depend on a number of factors, IC size being a big one. Total cost $0

EA82 5spd / with ECU from Auto, Problems?
Dunno about 85, but my 87 TurboWagon currently has an ECU from an Auto.(original ECU was auto as well.. the car was an Auto) All I had to do when I swapped the trannies was bypass/jumper the neutral safety switch

Intercooler sprayers
No messier than rain going into the scoop.. The STi comes with an IC sprayer on a top mount. No apparent problems as of yet. Tank, pump, hose, nozzles, momentary button and some time:brow: If you wait until the car hits boost, its too late.. You want the IC to be cooled before you hit boost. I'll get some pics and maybe a small writeup together later. One little hint. Everything except the 3 zip ties and spray nozzles are Subaru parts
