  1. To add to that, the turbo cams had a different profile for 85-86 and and 87+
  2. if you are getting a CEL, there is a code. Check the stored codes before you go ripping the turbo off... as a matter of fact, don't rip the turbo off.. its not worth the effort as the chances of it being your problem are about .0001% Fox's ideal of a sticky TPS is more likely
  3. Its a good idea to do the water pump, timing belts(both) and tensioners at the same time.. Also, its a good time to take care of any oil leakes you might have.. came seals, oil pump, crank seal.
  4. just get a new driveline from a wrecking yard.. the U joints are considered non servicable items.. other option is to have a machine shop press them out and install 'serviceable' ones.. Since they don't commonly go out, I would just get another driveshaft.
  5. Just because they are.. get one of each sometime and compare.. follow blindly the voices of experience;)
  6. Some things are just weird like that .. I had a 94 chrysler LHS.. on my way to work in the morning it was fine, but at one particular place, if I drove by after 9pm or so, the check engine light would come on.. didn't matter if I was cruising at 50 or stopped at the light.. it was really weird.. some places are just haunted like that
  7. Yours is a GL-10, so you have a digidash.. its not actually getting hot, its a ground thing. Mine does the same thing.. the more electrical accessories that are on, the higher my temp gauge goes.. I added more grounds under the hood and that helped, but I finally said screw it and put an A-pillar gauge pod in with a spot for an aftermarket temp gauge.
  8. Didn't think you had.. Thought I would be a pal and suggest it. Seriously.. you sound like you have pretty much hit a wall with your SPFI.. except for maybe some head work.
  9. In WA, you don't actually get a salvage title. you go to the DOL as described above..get the paperwork, send it certified mail. If it comes back, you can then register the car, but you don't get a title until 2 years later (and when you do get one its a clean title, not salvage). And you never get money for towing and storage unless two things happen. A) you are a licensed impound/storage facility. A judge awards the money to you because you bitch and complain when the owner shows up to claim their car.. and even then most of th time you are SOL... Again, this only applies to WA.. done it a couple of times... well.. more than a couple. OTOH, I looked into doing the same thing here in TX.. hell no.. its just not worth it.. the amount of paperwork is huge and you have to post a bond on the car .. its just a crazy process here.
  10. You are. Its SINGLE point fuel injection Pop the top off and look at one sometime.. just one injector right in the top of the throttle body
  11. It sounds to me more like the motor is 'burping' than the tranny being weird...
  12. What is your idle set at? and how close to a stop are you when the pitching begins?
  13. I would guess between $800 and $1500 depending on what your local market will support.. If it were me buying it, I would agree with MorganM..$500.. But we are all cheapskates here.
  14. Stock ER27 is around 140.. with two turbos you better get more than 175.. SubaruBrats pulls about 250 and its still N/A.....Lots of work and $$ Let me be the first to say ... go with an EJ;)
  15. I recently had a similar problem.. Turned out that both the starter and the battery cables were worn out.. only takes about 20 minutes to change all of it.. They don't die often, so junkyard parts are usually ok.
  16. A new home for the dirty girl huh? hmmmm... Wonder how she'd like Texas... Wonder how long I would be married after bringing her home Cool car guys!
  17. Alternator. Possibly some crappy or loose connections.
  18. Glad to see I'm not the only one.. I keep 2-3 spares around .. I go through at least 2 per year.
  19. Heads, wiring harness, ECU, exhaust, crossmember, intake manifold, MAF.. and a bunch of other little stuff... plus, the C/R is different between your motor and the Turbo.. only one person that I know of has used the SPFI(your motor) C/R with a turbo.. worked, but wasn't real long lived.
  20. Theres a guy on the BYB board that has what I beleive is a speedster.. he put an EA82T in it.
  21. Corky, if you need pics of the 3.90 LSD, I will get some for you soon.
  22. Mid 90s here.. 80-100% humidity at all times.. yuck.. 90 degrees .. heat index puts it up to 110 or so.. just nasty.. My soob doesn't like it much either. However, the IC and IC sprayer sure do help:)
  23. you guys and your old soobs. Mentis. the distributor on your car is on the driver side rear of the motor.. EA82T
  24. As of this moment, there are 116,299 posts on the USMB.. Loads of good stuff Stuff like that is terribly hard to diagnose over the internet. Not sure what that would be A free flowing exhaust will is the best way to improve mileage.. Currently I get 20-22mpg in my Turbowagon.. WJM on the other hand got his up in the high 20's by putting on a better exhaust system from the turbo back. I checked the member list and didn'y find anyone in Billings.. that doesn't mean there isn't anyone there .. Just means that they haven't filled out their profile
