What size wrench to adjust front bolts?
calebz replied to Trailduster's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Way to go Hassey.. a nice long post without a single portion addressing the question asked.. I found that a 21mm worked well on my adjustables, but being EA82, they might be a touch different. -
I will be happy to give you a hand with the tranny swap when the time comes.. I'm in Austin for the week, But will be back in North Dallas soon. There is a great article Cameron wrote on tearing the lifters down and cleaning them, but for some strange reason its not in the USRM.. Turbo Parts are a little difficult to find in this area, but I believe that a friend of mine in Denton (he's on the board, but doesn't post) has some cracked Turbo heads we could probably salvage some parts from. I'll get ahold of him when I get back in to town if you want... I will also see if I can dig up that article on lifter cleaning.. Some of the oldtime Board members should know whih one I am talking about.. I have it at home, but I am on a laptop in a hotel room....if anyone knows where its at, please pass it on to this guy.. And Brian. why isn't camerons article in the USRM?.. or did I just miss it? EDIT: I love the yellow wire looms on the intake hoses.. gonna have to get some of those for my wagon.

They were the ones I had to cut myself.. I will check them over.. just realized that I don't know how old the cap is.. I changed the cap 6 months ago, but then switched distributors. different year disty.. different cap style.. and here I have been thinking I have a new cap on there.

Speed.. No vaccum advance on 87 and up, so no dice there Cougar. I check to see if I had knocked a vacuum hose loose or anything like that, but couldn't find anything. Don't hear it sucking air anywhere..No change in idle.. acceleration is even ok until boost hits...problem didn't arise until after spark plug and wire change.. intake gakets replaced about 3-4 months ago.. The car has always had a tiny bit of surging, but that has been the norm for both of my turbo soobs.. this is just ridiculous though. Thanks guys, keep them ideas coming:D

Car in Sig... Accell Coil.. been on there for months.. no problem Just put a new set of NGKs (.050, then down to .048)in there, along with some accell 8mm wires.. Starts great, idles fine.. Accelerates fine when cold... Since the wires and plugs, Its been a little gutless in the mid-top end range.. Had to drive 4 hours to Austin today.. Now, after reaching operating temp, when ever the Turbo engages, it bucks and has very limited power.. Passing anyone is an absolute joke and my gas mileage, which has never been great, has gone down he crapper.. under 20 on the highway. I have removed my boost controller.. no change, except the car is even slower now:mad: I will be in Austin all week, probably not driving much.. But also not having much opprotunity to tinker with the car.. then the 4 hour drive north.. am hoping to have a massive flash of insight before then.

put in 8mm+ accell coil , .50 gap, low idle

Thats funny, I just did the same thing, and all my top end seems to have gone away....might try regapping your plugs to about .047-.048.. I know I am going to .. -
If your wagon is 4WD, you can use the 2WD struts to lower it about an inch. XT struts are about an inch shorter than the 2WD struts..I have a set of each in my garage..

If its anything like the EA82T, the heads don't lend themselves very well to a cab/spfi intake.. plus, the compression on the turbo motor is lower than that of an N/A motor.. you would need intake, heads, pistons.. pretty much everything except a new block in order to change it to a carb with decent compression. Good luck, sounds like you have a fun project ahead.

New Forum? Sticky maybe? Or slippy maybe?
calebz replied to WJM's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
yeah.. we could include EA81Ts.. all 5 of them -
You are a member of the hatch patrol. It would be appropriate for you to have Hatch Patrol stickers on your cars.. As far as putting the turbo emblems on your on your non turbo subaru... I stand by what I said originally.. I will also add that I feel bad for the poor saab that was raped for the emblems

It sounds like a valet switch for the alarm.. when hooked up and switched on, it would arm the alarm after the car was parked without having to use the remote

I think any vacuum port on the manifold should work... -
I have spark, fuel, and air. Still won't start

My guess is that the coil was a turd right out of the box... A good coil should last darn near forever.. I have dealt with all sorts of electrical bugs in all sorts of cars.. even fried my ECU last summer (still haven't figured out why that happened).. I have seen very few things that will do major damage to a coil.. superheating it could damage it.. dropping it off a 10 story building on to concrete.. my guess is you just got a bum coil -
help!, auto tranny posessed by demons...
calebz replied to Silent Bob's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Its 2wd, so its a 3AT.. Miles is on the right track with the building of pressure thought.. perhaps it is time to change the fluids and clean/replace the filter on the valve body..I seem to remember that these are supposed to be nonserviceable.. but I could be wrong.. don't have my FSM here to look at.. I noticed with my last 2wd 3AT that it was a little slower to engage when cold.. I just chalked it up to being an old car.. it wasn't really noticably slow.. just a little slower than when warm.. -

I had a similar problem a while back.. turned out to be the ignition module in the distributor getting hot and dying.. fine start when cold.. after I let it warm up it would die at idle and not restart until it cooled off again..I swapped the distributor for a spare I had and the problem went away... A bad coil can also exhibit symptoms lie you have described. -

Don't forget the UltimateRobForum:D But an EA82T forum gets my vote, as I have no interest in justys or EA81s .. Nor to I have the knowledge to be of help to owners of those cars. I also know very little about subaru carbs, never having owned one.. I would still pop in to share my vast wealth of SPFI knowledge:lol:.. But turbos are what I know best, and it would be nice to not sift through a dozen posts asking "where do I get lift kits".. or " how do I get a weber" -
Check the vacuum lines from the white canister (between the fire wall and strut tower on the passenger side) to the 4wd solenoids ( on the driver side between the firewall and the strut tower) make sure non of the vacuum lines are loose/disconected

 Good luck finding one. If it were that easy, we would all have one or two

Brake fluid & Oil together at last
calebz replied to MaroonDuneDoom's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
brake Fluid? Dump some into his car first and run it around for a few hundred miles.. Brake fluid is nasty stuff.. I wouldn't do it.. but maybe someone here knows better than me.. -
What do you want out of me
calebz replied to tailgatewagon's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
A kit with timing belts, cam seals, oil pump gaskets(including MM gasket) would be great.. for EA82T Oh yeah.. Cheap LSDs would be nice too:D -
Sure.. those would be great.. if you had an STi.. otherwise, they would be just as gay as the honda boys that put type R stickers all over their bottom of the line civic.
