More progress and pics from the body shop
calebz replied to subarubrat's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Whew.. I was off the board for about a week.. thought maybe something bad had happened. So far so good! -
Hard to tell you what will or will not work.. you have yet to tell us what exactly you have.. is it a vane style MAF with a vacuum advance distributor? is it a hotwire MAF with CAS? what year is the car?

Could be that your clutch isn't aligned quite right.. even having the splines a tiny bit off center will make it not stab properly.. do you have a clutch alignment tool? BTW.. I always take the motor completely out anyway.. I figure that if I am going to go through the trouble of taking it part way out, I may as well take it all the way out for more room to work.. It also gives me a chance to inspect all those pesky little turbo hoses..

I must have missed it.. what happened to the brat? -
While its true that the first pic is the EGR, my understanding is that you are looking for the EGR solenoid. The thing in the second pic looks like an EGR solenoid, but its kinda hard to tell.. It Might be a purge control solenoid.. The only visible difference between the two are the connectors.. What you can do, is start at the EGR(the thing in the first pic) and follow the vacuum hose (also visible in the first pic) until you get to the solenoid..( it looks like the thing in the second pic)

Don't knock it till you've tried it

As usual, Skip is correct.. My brain was stuck on the 5 speed FT4WD

Seriously though.. I think the point has been made that there are few bolt ons for your car.. and none cheap.. you want exhaust? go to an exhaust shop and have them build it to your specs.. you want an intake? go to subspeed.com and pay too much for it, or make one yourself.. are you seeing a pattern here yet? -

LOL.. took me a minute to find what you were talking about.. Fixed it:o -
Sounds like an RX. Get the VIN and sent it to corky, as come standard GLs were specially odered with RX stuff.. you could order almost anything.. WagonsOnly.. Turbo Traction sedans didn't come with D/R (Don't think they came with the checkerboard interior either) and were most commonly equipped with a digidash. RX had no digidash, so that would be another way to help clear the air.. does it have a digidash? Additionaly, I don't think any soobs came with LSDs until 87 and later.. Could be wrong about that though.. Again, Corky would know better than I.

need opinions on "utilitarianizing" ea82 wagon

John I'm diggin the rubber mat Idea..I don't want to make mine a complete utility vehicle, but it does get used for some nasty stuff sometimes.. Don't know why I didn't think of the truck mat idea.. I have had one of those in the back of my truck for years.. -
Board? Pipe? We just reach in , grab a head and pull out the lump...... Have done it with 2 people.. Easier with a third for supervision though.. especially when I'm the supervisor:D

EA82 & EA82T Passenger side head interchangeable?
calebz replied to jimkup's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Do you have some spare turbo heads floating around looking for a home? -

EA82T has 111(85-86)-115(87 and up) HP .. You want over 200HP for cheap, get another car. you have 2 options for a 200+ HP old school soob.. 1 Build the crap out of the engine.. Cost.. $2-4K 2 Put in an EJ drivetrain Cost $2-4K -
Price is really dependant on a lot of things.. where you are located is a big consideration.. No way to know, since you didn't include that fact under your name.... also, was the top done by the above mentioned german company? Or was it done by some druken redneck out behind his trailer with a cutting torch? The biggest consideration in price is how much you want it. If you want it bad enough, it is worth whatever you are willing to pay for it.. Without more pertinent information, I would say a non running justy is worth about $50.. $100 if the rest is in really good shape..

The softball thing sounds like the cruise control vacuum canister my guess is that this unknown part is part of the cruise system

3at to 5-speed swap, what do i need?
calebz replied to Meeky Moose's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
On the car with the Auto, you will need to run a jumper between 2 wires (yellow and a large black one I think.. would have to check) these two wires are located on a wiring clip that is located under the chifter trim panel in the center console.. There is no worry about ECU compatibility.. I did an 87 wagon 3AT to PB 4WD 5 speed in june.. Will be happy to advise as I am able. -
There is a coolant line under the turbo that is a common leaker.. they will range from little pinholes to spouting geysers of explosively hot coolant.. most people replace it with a silicone line

No carb in a turbo model.. You cant go removing the EGR and vacuum stuff without consequences either.. the computer won't like it.. as a matter of fact, there isn't muchyou can remove from a Turbo/MPFI motor.. you just have to make sure what you have works right. As shawn asked, did you just tune it up?. does it make a difference if the car is warm or cold? Sounds very much likea vacuum leak, except for the gas smell. Did you replace fuel pump/lines/filters recently? any gas pooling around the injectors ? How do the plugs look? is it blowing balck smoke? You said you have been farting around with it.. then it wouldn't idle.. what specifically were you farting around with?

Yup, It can be pulled by 2 people.. Been there.. jack the tranny up a little.. cuss at it until you and the engine turn blue, and it should slide right out... it is easier with a cherry picker though.. If you have to put it back in by hand, its a lot easier with 3 people.
