  1. My charge light never came on in either of my GL-10s when my alt went bad
  2. That is the EA81 brats, hatches older wagons(81-84 i believe)
  3. Not a straight bolt in swap, if thats what your looking for, but it can be done.. electrycmonk did it in his 87 wagon. there are some recent posts about it. do a search for it and it should come up, or dig through the member list and find him.. there is probably a link to his home page
  4. My soob is the one in my sig.. I had an 88 prior to that and it gave me very few problems. despite all the problems, I still like my soob. In the past 3 months I have had. Alternator replacement Bad tie rod end Broken clutch cable 2 of the 3 bolts that hold the AC/Alt bracket broken off in the Intake manifold and block Tail Lights shorted out at the switch Cooling problems intake gasket leak(that one may have been my fault:o ) power steering rack went kaboom mysterious stalling problem.. and inability to restart after stall and most recently, car has come down with a case of Kentucky Fried ECU.. replacement from a board member should be here in a couple of days. As I said.. soon it will be a brand new car But all of those problems combined, and sometimes happening all at once prompted the purchase of the camry. My wife refused to drive the soob anymore.. For the most part, I try not to drive around in it with my daughter, because my faith in the car is somewhat rattled and I don't want to be broken down on the side of the road in the 100+ degree heat with a 20 moonth old little girl in a place where i know almost no one (texas)
  5. There is absolutely NO WAY you will get 10hp out of modifying your airbox.. 2-3 maybe.. but it sure sounds a lot cooler than stock
  6. Was looking at my MAF today(yeah, I know, I am easily entertained)... its the hotwire type.. right next to the electrical plug, there is a little round plastic plug that covers what appears to be some sort of adjustment screw.. can anyone tell me what this is?
  7. I love my soobies.. Even though the current one has been a constant string of oddball problems.. at its current rate, it will be a brand new car within 6 months (replace this, replace that. fix one the other breaks.. you know..).. However, I did a lot of homework before I bought my yota.. The gen 3 camry is about the most bullet proof car ever made as far as I can tell. and so far it has lived up to that reputation. after reading a couple hundred reviews, visiting message boards and all sorts of other stuff, the most common recurring problem I found out about with my 94 camry was a malfunction of the power antenna(which mine is afflicted with.. $20 fix.. been too lazy to do it).. I can live with that.. especially since it has all those things my old soobs never came with.. 200hp, leather, power seats, cc and AC that actually work consistently All in all, its a great car for my wife to drive. I am confident I won't get a phone call from her telling me she is broken down on the side of the road somewhere in the 100 degree texas heat.. I honestly wish I could say the same about my soob.. but thats why I drive the soob and she drives the camry
  8. It gets even better.. keep an eye out for the Saab 9x wagon.. Saab styling, WRX 2.0 engine/AWD.. Gotta love that.. I do.. But I am a big Saab fan.. Have had a bunch of them.. I'm savin my pennies for when they release them
  9. Good thing its not the old camrys.. my 94 has 126k on it and still going strong.
  10. As with the other board, it only shows email addys in the profile if the user has elected to allow it to be seen. Check mine, it shows up.. others, it doesn't .. its a choice each user makes As far as I can tell, the email button is still there at the bottom of each post
  11. Is that the 88 GL-10 turbo wagon I saw on Ebay.. Great shape for an east caost car.. If thats the one you got, it looks like a smokin deal! Congrats!
  12. Width is completely dependant on the offset of the wheels you use.. Thats why pug wheels are so good for our cars.. the offset allows for minimal rub troubles. Toyota wheels have a different offset and stick out a little more I believe
  13. I have mine gapped to .046. That seems to work well
  14. Your last post isn't exactly coherent. You can do a few things.. Drill 2 new holes in a chevy, toyota whatever, 6 lug rim.. the stock holes on the rim are spaced in such a way that 2 of your studs will already fit. or you can drill some more holes in your hubs and pop more lug studs in there and use 6 lug wheels that way. Also, I read(back when I had a peugeot) that there was a guy in seattle that was making adapters to put newer style honda wheels on pugs.. since our bolt pattern is the same, its a good bet that those adapters would work for our soobs too.. I recall that they were somewhat cost prohibitive though.. don't remember exactly how much, but it was more than I paid for 2 of my GL-10s combined (for those that know me, you know I'm a cheapskate)
  15. I don't know.. I know nothing specific about carb'd soobs. All of my experience has been with 87 and up SPFI, MPFI/Turbo cars
  16. I had a similar rev problem with my 88 turbowagon when I first got it.. Turned out to be the main wiring harness connectors( those two big plugs by the battery) weren't sealed well and had gotten all boogered up inside.. EDIT: Tell me more about your home made turbo timer, please
  17. This is on your spfi car right? I had the same thing happen on my 87 spfi I went to the wrecking yard and bought 3 of them for $5. actually got 2 that worked. I may still have the spare here somewhere. I will look, but no guarantees.. after the big move, I don't know what I have, or where its at. I know that I got rid of 99.9% of my spare parts(no , I didn't throw them away, passed them on to a deserving board member).. But if you have a cheap yard with lots of soobs anywhere near you, grab a handful of those solenoids.. one is bound to work. When standing in front of your car, it is on the left side of the throttle body, attached directly to the manifold. there are 2 solenoids there. One is the EGR solenoid, and one is for the purge control. Can't remember for sure, but I think the Egr solenoid is the one closer to the firewall.. might be wrong about that.. you should trace the vacuum hose from the valve to the solenoid to be sure of which one it is.
  18. All thoughts of the EGR itself aside, your error code points to a failure of the solenoid.. not the valve itself..
  19. "The alt would explain some, but not all of the symptoms. If the car died while being driven, it would tend to rule out most of the electrical system, including the alt. Is this what happened when the car "died"?" Not true at all. My car died due to a bad alternator. No warning lights. Ran crappy for about 2 blocks before it died. it just wasn't able to keep the line voltage necessary to fire the injectors and the ignition system. After it drained the battery, there was nothing to keep it running. Thankfully when it happened, I was less than half a block from home.. Changed the alt, jump started it. Two days later, started a 2400 mile trip. Problem never reappeared
  20. there is a relay for the fuel pump. It is mounted above the ECu. under the dash .. right over the connectors for the ECU
  21. Was dgiging around the net. saw this on the pirate board Apparently, This thing started life as a legacy.. Finished first in prototype class in a euro competition
  22. The whole repair manual was revamped, so some specific things you wanted may not be there anymore. In addition, because of all the changes, your old links will probably never work again. you will have to create new links
