Who has 15" wheels, pros/cons?
calebz replied to ausubaru92's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Offset will make a difference. Is this an offroad type thing or street thing?. I am currently running 02 WRX wheels 16x6.5 I believe, with 205/50/16s (might be 55) The car is lowered a bit below stock. Not slammed by any means. THey tuck up in the rear quite nicely, and with a little bit of front fender rolling, they will tuck in front. When I had 14 inch pugs though, no tuck.. WRX wheels = 53mm offset Pug wheels = 20mm offset IIRC Most aftermarket 40mm Some aftermarket = 48mm Subarus have a weird offset, a few mm can be the difference between rubbing and no rubbing. -
I'm sure someone will complain about my response, but seriously... Search through this subforum for EJ swap info. Its here by the buttload. Also look for stuff from Dr. RX Look for threads about the UltimateRX

3eat? or 4eat? on a EA82 4X4
calebz replied to LUVMYBRAT's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Quickest way is by knowing what year it is. 86 and older = guaranteed 3AT (no 'E') 87.. maybe 4EAT.. only if its a Turbo car though (as far as I know) 88-89.. same as 87, but slightly more likely 90+ = No idea.. I generally stay away from those. Disclaimer. This information is based only on firsthand observation. Not based on any documented facts -

The fastes I have had my wagon was 105.. ANd that was me, 2 100 pound dogs and a bunch of crap in the car. This is when the motor was still stock.. oh and I had a gaping vacuum/boost leak at one of the intake manifold gaskets. I'm sure it is faster now.. just haven't tried it out. Oh.. and at 4500, its still just getting warmed up;)

You would actually be wrong in thinking that. Even our old fuel systems make timing adjustments on the fly to compensate for various environmental variables. I'll make this as simple as possible. On the back of your block, you have a knock sensor. When your car detonates, or pings (most commonly due to crappy fuel), the knock sensor picks that up. What does it do with that info? It sends a voltage signal to the ECU. The ECU then retards timing to help compensate for the noise. What happens when the timing is in a constant state of retardation? You lose power. This is not a theory boys and girls. This is a basic fact of forced induction cars. It is tangible and measurable. This is where it can get a little tricky. Our old cars are not terribly intelligent.. They can only pull so much timing, and on top of that there are very few other ways that they have to compensate for less than ideal running conditions (read again: crappy fuel). Once it reaches its limit of how much timing can be pulled, you are basically stuck. *shrug* if its worth a few bucks a week savings, have at it. Over a decade of forced induction cars has shown me it is not worth it to run crappy fuel.

93 only for me. The loss of power and increased chance of detonation aren't worth the few bucks a week difference in price.

Also note is says 6k USD Not canadian unless he screwed uP. Thats a lot of frigginmoney no matter where you are.

No Accel Coils, No schucks

Mine lasted only a few months as well. But, I had used them before and never had a problem. So, +1 to the outsourcing aurgument. -
Werd.. drilling the holes out right is a pain in the rump roast

The latest and greatest in mass transit?

Why is it obvious that the side skirts won't fit? THey fit on a wagon Yes, with a little work, it will all fit. (No side skirts in this pic, but you can see the RX grill and front lip)
-
I had that option. These motors do not move enough air volume for a 3 inch to make an appreciable difference over a 2.5. You'll just be louder *shrug*
-
To do it factory style, youo will need heads, intake manifold, crossmember and a bunch of other crap. If you have the know-how, it can be fun.
-
aarrghh.. Its on the car already..And the car is on the ground:-p I have to change the oil on my other car today.. maybe I'll get the wagon up and get some pics then

Well. with the help of 78turbobrat, we finally had some exhaust done up for teh wagon. No pics of it yet, but it does have a nice tip:D 2.5 Inch from the turbo back. High flow muffler that is 2.5 inch in and out (not a straight through muffler) The IC piping was redone at the same time. got rid of the crappy stock WRX Y pipe at the bottom of the IC. They made a new steel Y. Teh wagon seems very happy about it:clap: OVerall, boost is smoother, throttle response is better and the car sounds killer!@@!!

water injection system
calebz replied to okanagansubman's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
How much is a decent water injection setup? I would be curious to see how it compares to what I have spent on intercooling.
