The metra kits rock.. I have a couple of them (dunno where the spare one came from)

Between space requirements and all of the contortions and acrobatics the air would have to do to get in an out of two ICs, you would be better off buying a better top mount IC or a FMiC

No.. That is Jon, our resident King of Bannination Billy is some one else entirely.

Yes, the EJ turbo motors will bolt in. Be prepared for a lot of wiring fun though. It will involve taking the ECU and all attached wiring out and replacing it with the appropriate harness. Not impossible, but not for the faint of heart either.

Need some help on a tranny swap
calebz replied to calebz's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Thanks for the offer of help patrick. Got it pulled and replaced about 14 months ago;) Someone else ressurected the tread for help -
#3 is the closest to the turbo (heat) and also the furthest from the fuel distribution (lean) thus prone to be the most problematic. Its not a new problem, but it is one that seems to have plagued subaru turbo motor for a while. Even now in the newer wrxs I have seen, #3 usually seems to be the first to go if things aren't treated well.

what do you think about this item from EBAY
calebz replied to moshem74's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
It couldn't hurt. SOmething else you might consider is mounting a neodymium magnet somewhere on the pan. If tiy have an old computer hard drive laying around, thats an excellent source for good strong magnets. One thing to keep in mind though, the vast majority of the parts in your motor are aluminum. and that doesn't stick to magnets -
Not enough information to diagnose the failure. Do you still have the stock coil? Put it back on and see what happens. It could be any number of things though. Check your T-belts. Pull the distirbutor cap and turn the motor over.. have someone look to see if the rotor is turning.

help with codes pulled for 87 turbo
calebz replied to thesubeguy's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Before you replace anything, clean the contacts and test the parts.. If you buy new, the MAF can be pretty expensive. -
That could be part of the problem. The three marks on your car should be on the flywheel. Looks something like this ili

Wasn't really calling your wagon slow.. Was just pointing out that the 20-25hp deficit between a stock EA81 and Stock EA82T Is pretty noticeable. Upgraded parts. Bigger turbo, yes you can. Its not striaght bolt on. Things need to change to get it on. I have a TD04 from a 2002-2003 WRX on my wagon right now. And right ogg the top of my head I can think of 2 other people here on the board that have running TD04 EA82T motors. BOV? no.. no horsepower gain. simply a rice accessory unless you aare pushing enough boost to make something like a stock WRX BPV not keep up.. But the chances of that happening are slim to none on an EA82. Seriously, do a search.. there is a ton of information here about modifying EA82T cars for looks, speed and handling.

I added you to my ICQ list.. after you accept it, get ahold of me and we'll talk.

yeah, they have lots of potential. Look around the board some for some of the mods people do. Look up threads under my username for info about my wagon. Its an 87 with the same motor and such as the RX.. Its a bit quicker than stock:D
-
87 RX has the same bolt pattern as the rest of the EA series cars. $1800 is not bad if its in good shape and well maintained No, it isn't fast, but they are fun and moddable. It will be a bit quicker than your 81 most likely

whar engine would best work in an RX?
calebz replied to eddygordouk's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Not sure I follow you. The early WRXs are JDM.. 93 and up as far as 'what would be best'.. are you looking for 270 at the crank or 270 at the wheels? Any of the Ej series turbo motors can meet those requirements -
Auto Tranny Info (87 T-Wag)
calebz replied to froggymike's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Read it again fox. It said essentially the same thing you are saying..The differentiation between facts (observed) and popular opinion are quite clear. I have a book on reading compreshension I could loan you if you would like. Oh and if you must know, its from personal observation. On my own cars even. -

The spline count on all the 3ATs is the same. - 23 spline. HOwever, it is said that the turbo model is 'beefier' to deal with the extra power. The NA model should work in the short term if not abused. Should be a straight swap. The FT4wd 4EAT (turbo model) is a 25 spline tranny, so you would need the 25 spline axles to go with it. Additionally, it has its own computer and seperate wiring harness that would have to be installed -
1987 RX Turbo at the drags last night
calebz replied to BoostedBalls's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
The fuel cutoff switch is a part from the 85-86 turbo cars. If you look on your 87+ turbo car, on the passenger side strut tower, there is a vacuum switch. It comes on at 1psi to trigger the turbo light. The 85-86 cars have 2 switches there one for the turbo light, and one for fuel cut. -
I dunno what to do with my 93 Loyale!!!!!

Classic alternator failure -
No worries about the english. Your english is a bit better than some of the people that are born and rasied here :-p What sort of US parts are you looking for?.. I have a small stash of stuff and I know there are others here with much larger stashes. I imagine shipping could be a killer, but it just might be worth it for both parties for the right parts. Personally, I commend you for having the sac to strip an old soob so that other soobs may live longer, healthier lives. Having done it a few times myself, I know how much of a lifesaver having those extra parts can be.

My pugs were 5.5 inches wide with a +20 offset My 16s are 7 inches wide with a +40 Tire calculator says theres a 1mm difference in clearance.. With some fender rolling in the back, I only rub now around really hard corners.. But I have some 20mm sway bars to help with that.. plus I could always raise the car back up 1/4 inch or so.. -
Does anybody Run a Turbo with NA compression?
calebz replied to ausubaru92's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I run a Carby shortblock with turbo heads/intake and a TD04 from a 2003 WRX. Top end seems a little lacking, but I wasn't terribly interested in top end when I built the motor. Low end is improved, and its nice to be able to actually cruise around town without ever actually having to spool up. But with the higher compression, when I do want the boost, I don't have to wait long for it I have done this with both my volvo and my subaru. honestly, the results were better with the volvo, but not too bad with the soob. -
1- its apparent your friend has no clue about safely modding his WRX. 2 - street racing is bad and has no place here. Maybe Clubsi would be a better place for it 3 - keep it on the track 4 - locked.

Wow Rob, you got lucky. We were just getting ready to impose an age limit on the board.. But now there's too many of you guys;) Curmudgeon, welcome to the board. Lots of good info and people here.
