It will bolt right in.It will hold up. I haven't seen anything that suggests to me that the turbo pushbutton tranny is stronger than the N/A PB tranny they used , or the the D/R tranny. Just be sure to put the matching rear diff in.

so have you done a test fit of the wrx catback? I was courious if it would fit on an ea82. Russ, I'm interested in how you are going to do the flange setup. I do have a little fabrication capability (access to equipment), but I'm trying to keep it to a minimum. Main reason is I want to compile a list of upgrades that are as close to 'bolt-on' as possible for future EA82T owners that want more without having to fab themselves a whole new car... That and .. well.. I'm a lazy cheapskate

Ok. I know Tex has a TD04 and I have read his fairly detailed explanation of how he went about it. I know Garner has a Td04 and have a reaonable idea of how he went about it. Is anyone else here running an EA82 with a TD04 13G on it? Thoughts specifically on uppipe and any potential inlet/outlet fitment problems on stock- non spyder manifolds? Russ, you have one uninstalled don't you? any thoughtsa so far?(I promise I'll listen to you at least this one time;)) Lets just make this the official TD04 EA82 thread.. I know I'm not the only one considering it.

If you aren't prepared to spend the money on a complete turbo-back setup right now, just get a cheapy that will hold you over Otherwise, have someone bend you a 2.5 inch downpipe and go 2.5 inch all the way back with a hi-flow 3 way cat and a better flowing muffler P.S. no on listens to russ

1989 Subaru GL10 Turbo - Hesitations
calebz replied to jazzician's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Nope.. I meant coil pack you said you have a legacy turbo motor. Every Legacy motor I have worked on has had a coil pack like the one above. No distributor. No distributor cap.. I'm just trying to figure out what you have going on under the hood so that perhaps I can make some useful suggestions to help you out. Any pics of the motor? EDIT: just noticed your location is 'International'.. Perhaps things are different wherever you are? The rest of the world gets all sorts of subaru variants we never see here. -
So you want proof, how about a scan from an 89 sales broucher of the option page. On the page, a dot means that item is standard. Here is a link to the page that I scanned, check it out for yourself Thomas. http://www.corkysrocks.net/89options.jpg Terribly interesting there Jesus. Someone should tell those with 89s with FT4WD 5 speeds to go back to SOA to get their money back.

Engine weight? in a subaru>? You have to be kidding. Hate to tell you this son, but one good 'n pissed off 97 pound weakling can pretty much pull an old soob engine by hand SubaruBrat has some custom stuff done on his suspension. Again, fabrication is the key. and if you use suspension to lift a soob/lengthen soob suspension, you will have to make adjustments for camber problems. All involve fabrication.
-
RXs, yes Some belive that the 89 GL-10 with the FT4WD 5 speed came standard with LSD. Theres no documentation to back that up. And I have seen one and known of another that this was not true for... However, MOST FT4WD 5 speed cars I have seen from 87-90 (loyale, Gl, GL-10) have had an LSD. Thats about it.

Unfortunately for you, there isn't really the interchagability of suspension parts that the EA82/ER27 cars have.. you are pretty much stuck with what you have unless you design/build your own.

A lifted vehicle is not a good place to start for a rally vehicle. Often times, unless you are someone known to them , the tech guys won't even let a lifted vehicle run an event. Just something to keep in mind.

Another vote for the coil..

1989 Subaru GL10 Turbo - Hesitations

Am I mistaken in thinking an EJ22 Turbo motor (or any EJ22 for that matter) has a coil pack? I have replaced a couple of coil packs on 90s legacies.. They do wear out -
TWE Header, Downpipe and Fuel

He probably had his injectors cleaned and prettified.. so 180 may be a little closer you your flow rate an old injectors. -
No blow off valve. There is a dash pot that serves the purpose of not allowing the throttle plate to slam shut between shifts, thus giving the pressure somewhere to go. MAF cars don't particularily care for atmospheric BOVs..recric valves work just fine though. And since there is absolutely no performance gain to be had by using a BOV instead of a recirc valve, it doesn't make much sense to go through all the trouble of confusing the ECU with one. shifter play up and down? Absolutely zero for me.

Plain old NGK

Thats actually the scoop on my white wagon. And its not a WRX scoop. The RX with the WRX scoop had some buildup of the sheet metal to accomodate. Mine needs nothing but a hole. (which it has cleverly hidden under the scoop)
-
If you have a TMIC and no scoop, you are better off without the IC. It just heatsoaks.. Here
-
Probably through the mail;)
-
When I did mine, I didn't really see a satisfactory way of mounting the IC to the motor.. perhaps this had to do with my choice of intercooler. Cureently its mounted to the spare tire tray. the mounts are actually somewhat flexible and the piping is a combination of both hard and soft lines. This seemed to be a pretty good compromise and it hasn't caused me any heartache.. its about the only thing on that damned car that I can say that about The impending introduction of a new turbo and IC will completely change the logistics of plumbing and mounting though.. we'll cross that bridge very soon.
-
If you have enough creativity, anything can be accomplished. I managed to get my IC all plumbed and mounted with the only welding being done on one of the IC pipes.. just a little tube welded on to plumb the recric valve.
