what diff ratio does my imp have?
Legacy777 replied to Ratty2Austin's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThe info I have says the 95 AWD has a 3.90 final drive ratio. I would "guess" the 94 is the same. However you may want to confirm that on NASIOC. There's bound to be people that know.

Map vs. Maf air systems
Legacy777 replied to simbey1982's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI guess I'm confused as to what you're doing? The car that you are swapping the engine into, is it MAF or MAP based? Does it have all the wiring and associated parts with it? The engine you have, is it MAF or MAP based? It shouldn't matter....just swap over all the sensors and that jazz from your old engine.

Map vs. Maf air systems
Legacy777 replied to simbey1982's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXCory, I don't think the long block really cares whether it has a MAP or MAF. Just hook all the stuff up from your engine, sensors, intake, etc and let 'er rip.

buying 98 OB with synchros prob?
Legacy777 replied to bustedbolt's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI wouldn't say it'd trash your front gears. It just won't provide as much protection. The main difference between GL4 & GL5 is the EP (extreme pressure) additives. GL4 has EP additives.....GL5 just has more.

buying 98 OB with synchros prob?
Legacy777 replied to bustedbolt's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThe only issue with the MT-90 is that it's not GL5 rated.

Forester short throw shifter?
Legacy777 replied to Shlicker's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI'd recommend replacing the shifter bushings. Kartboy makes replacement bushings that really help the feel of the stock shifter. They also sell short shifters. However the bushings are what help improve the precisiveness of the shifter here's the site www.kartboy.com

Passenger side view mirror question - 94 legacy
Legacy777 replied to spideyz's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI've got a scratch in my driver's side mirror. If I were to replace it with a redi-cut mirror, does the plastic housing need to be removed, or can you remove the mirror itself without removing the plastic housing or guts?

Thermostat Install ?'s
Legacy777 replied to Lawsonmh15's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXJust to note, I put fresh coolant in when I finished my motor, and drained it after like 10 miles of driving.....there were particles in the coolant.....coolant's cheap, just put new stuff back in. But if you don't want to, yeah collect it in a clean container and dump it back in.

legacy reverse light switch
Legacy777 replied to yewman's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI'm assuming you have a manual transmission. The switch is along the side of the transmission. You can see a diagram here http://www.surrealmirage.com/subaru/files/swap/elect_unit_loc/6-3_electrical_unit_location07.jpg You can see them here http://www.surrealmirage.com/subaru/images/swap/14/DCP_3338.JPG

97 Legacy transmission compatibility
Legacy777 replied to jtlhome's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThere are several threads dealing with this. Please try and search. Basically, you need to match the rear diff ratio with the front. Other then that, most newer non-vtd type subaru transmissions should work

Rust proofing
Legacy777 replied to gsp4's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXElectrical device for rust proofiing? Can you provide any info on this device? Rectifiers and sacrificial anodes are used for underground pipelines, but I don't see how that would work for a car.......

Legacy 90'-92' Questions
Yeah I'd agree the first gen 90-94 legacies were some of the best built cars subaru made. As for differences between the 90 & 92 model years.....and is it worth the extra cost.....probably not. In the states, about the only I'd prefer on the 92-94 model years is the headlights. But overseas should have gotten the better headlights on the 90-91 MY's. If you're looking for specifics on the first gen legacies, you can check out www.bbs.legacycentral.org Tons of info there.

tranny compatibility...
Legacy777 replied to dolehendrix's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThey should be. The info I have says the digit that changes indicates the year it came out of. For the first gen legacies 1 was the first year, indicated 1990. In 95 when the 2nd gen came out, A probably indicated the first year 1995, B would probably indicate 1996....etc. So assuming Subaru kept the same decoding scheme, and they didn't change anything between the 95 & 96 MY's, the tranny's should be interchangable.

'91 legacy heater fan works on high only
Legacy777 replied to saw's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXRemove the glove box. It's two screws and when you do that, you'll be staring at the connector for the resistor pack. It's the thing in this pic. http://www.main.experiencetherave.com:8080/subaru/images/accomp/DCP_2945.JPG remove the connector, and two screws. Pull it out and swap it for another one.

Passenger side view mirror question - 94 legacy
Legacy777 replied to spideyz's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI don't think you can replace just the mirror. Just look for someone parting out a first gen legacy, and have them send ya the whole mirror part. Blackbart (Frank) has a lot of parts and may be able to help you.

buying 98 OB with synchros prob?
Legacy777 replied to bustedbolt's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXFluid change may cure the syncro issue. I had a turbo legacy tranny rebuilt before I swapped it in, and I still had syncro grinding issues. I've played around with fluids and the fluid definitely makes a huge difference. Redline lightweight shock proof would be the stuff to run on a problem gear boxes. Right now I'm running a cocktail of 1qt redline LWSP, 1qt of pennzoil syncromesh, and the rest swepco 201 (80w90). I just changed it last weekend, and so far, things seem pretty good, and no grinding.

98&newer AT into '93 Legacy???
Legacy777 replied to Mike W's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI don't know what the final drive ratio on the 98 is, however the 93 AT's had a 3.90 final drive ratio for the AWD's. So if the final drive ratio is different you'll need a matching rear diff to swap over as well. The drive shaft length is the same. I don't know when the transmission style/phase changed, but when it did the electrical connector changed. There were some additional pins/control items on the newer transmissions. Also, I believe the newer one had a speed sensor in the transmission, rather then a cable driven dash speed sensor, which was found on the older ones. The newer transmissions could probably be made to work, but I would not say they are plug and play.

First post in new gen
Legacy777 replied to EA82Turbo's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXSounds like you have a pretty decent setup as is. The AWIC setup is pretty good. Unless you want to put a front mount intercooler in, I'd stick with the AWIC setup. You could add just water and redline water wetter instead of an antifreeze/water mix. That will help improve the heat transfer capabilities. I'd suggest checking out www.rslibertyclub.org/forums & www.bbs.legacycentral.org Tons of info there on mods and other goodies.
