  1. Its possible the axle off the 87 could have a CV joint on the outside instead of a DOJ. Then again, I dont know if the length, thickness and splines are the same either. I do think the swing arm from the Hatch will work, if its a EA81 Hatch, and 4wd.
  2. I would take the money and use in on the projects I have now
  3. http://home.earthlink.net/~turbone/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/subarinoshatch.jpeg But this wont fit on your RX. Go to subiegal , she has a light bar with PIAA's, plus there should be links to others.
  4. Just back a few months ago I got a whopper. 87mph in a 70mph zone. Cost me $100 in court costs. Northguy, you may want to look at the calender for next month :-p Oh, and sorry for the H/J :-\ 3.90 gears make for a higher rpm, the 3.70 is better for hiway use.
  5. Look on Ebay or ask in the Marketplace. I'll have to look for the pics, I might have to take some new ones.
  6. It will release any exhaust that is backed up by the cat. If there is no change in the way it runs, then the cat is not the problem. Like I said in my first post, there could be other issues here. You severely abused the car and if you didnt also blow a head gasket, I would be real surprised. A compression test will tell you if there is a HG problem. Check the oil for moisture, and the coolant for oil. These trannies are notoriuos for going dead, so this could be another problem. So you have your work cut out for you.
  7. I've driven the car to Portland and up Snoqualmie Pass before, it will make it to Whidbey. As far as I know, you wont need a welder, there wont be a carrier bearing becuase of the shortness of the driveline. You may have to have the shaft lengthened tho, I think the 5spd 4wd tranny is actually shorter. As for HTKYSA, its no good for a job like this. Its just the basics on the mechanics. If you could borrow a FSM, or ask in the marketplace if someone has one for sale it would be alot more help.
  8. Without doing drastic drive train changes, you could put on some 15in Pugs. This might help a little.
  9. You can pull the O2 sensor out and that will also tell you if the cat is bad.
  10. Well, the FSM says they are leading rods. These and the sway bar bolt up to the mount, which in turn hold the tranny x-member. These mounts are different for the AT's and MT's. Its the easiest thing to over look, and the worst to leave out.
  11. GD, I think you corrected me on the terminology before. Qman called them strut cap rods, and ever since thats what I've called them.
  12. You may want to try and use a cable setup. Its not been done here, to my knowledge, so you may look in some other forums. Maybe get a shifter linkage from a AT and see how long the stroke is.
  13. Ok, well. That answer helped with the last question Theres 2 buttons on the shifter. One is for taking the shifter out of park and reverse, the other is for 4wd. Like I said in my PM, the necessary parts are in the link I sent you, but I dont think theres a guide for a AT swap. But the rest you need to know is there. The 2 pieces that the tranny mount connects to are called the strut rod caps. Got to have these to mount the tranny x-member to. Theres supposed to be a small wrecking yard in Anacortes, he should have lots of donor parts. If you need the # and addy, let me know.
  14. ???Thats a confusing question...If you change the tranny to a 5spd, the indicators on the panel will mean nothing. There should be a 4wd indicator there that needs to be wired up to the tranny tho.
  15. If there is a lack of air coming out of the pipe then it could be plugged.
  16. What kind of exhaust are you running? If you got it that hot (there could be other issues here also) I tend to think the cat might have fried.
  17. I would say its due for another tune up. Among other essentials would be a fuel filter and PCV change. I have never heard of this "glitch" before. But Soobs can be tempermental at times.
  18. Yes, but the top corners might be a hair different. I have done the same replacement, but going the other way with years. Your corners might be sharper on the glass, but should fit. If you can, try and set the new glass on top to see how the fit is.
  19. This would be great. I've been wanting to see something like this for years, every time I go into the store all I see is "other" import stuff. It would be nice to see what FHI is coming up with, and to have news thats new, not old hearsay stuff. But seeing how its only 64 pages, thers isnt going to be alot of room for extensive tech write ups. A couple of featured car right ups will be nice, in old, new and just released generations. Keep us informed
  20. If the car has been abandoned on her property, its her car. I'm not sure about the laws in Oregon, but thats the way it is in Wa. She may have to sign a release, or file for a salvage title. Best thing to do is go to the Motor Vehicle dept and ask.
  21. Excellent work, again. Qman said you had something different going on, that was a understatement :-p Do you plan on bringing them both to WCSS6?
  22. In which car? Is it fuel inj? Anytime you smell gas, you need to check and tighten all your fittings. If a hose looks like it has any small crack in it you should replace it. This could turn into a real hazard, like in your Soob burning to the ground. That reminds me, do you own a fire extinguisher?
  23. I think you just got your self a new nickname. Salty Or maybe Capt. Morgan (you werent drinking when you did this, eh?) Yea, and the steering wheel (helm) was a neat touch.
  24. Different gear ratios would be a problem, but only for the diff and/or tranny. This shouldnt affect the axles. I think the mounts need to be looked at. And make sure there isnt anything binding up.
