  1. And dont forget you coated all the internals with oil also. It might still be burning that off too. Let it run for a while
  2. I would take Qmans advice. Let it run for a while, you may just have some old coolant in the exhaust still. Did you look at the heads when you had them off? Particularly between the valves for cracks?
  3. I vote for a EA82T GL-10 Turbo Wagon I'm biased
  4. Permatex copper is what I used on my EA81T. Looks like I'm going to use it again. Thanks for the input everyone, pro and con.
  5. I'm putting new head gaskets on a EA82T. Whats the general concensus on using a gasket sealer when doing this? I used the spray on copper stuff for a EA81T before, and didnt have any problems. So has anyone else used it?
  6. Thats what I assumed you used. Just was wondering if there was enough room. Good to know it can be done.
  7. How did you line up the clutch/PP with the pilot bearing?
  8. There is only one fuel filter, its behind the drivers side strut top. Try releasing the gas cap. Really. See if it runs for more than 30sec. If the pump is cycling and you have pressure past the filter, something else is going on. The blinks come in 2 different lengths, short and long. You may want to recheck this.
  9. I would check the compression and stuff before tearing out and swapping the tranny. But any excuse is a good one to do it.
  10. Ha, thankfully theres only one of me
  11. I might also add, was the fuel filter changed?
  12. Well, he better know how to work on it now. Without asking to many questions Glad you got a nice one.
  13. You might want to go over to AuSubaru . They will give you a better idea on cost and labour.
  14. Its possible the axle off the 87 could have a CV joint on the outside instead of a DOJ. Then again, I dont know if the length, thickness and splines are the same either. I do think the swing arm from the Hatch will work, if its a EA81 Hatch, and 4wd.
  15. I would take the money and use in on the projects I have now
  16. http://home.earthlink.net/~turbone/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/subarinoshatch.jpeg But this wont fit on your RX. Go to subiegal , she has a light bar with PIAA's, plus there should be links to others.
  17. Just back a few months ago I got a whopper. 87mph in a 70mph zone. Cost me $100 in court costs. Northguy, you may want to look at the calender for next month :-p Oh, and sorry for the H/J :-\ 3.90 gears make for a higher rpm, the 3.70 is better for hiway use.
  18. Look on Ebay or ask in the Marketplace. I'll have to look for the pics, I might have to take some new ones.
  19. It will release any exhaust that is backed up by the cat. If there is no change in the way it runs, then the cat is not the problem. Like I said in my first post, there could be other issues here. You severely abused the car and if you didnt also blow a head gasket, I would be real surprised. A compression test will tell you if there is a HG problem. Check the oil for moisture, and the coolant for oil. These trannies are notoriuos for going dead, so this could be another problem. So you have your work cut out for you.
  20. I've driven the car to Portland and up Snoqualmie Pass before, it will make it to Whidbey. As far as I know, you wont need a welder, there wont be a carrier bearing becuase of the shortness of the driveline. You may have to have the shaft lengthened tho, I think the 5spd 4wd tranny is actually shorter. As for HTKYSA, its no good for a job like this. Its just the basics on the mechanics. If you could borrow a FSM, or ask in the marketplace if someone has one for sale it would be alot more help.
  21. Without doing drastic drive train changes, you could put on some 15in Pugs. This might help a little.
  22. You can pull the O2 sensor out and that will also tell you if the cat is bad.
