seattle 2 Wcss6 caravan
Turbone replied to SuperRallyRoo's topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
Maybe meeting at the Malls on the way down is a good idea. That way others can meet and wait for the rest of the groups coming down. Although SouthCenter is north of me, Tacoma Mall would be better, and its also off of I-5. Theres a few of us going that are south of Seattle and that would be a better spot for us. -
I didnt buy mine from Ebay, but I have a cover on my 84 T-Coupe. These should fit your Brat with no problem, and they give you a lifetime warranty to boot The price isnt bad either, $30 is common.

The FP should be under the car in front of the right rear tire. It sits on a little platform to help protect it from road debris. Theres alot of places you can get the FP, so prices will vary. I cant say how much because I have never had to buy one. The reason your key wont work is because when the slim jim unlocked the door it also removed the rod that controls the inside lever to the lock. Its easy to put back on, just remove the inside door panel/arm rest/inside door handle cover and slip it back in the clip. I would probably be most concerned about the timing belts. They must be replaced every 60,000mi, and by changing them you will have peace of mind knowing they are fresh belts. If they do break, it will not harm the engine. But it will leave you stranded untill replaced. Not a hard job to do and I think its in the on line repair manual. Welcome to the Board.

EA82 Power Steering rack into EA81....
Turbone replied to GeneralDisorder's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I might be going to the yard (very early) Sunday. I know theres a GL-10 there (hopefully still), I got the digidash from it. -
I wasnt the only one with aggressive tires and I was planning on running Open but got in PGT. They also changed the course 3/4 times that day, it always changes the times after that and each class will have different times. So I dont take much stock in total times for all the cars, just in class. But it was a tough course, and I think most of us did pretty well. XNRG might have taken PGT if he hadnt hit that rock and broke a wheel

Addition to Subie collection...opinions wanted
Turbone replied to bigtrout's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Your better off putting a 5spd D/R 4wd setup in the car. You will need to install all the running gear anyways, and the MT is better than AT. There are plenty out there so its just a matter of getting your hands on one. But, if $ is a problem and you have no problem with mech'n go ahead and swap the AT in. -
Turbo ign rotor on nonturbo?
Turbone replied to DerFahrer's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Do you mean distributor rotors? If thats what they are, the turbo caps and rotors are different. -
Doh! But from the looks of it, it was off road(I also know this for a fact). Not real serious stuff tho, if I recall.

Question about Transmissions
Turbone replied to XT Fan's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
This is out of the 86 FSM. Its to big to post here, so I made a link to it. Output splines There is a difference in size between the MT Turbo and NA trannies. But I couldnt see any diff between the AT trannies. It would help to have them side by side to tell the diff, but I only have a 5spd S/R Turbo tranny. -
I think your asking for alot of headaches there. When I went through this here in Wa. I found out that the PVO had bought the car and swapped plates with another Soob that he owned and trashed. When I contacted the original owner, he signed a bill of sale and the car cost me nothing.

Question about Transmissions
Turbone replied to XT Fan's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Well, you gave the year and model, but not the tranny. If its an Auto, it could be the governor. Its an easy swap out, but if the gear in the diff itself is bad you will be looking for another tranny or diff. I would also check the vacume line going down to the modulator. If theres fluid it the line, its coming up from the tranny (which will make the car smoke). A swap out for the mod is also an easy fix. On a manual, it might just be the clutch, time/labor consuming but not too bad. Svxcess, thats a real good first post -
I "think" that if the car is abandoned on the property for 6mo or a year, the vehicle belongs to the prop owner. A trace can be done with the Vin # at the DOL, I think its around $10. Been there, done that, but it was 10+yrs ago.

Hey Tim, try and shoot for McChord or Ft Lewis next time, eh? -
Its "almost" a twin of Qmans old hatch. I'm already missing mine Looks like its going to be fun

Oh, and one last thing. Get a donor car. You will be much happier. This way you will not have to run back and forth to the JY to get parts you forgot
-
Also, (I bet you all didnt think I was going to say anything, eh?) you need to have the pedal box/clutch pedal, clutch cable, tranny x-member, leading rod/stabilzer bracket (this holds the tranny x-member, which is different on 2wd), the complete strut assembly and hubs (might as well, its all one unit). You need to cut out the shifter hole for the 4wd engage just a little and try and figure out the wiring for the trans ignition lock and light on the dash for 4WD. Did I leave anything out?

I dont claim to know all about AC, but if there is air in the system there is a sensor that will shut it down? You may need to purge the air out. But remember to read the disclaimer above.
