So My dad emailed me asking about a new Subaru model, for off-roading, to compete with Jeeps, and the like. I figured I or others here would be in the know for anything new and off-road subaru.. Mybe he's talking about the concept XV, which is just a lifted OBS. But a factory "lifted" OBS with 09-10 forester ground clearance numbers (i.e. 8.9") is pretty cool!!

 

Anyone know more?

With the CVT you wont need a D/R trans.

i hope they make the cvt strong enough. most do not like sudden jolts and will snap the internal chain on the cvt.

 

but, the diesel option sounds good.

i like definition. angles. lean and mean, not these shapeless blobs.

 

maybe the soft continuos curve of the roofline was just to make a stronger "egg" frame. a long swept curve is always stronger than a dozen sharp angles.

at least pound for pound. 80s volvos may be strong frames, but they also weigh more than a greyhound bus.

Off roading puts a lot of abuse on a transmission. Wheel spin, sudden grab, more wheel spin, repeat. Lots of running slowly winding up the TQ makes a lot of heat, etc.

Oh, it'll be fine for 99.99% of the population. Especially so for the next 10 years while nobody who's going to mod it seriously for offroad can afford one.

Well since I dont think there is anyone here that has bouyught a new CVT will know by then

i want the same package, with a pickup bed, dangit!!

 

it'd be like a bigger beefier brat, circa 2012.

 

but NOT a tiny bed, ala baja, ridgeline, or any of those other useless beds.

 

its gotta be big enough for being practical. 5'6" or so. like a brat.

I Believe one of the Reasons for the Delay of introducing the Boxer Diesel to the U.S.A. is the Many problems that Diesel engine has given, Many Premature Fails, as you can Read in this Forums:

Let me Translate a Couple of Posts from that Spanish Forums (using google online translator):

I have a problem with a Subaru Legacy Boxer Diesel, has 15 months with an engine failure at low and they could not find the solution, and they are laughing at me every time...
