December 15, 201510 yr Completed the fabrication over the weekend. Still need to touch up the fenders including painting. Test drive this afternoon was successful. No shimmy at 68 mph fwd, nor 48 mph 4wd.
December 15, 201510 yr Looks pretty interesting! Would you mind to share here with us, the specs of the Wheels and Lug Pattern you used to achieve this? Kind Regards.
December 15, 201510 yr Author Why? Why not? I've spent so much time on this barn find, I just had to make it a little different.
December 15, 201510 yr Pretty cool! Have any other pictures of the brat? Did it come with the cowl on the roof?
December 15, 201510 yr Author The cowl on the roof is just sitting there not yet fabricated to my specifications yet. its actually the front section of the topper I chopped off. I dont really think i'll ever wanna drive around with topper and it was just sitting in back yard so i decided to just kinda use it as a aerodynamic windscreen. If thats called a cowl...so be it
December 16, 201510 yr Your on the right track, here's what you need to complete your project: (listed in order of importance) 1. 5th wheel in the bed. 2. Smokestack pipes (with the rain-guard flappers or don't even bother) 3. Mudflaps : trucker girl or Yosemite Sam "back off" (either choice will work) 4. CB radio and fan (must be attached to the ceiling of the cab, no hiding it under the dash) 5. Peterbuilt, Kenworth, or Mack re-badging, (I'd go with Mack, and include the bulldog hood ornament) 6. Sidestep with boot brush (gotta keep your floor-mats clean.) Keep on truckin'!
December 16, 201510 yr Here's your hood ornament: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Chrome-Texas-Bull-Horn-Truck-Hood-Ornament-Bullhorn/121093244190?_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D34883%26meid%3De540d2a68dae465fa54f7684d832b86a%26pid%3D100005%26rk%3D2%26rkt%3D5%26sd%3D121817739034 Just add some chrome airhorns to the roof & call it done. December 16, 201510 yr Awesome, I was seriously just wondering if anyone had ever made a dually brat yesterday!
December 16, 201510 yr I've seen Dually Brats, and Dually Justy with Bed, before. Tons of Fabrication on that last one... Kind Regards.

December 16, 201510 yr Author 5th wheel would have taken too much room so instead, i installed a gooseneck with 2 5/16 ball that can be turned over to lay flat when not in use. I included a 6 way connection inside the bed, mostly due to new Texas laws which require most any trailer with 2 axles to have brakes. I chose electric brakes over surge brakes. I'm keeping a look out for a cool ultra mini travel trailer or maybe even a bbq pit trailer I can customize into a gooseneck trailer.
December 16, 201510 yr Author A few before and after shots of interior. I just got my hands on a dashboard with just 1 hairline crack. When I opened the box, the person that removed it from previous brat left all the instrument panels in it. Should be a challenge to install.
December 18, 201510 yr Amazing job so far! I always had the idea of a dually Brat project in the back of my mind but I hadn't gone for it yet, you did and it looks as good as I thought it might!
December 18, 201510 yr Author I really appreciate the compliments. Hopefully this weekend I can continue with the preparation of the flares before painting. Next few weeks will be cutting/prepping/mounting the "topper/cowl" and working on the brakes including pads up front. I'm optimistic about having this 1 1/2 project come to an end before Feb. But I will say this... after my wife saw the brat this week, she's asked me to look into making her Porsche Panamera into a dually as well.lol. I looked all over the internet for a gooseneck trailer with a deck not much longer then 5 feet and a single 3500# axle. It doesn't exist, much less one with a low profile. I'm waiting to hear back from a guy that can make a custom trailer so I could possible mount a bbq pit to pull behind the brat to tailgate parties, etc. This brat does have a bumper pull hitch but from what I hear, it has a 200# max tongue weight and rumor has it that Subaru suggested that this vehicle not pull a trailer. I guess they never imagined someone would mount a gooseneck hitch in the back.
December 19, 201510 yr I saw this VW Rabbit with a goose neck today and thought you might find it inspirational. Edited December 21, 201510 yr by jmoss5723
December 20, 201510 yr Interesting, I think I like it. I certainly commend your dedication to the mod. The interior treatment looks nice. I'd like to see some more pictures of the whole Brat. So what did you do mechanically? Not trolling for criticism, just curious.
December 21, 201510 yr Any thoughts about swapping in a modern Subaru diesel engine, I think it would be the perfect match! Something like this; http://www.subaruforester.org/vbulletin/1174868-post1.html
December 21, 201510 yr Author Nah. I think I'm just going to enjoy this car for as long as a year, then move on. The dashboard replacement looks like it's gonna be a bitch and I've yet to get to the air conditioning. For a long time I've really wanted to do a toyota fj40 or 60 project. Keep a look out. I might have this brat posted for sale any day now
December 22, 201510 yr I has gen one brat with Dually all the way around never took pic of it but it was crazy lookin and wanted to stear it way to the ditch
December 22, 201510 yr If you're only going to keep it for a year, why not just restore it instead of hacking it up to your personal tastes? Doesn't make a ton of sense to me, but it's your car...
December 22, 201510 yr Author Hacking it up? Everything I've done is bolt on and can be removed without attitude. The topper was not up to par. I salvaged what I could
December 31, 201510 yr Man... That thing rocks my socks. Ball park on what you'll ask for it? I need to start saving , seeing as how I'm right around the corner from you (Carrollton) and dont have a 1st Gen.
