May 24, 20178 yr Do any of the exhaust system patches work? There are many products, I am surprised in this day and age there are not products that would seal leaks. Are there any epoxies, wraps or other products that help that?
May 25, 20178 yr Only temporary. If a part is rusted through, a lot of other places are likely soon to fail anyway.
May 25, 20178 yr Author The pipe in back of the cat converters on my 97 Outback sprung a break; I picked up a couple high temperature fixes, will update on results. I'm sure industry has all types of fixes in addition to welding.
May 25, 20178 yr There is a foil tape that works. Hard to find, but that's about it.. regular " Muffler tape " and " muffler putty " don't work
May 25, 20178 yr I have used, to good effect: Aluminum duct tape backed by hose clamps (just make sure the clamp forms a 'heat sink' over the hole) small holes plugged with the white hardening sealant 1/2 sections of pipe (or bent sheet metal) over a blob of the sealant, held in place by hose clamps The small holes I've dealt with have usually been from a welded-on hanger ripping out. Good pipe around a rusty strip or hole the size of a dime or so.
May 25, 20178 yr Author I may try that but the pipe is tapered into the joint so unless the aluminum tape is formable, it may not be possible to get the effect with the hose clamps.
May 25, 20178 yr hose clamps and a piece of sheet metal work best as a patch lasts a while too but will eventually fail many months down the road
May 26, 20178 yr If it is just a hole in the piping then you can try a band clamp that you can get from NAPA or other auto parts stores.
May 26, 20178 yr I once used high temp furnace caulk in a tube. Odd location and not accessible as the defect was set back below a reinforcing plate where two pipes join so being able to squirt this stuff in was a real plus. It's been in there at least 2 years and is still holding. If you can lather some of this stuff on and reinforce it with some sheet metal and a clamp, you should get some mileage out of it.

Post on forums, in the parts areas, that you're looking and call places on www.car-part.com. Even if places don't list exhaust (some places may not list it) all you need to do is find some places offering parts from one of those vehicles and ask if they have the exhaust. For instance Look up an engine for your then call those places for exhaust. Two of my current Subarus have Colorado and California exhausts on them.
