since i put all this time into my subaru, i sure aint limiting my driving to offroad only. i want it to be my commuter too, and i like goin 100. and i live in minnesota where i will surely need to drive on the street in the snow, without fear of losing traction... so i've decided on some all terrains, instead of super swamper.:confused:

ps, if my assumptions about mud tires are unfounded, please, put me in my place.

i have been looking around at tires for weeks now.......what i have found is that if you are not going to be mudding all the time the cooper at's have an excellent track record.if you are going to be choosing one of the ones you have listed i would say go with the dunlops.......i hate bfg

I've run coopers on my f-150 for years, and they're an awesome tire. Good price too.

Coopers are good tire, but don't let the price fool you. Just because BFGAT are more expensive doesn't mean they're not worth it. You pay for what you get. And a lot of people I know roll on BFGoodrich all terrains. And I bet they'll last longer than the coopers.Just my .02 cents.

I second the BFGs. Its what I put on my Mom's S10 4x4, and up until last year, thats what I ran on my Bronco (usually some cheaped out mud terrains tho). Got Goodyear A/Ts on the subie tho.. bias TSLs coming soon!

 

edit: nevermind. I take back what I said about M/T tyres. Just sunk in that you're in MN. Mud terrains suck in ice, but are awesome everywhere else. In MN, I can bet you encounter some serious ice in the winter time. <end edit, resume post>

 

But theres just something about the low speed vibrations, and the high speed hummmmmmm that makes the girlies go ooooohh!.... :headbang:

I commute with my interco Trxus tires, and 4x4 the piss out of em too. They are very quiet onroad and rule offroad. I mostly do highway commutes at 70-85mph/110-150kmh. If you were interested in SS's then these might be the ticket for you, a very capable offroad tire and good tread life onroad too.

I looked at those too, for my 87 Wagon. I went into Firestone to look at some ATs there, and ended up with these...

I've had the BFG AT's in the past, and they didn't last me very long with a lot of hiway driving....

i personally wouldnt get bfg at's they are way to soft so they get chewed up very quickly with street driving especially if you like to drive fast and take corners fast, just my .02

cooper has always beeen on that same level as general, as far as i have always thought.

Alloys, eh. I'm looking for alloys for my ru but it ain't easy finding 15x6's with 3.5" backspacing. How much offset do your alloys have?

as far as i can measure. it has 4.5 inches to the outside of the rim. if they measure at the bead, its about 4 inch.

i measured from the mounitng point on the hub, to the inside of the wheel.

and they are 7 inches wide. i think they have one less inch of backspacing than my pug alloys.

forgot to mention before i ran one set of at's a while back that were tough as hell. ill have to dig through my old pics to see the name of them for sure, but i think they were plainsman rt's, they have almost the same exact tread pattern as the bfg's. when i ran them on my lifted astrovan they lasted at least 3 times longer than the bfg's did

actually the compound on bfg ats and mts are rock hard! Its probably the thin but tall tread blocks on the ats that causes the chunking. Seriously, there arent many off-road tires as hard as a bfg.
