*NEW* DONE!! Sedan tail lights onto Hatch (completed pics)

Featured Replies

Most of you might think im crazy but it was my only option... I have an 83 Hatch and im locatied in Australia. Meaning i have one of maybe 5 subaru hatches in the whole country.

My rear lights where busted when i got it and there being no replacements anywhere in Australia i underwent the mission to mount sedan tail lights to the hatch. It took a while...and it didn't really work out as good as i wanted it to but im still happy with it.

Pics can be seen at the link below. Let me know what you guys think.

Yep, it does look like a lot of work, but definitely well done! :)

It will look a lot better when you paint it ;)

I have just finished painting it today... i will have some pictures up of it shortly depending on how much of it i want to put back together before i post more pics.

Yep, it's a righty, apparent by the photographic evidence.

wow, that looks great! better than the stock ones, i think, though I've never liked them anyway :P

i can't help but think that someone here would have probably helped you hook up with the hatch taillights if you'd wanted, though

Yeah i thought about getting some foreign assistance with getting some tail lights, but if they ever got damaged i would have been up for the drama all over again. Pluss if the lights were not in perfect condition by the time they got here i would need a new one due to registration laws here. One small crack and it wont pass licensing.

I heard rumours the hatch was sitting in a wrecking yard. i think your guys call them bone yards or something. It had been sititng there for 2 years rusting away untill i purchased it. I have had it checked and it is the only one that has ever been registered in Western Australia. Luckyly it has previously passed all the Australian complience standards. And yes it is RHD.

It was a lucky find... there are ALOT of australian subi fans that would love to get there hands on it.

Dave

I am impressed, good job.

Don't forget to post the pictures of the final product!

I was wondering if you'd care to pm or e-mail back and forth -- I have a couple questions on bodywork.

I once considered putting VW Scirocco tail lights onto my Hatchback, but I like this better since it uses Subie parts.

The paint job is now all completed... i will put some pictures of it completed in the next few days. I re-assembled the front end today... still have the back end to go. It looks great already and i still haven't put it all together.

Ma-fia : You can email me if you like at davem2000@hotmail.com

Im no professional with body work but after doing this i have learnt a thing or 2. Im sure there would be a body work export on this board some place that may be more suitable to seek answers from.

I am going to make this hatch the first and only modified hatch in Australia. I want to show everyone here what they are missing.

The mods i will be doing will include:

4wd Conversion

3 inch lift kit

Rear air shocks

Possible Bull bar

Roof racks with spotties mounted on them

27 inch tyres on 14 inch rims

Possible DVD player and TV screen

CD player + AMP + 15 inch sub in boot + 2 sets of speakers

Possible winch

CB radio + CB antenna

Custom rear bumper

Power Stearing

Engine: Either dual carb ea81 with ea82 5 speed gear box with dual alternators OR Possible ej22 with 4 speed AWD Auto gear box.

It will truely be one of a kind in Australia and will surely turn some heads.

Dave

Chris
