  1. Received this from Paul Eklund at Primitive Racing today: Here are a few things going on (FYI). trying to keep my former students informed on upcoming rallies..... Sunday Sept 17th, ORG event at WA County Fairgrounds www.oregonrally.com Sunday Sept 24th Primitive Rallycross event at Washington County Fairplex in Hillsboro. I plan to run it like I did the Mt Hood Subaru Show RallyCross with pre-paid run cards and no run groups. Worked pretty well. Just show up between 8am and noon to buy a run card. See the attached FLYER (and print a few to give to those you feel might be interested) 3 runs for $20 or 6 runs for $30 This is in conjunction with my rally driving school that same weekend www.writerguy.com/primitive/nwrallyschool.htm Discounted entry to the school for all previous students. also Sunday the 24th, RallyCross in NWR (Brooklyn or Straddleline ORV or TBA) http://www.pacificrallygroup.com/calendar.html Sunday October 8th another ORG RallyX in Hillsboro www.oregonrally.com Last one of the season in Oregon! 2. Looks like the original was not properly cut. Glad it was resolved for you and thanks for posting a resolution. By the way, the locksmith I go to swears by Tri-flow lubricant rather than the graphite.
  3. Here's one for you locals around Olympia so you don't have to drive to Oregon for an event. Fun to run, sometimes fun to watch. Great way to avoid cutting the grass on Saturday! Schedule: - Tech Inspection and Registration: 8am-9am - Driver's Meeting: 9:15am - First Car Out: 9:30am Cost: $30 for all entrants (includes admission to the ORV park) After tech inspection, please go to registration to obtain your timecard. There is only one session scheduled for this event. Worker positions will be assigned at the driver's meeting and the entire group will be split into run/work groups at that time. After the parade lap, those working first will go to their worker assignments. Those running first will put their cars into the grid to prepare for their first run. Helmets are required (Snell 95 and newer rating). Loaner helmets will be available at the event but in limited supply. If you're unsure about what class your car will run in, please read the Rally Cross rules. Spectators: The ORV park charges $10 per car for anyone entering the park. If you're interested in spectating, try to carpool to minimize costs. If you know someone competing, ride along with them. There is a concession stand on-site, so please bring cash for lunch.
  4. The one time this happened to me with my EA82 wagon, it took the AAA guy over an hour to give up and call in and ask for how. Turns out the Sube wagons couldn't be opened with a slimjim on the front doors; the trick is to use the slimjim on the rear door; he had it open 5 minutes later. My solution: I wear a true keychain around my neck at all times with spare keys for all our cars. Since I started that, I've never locked myself out of my car.
  5. Wow, that's steep; went to Eastside Subaru in Bellevue and had it done for $6!

  7. That's the page! Maybe we should put it in the USRM for further reference. Thanks Turbone.
  8. Somehow I remember that ALL turbos had the 25 spline DOJ, automatics too. I don't recall that the CVJ was different. The different axles can be identified by one, two, or three raised rings on the shaft nearer the CVJ; unfortunately I can't tell from the pic in the ebay listing since it's too small. Anyone with an '85 or later FSM that can look this up for us? I know I've interchanged 2WD and 4WD axles on my Brat without problems and I suspect the same would hold for the EA82 cars.
  9. I might be mis-remembering and I can't check this since I sold the shop manuals for my '86 wagon a while ago, but I believe the shaft diameter is heavier for the 2WD; don't ask me why. Spline count is only different for the turbo axles (25 as opposed to 23 on the DOJ end). Something funky about the axles for an automatic also, but I can't remember what that was. If someone has a OEM shop manual for an EA82 car, it's pretty well spelled out there.
  10. I work in and around the UW all the time and there are certainly a lot of Subaru's in the parking lots. Drop me a PM and I'll leave you my cell # and maybe we can have lunch in the area.
  11. EA81 stock: 55A max. EA82 stock: 60A max. XT6 stock: 90A max. All of them will fit your car; I believe you'll have to change the pulley on your XT6 alternator to fit the belt. Just a thought, check the current draw out of the battery with an amp meter and the ignition off. It could be that you have something else draining the battery. Will your battery hold a full charge? Lastly, it could be that you don't drive enough to put back what you took out of the battery starting and running for short periods of time.
  12. No need to be sorry; what's a little hi-jacking between friends. I'm getting my Toyota friend at work who's well into 4x-ing interested in getting out with you guys. He was literally drooling over the mudpit videos at WCSS8. Keep me informed and I'll pass it on to him.
  13. I'm beginning to wonder about the incompetence of the WA state emissions testing. My son took his '96 Impreza through today. He didn't see the guy put the rear wheels on wheel chocks and wasn't paying attention when the guy put the car in gear on the dyno. After about 30 seconds the emissions tester realized something was wrong, took the car out of gear and finished the test. Car passed, but James says the car "behaves funny." So what are the symptoms of that type of abuse? With a holiday weekend coming up he can't follow up on this until Tuesday.
  14. Be careful what you wish for, it might come true! September is going to be interesting: Rallycross schedule: With the post-phonement of WW, there's a PRG rallycross at the ORV park on Sept. 9th. Scheduled rallycross by ORG on Sept. 17th at Hillsboro, OR Rallycross by PRG at the ORV on September 24th. Rallycross School by Primitive Racing at Hillsboro including a rallycross on Sept. 22, 23, and 24 There's a double rallycross weekend at the Mt. Washington Lodge on Vancouver Island on Sept. 23 and 24th   Well, there goes my rallycross budget for the year as well as my "honey do" list is just shredded.
  15. A little early, but never too early to make plans. http://www.subiefest.com/
  16. You know, it is a West COAST Subaru Show. Next year it might be in California.
  17. Check with bratsrus1; he had custom axles made by CV axles of Ocala.
  18. Hondasucks was there; I spoke to him at the mudpit.
  19. Sorry all I get from this link are non automotive videos; do I need to get deeper into it to find monstaru's run?
  20. I second that (i.e. timing belt change). Since both cars are interference heads, timing belt is definitely overdue if it wasn't done recently. Also, with this mileage, water pump should be changed since it's unlikely to last until the next timing belt replacement.
  21. It was a great time; anyone else up for doing the work of getting it done for next year? Hood River is a great location and seems to work for most of us. Any Oregon folk up for continuing a great tradition?
  22. Not true, I saw a red one roll in yesterday but didn't have my camera in my hand at the time. I'll get him today.
