  1. Anyone know what the normal rear end ratio for a '97 Impreza wagon with manual transmission is? Also, was a VLSD or LSD an option on the '97 model? Thanks to anyone who can point me to the right documentation.
  2. Does anyone have his 'phone number? I'm looking to get in touch with him before he returns home this weekend; I have an XT6 hood for him. PM me with a 'phone number for him if you have it. Thanks.
  3. If it doesn't have a weber yet it could certainly use it. The difference in low-end torque and driveability is significant.
  4. I was wondering about the six run series when one paid for either 4 runs or 7 runs. Sounds like you might be ready for some engine modifications.
  5. The 5 speed '93s are pretty rare; I'd jump on it; see my other comments in the thread I posted. Check out the scores for the 2006 rallycross season; I finished 6th for the year running against mostly EJ22 and EJ25 cars in the PA (prepared all wheel drive) class. Car doesn't have problems keeping up; not doing better is all my fault. http://www.oregonrally.com/files/RX_Points_2006_Final.pdf Indidual times for each event can be found under rallycross results at http://www.oregonrally.com/rallycross.cfm
  6. I've got an '94 Impreza with the EJ18 engine. Rock solid and likely less to be prone to head gasket problems due to the smaller bore. I have 130K on mine and the only difference compared to my EJ22 cars is slightly less low end torque but it's an engine which revs up much more quickly. Once you're in the higher rpm range, the car can really move; I have trouble keeping it from hitting the rev limiter at 6000 when I'm really on it during rallycross runs. The "slow" feeling you have might be due to your tires/wheels. I got mine with 16" low profile tires and it was a "stone"; it didn't get much faster with 15" tires. With the stock 14" tires and rims the car changes personality completely. I also get 20 to 30% better gas mileage with the EJ18 over the EJ22. All EJ18 and EJ22 engines up to and including 1996 manufacture are non-interference. 1997 and later are interference engines.
  7. If you have the alloys, you'll find the lug holes don't have a steel insert. Using "normal" lugnuts can wear out the holes causing the wheels to mount wobbly with age. Steel wheels shouldn't be a problem. The pug lugnuts are two piece and the threaded portion can tighten down on the contact portion without wearing out the hole un-necessarily.
  8. Can I ask a favor? Since rally is usually the total of all stage times, could you have another column for total times for 4 best runs? Thanks.
  9. Thank you for modifying the results so I can read them; also for organizing them into a sensible fashion. Results comfirm what I knew before; I've got some serious suspension work to do on the wagon before it will run as well (or better I hope) than my '94 sedan. Kudos to Craig for the great times running what I think was the oldest car in the event...an '84 GL wagon.
  10. You posted some impressive times for the event. I look forward to having another "northern" competitor in rallycross.
  11. Well, I'm glad it's not just me. Maybe it's a conspiracy to keep us "over 50's" guys in the dark. Well, I tried the same access on my older Pentium II computer and got the same flakey display with the bottem of the lines missing. I'll try the laptop next and see if it can "see" the results better. Same problem with my laptop.
  12. Somehow I can barely read the results; the bottem half of each line is missing. No, it's not me! Might be my computer. Anyone else have that trouble?
  13. Try running the fan directly off the battery; it could be the fan motor itself.
  14. We're working on the switch. My wife and I were talking about too many cars in the driveway. She noted that she only drives to work during the week and her car is unused during the weekend. My white Impreza is parked during the week and only goes out on occasional weekends. When I asked if I could rallycross her daily driver, she responded..."Sure, why not? Just don't break it!" So I'm trying it out and will likely make the switch. It solves the problem of updating the Sedan to an EJ22 and I can carry more "stuff" in the wagon. Lots of suspension work needed though. The wagon is stock and I barely had it under control at the rallycross. It was nice to have the extra torque but couldn't use it all because the car was so skittish. I'll likely put the sedan up for sale in February (it'll be "on loan" to my middle son while he's visiting us this winter).
  15. Matt, I have a few of your car; I'll get the CD to you when I can.
  16. Odd, I have a set of 14" alloys (not sure what they came off of) and they fit fine on my '97 Impreza. Sometimes you just have to try them to see if they will fit.
  17. There is a plethora of pictures posted by Ben Bradley of ORG who took some fine pictures. My Impreza is the blue one with the #044 on the side! http://www.benbradley.us/rally.html
  18. I had Block at just over 1:10, but the "official" time was just over 1:12. I didn't have a clear view of the finish line so I'd go with the official time. This didn't include any pylons he clipped (not sure of the first run, if any; but he wiped a number of cones on the second run). Ken and Zap were running in the 1:15 and under range at this point. (I stand corrected on Ken and Eric's times; obviously they know them better than I). Ken is also correct about the bead blowout; I had forgotten the incident because it was resolved so quickly. The "old guy" was Charles Morrill in a 2000 Legacy GT (automatic!!). An exceptionally talented "finesse" driver who ran a 1:17 best time before the course was changed. I believe the changed course was a tad quicker judging from the times posted near the end. Not to take anything away from any of these drivers.
  19. There were a couple of bead blowouts, but not on qman's car. Too many people "airing down" their tires to try to get more traction; doesn't take much to pop a bead when that happens. I don't remember which car it was but I had either a pic or video clip of one car which a blown bead who continued to run on the flat.
  20. Find all the pics I took at http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/photos/showgallery.php?cat=931 I think this is Zapar driving qman's car.
  21. It was a great event and fun watching you and qman fling dirt around the course. I have a CD I can bring by with some pics and video clips (sorry, I'm too lazy to try to figure out how to load video clips). I didn't get as many photos as usual since I wanted to get all my runs in before I went out to take pics. I will try to post the pics in a photo album shortly. It was a great course and didn't have any of the major rock-a-dillos that showed up the last time we ran there. I liked that we ran all those cars there without once relying on a water truck!! After a weeks worth of rain and a few days to settle in, the conditions were just about perfect for a rallycross.
  22. Nature's way to remove odors: Cut up an apple or two into segments and leave on the floor on a paper plate or two. Removes the smell of mold, cigarette smoke, and probably anything else. Much better than those crummy air fresheners which just try to overpower the smell with their own. Not a quick fix, but works just fine.
  23. If you can't find a dealer who can cut an original key for you, you can find one who'll do it mail order if you can prove you own the car. Also, if you remove the passenger side inner door trim and look at the key cylinder with a mirror and flashlight, you'll find the keycode stamped into the cylinder.
