  1. I've got to disagree with not hurting anything. If the tires are not all the same size you have the potential of locking up the transmission and not being able to get it out of gear. Been there and done that; fortunately nothing broke but the problem is quite obvious and it will force you to resolve the issue quickly.
  2. Under the steering column;remove the plastic shroud under the steering column and if you follow the wiring from the ignition switch about 6 inches toward the front, it comes to a pink (sometimes white) plastic connector with 4 wires in and 4 out. If the plastic is discolored in the area around one of the wires (turns brown and then black) it indicates a bad connection there and that will cause a voltage drop there which generates heat and causes the intermittant failure of the starter to engage. I've seen this on the early cars and on some of the early '90s Legacies. I've never seen it on a 2000 car as yet and they might have changed this connector but it's an area to look at in the event that getting a better connection at the battery terminal doesn't solve your problem.
  3. Which model and year Subaru do you have? Besides the battery terminal, there is a connector in-line with the ignition switch that will cause the same symptoms (i.e. intermittant not starting); this cause is not miles related but age related and shows up on the early '80's models and has migrated to the late '80's cars (same connector). They still use the same connector in the early Imprezas and Legacies. Off topic: My 10,000th post!!!
  4. Sign of an aging radiator is a steady increase in temp as your speed increases. The faster you go on the highway, the higher the temp guage will go.....time to think about a new radiator if that's the case. With a good radiator, the temp will stay rock solid at whatever the thermostat will settle on when it's warmed up. A flush helped (you have the data to prove it), but eventually the flush won't. In any event, I hope you got an OEM thermostat.
  5. Information from this link might be useful: http://wac.addr.com/auto/obs/lsd/lsd.html
  6. Sadly, the type you bought is prone to that. It's a matter of finding a quiet spot between radio stations to use it. Unfortunately, that spot changes if you're driving any distance at all. Return the unit. I had the same problem and found the best solution was buying a radio with built-in iPod capability. I've seen a number of these recently and they are in the $100 to $200 price range (or more). Buy the one with the iPod connector already installed and "iPod ready" not the ones where you need to buy an extra adapter for another $50 or so.
  7. Useful info for those of the LSD persuasion! I can't take credit for it, but also didn't want it lost. http://wac.addr.com/auto/obs/lsd/lsd.html
  8. I have one of the 3.545 LSD rear diffs. Still trying to find out what they are worth so I can sell it!
  9. Next event is July 13th. http://www.oregonrally.com/Event_Detail.cfm?EventID=553 RE-SCHEDULED Check www.oregonrally.com for updates.
  10. Sounds like MWE axles; I've ordered two from them and found them to be good quality and they are both working just fine in my cars. I've seen more positive posts about MWE than negative on the Board.
  11. More pictures are posted. http://www.shutterdriven.com/gallery/main.php?g2_itemId=12488 I like this one best since it makes it look like I'm really moving!
  12. Don't sweat the hanger; consider it a souvenir. Hope to see you again at the next National if we're lucky enough to have another one locally. You guys must have really hauled butt to make it home in under 48 hours. By the way, it came from Rallitek...coolest hangers I've ever seen.
  13. You did GREAT Aleana. Pics are up: http://www.pdxsports.com/photos/showindex.asp?page=1&folder=200806RX1
  14. By the way, did you see my TO times in the afternoon? Amazing how much I picked up sitting next to my son and watching what he and the Impreza can do.
  15. Craig, I think you're getting faster. I certainly hope I'm not getting slower!
  16. Max, a pleasure to meet you out in Hillsboro. You're a fine competitor and a class act. You certainly know how to handle your car and it's a screamer. Sorry we couldn't spend more time with you but I can understand the need to get back on the road heading home to the Denver area. Safe trip home. I hope you signed up for the Subaru contingency stuff.
  17. Next time I'm at the Smokey Point PAP yard (or any time someone local is there) check out the wrecked, white, '97 Impreza wagon. Pull down the head liner and see how the crossbars are mounted. No worries about trashing the car since it's already been pretty well stripped. I've got an extra set of roof mounted stuff and I can take a look at that when I get home later this week.

  20. First day's results are posted here: http://www.oregonrally.com/files/June_2008_National.pdf Lots to talk about; some good news:) and some bad news.
  21. Ditto for me too; Craig, maybe I can follow you?
  22. I agree with grossgary's suggestions: okay to drill out, re-tap, and replace bolt and okay to find a good used rack and install. A new, steering rack from Subaru is somewhere around $650 (I recently priced one for my '97 Impreza). There are two rebuild kits for the rack, both under $35 (discounted from a dealer). I got a known good rack and had it rebuilt and installed with new mounting bushings for under $150.
