  1. Very similar look to the Forester in the background. I like the color code, is that a red/orange?
  2. I think the laws state if the car came with them (meaning 85 or older Brat, not 86/87) the VIN door jamb plate says its a 4 passenger vehicle, and there is not a single thing saying you can't ride back there, with seatbelts buckled of course. You cannot legally put jumpseats in the back of a 86/87 and have that go as being legal, cause those the door jamb will say 2 passenger vehicle.
  3. Please state year of the car, but as far as I know, all Subaru power steering units are supposed to have ATF as the fluid.
  4. This will be my first post since getting banned. Last night I got home from work and finished bolting up the starter and exhaust from my recent engine pull and clutch replacement, along with a bunch of other new things: the list of new things: new oil pan gasket, valve cover gaskets, valve cover grommits, rear main seal, rear o ring seal to the flywheel off crank, resurfaced flywheel, new clutch disc and pressure plate, new pilot bearing new throwout bearing, oil pump reseal kit, new spark plugs, new plug wires. everything torqued to spec. I also blocked off the EGR valve with a metal plate, and installed new gasket to block for EGR. Also installed new hoses to the heater core. Clutch fork removed, cleaned inspected, regreased. Hill holder works, and no leaks. took it for a few spins around town to check and double check, then headed off for a 30 mile round trip drive. No leaks. PS, system admin, the Board system time is off 11 minutes. I have to get back to my post count off 1000 again. Hope everyone was well. I will add part numbers for everything tonight when i get home so others can do the same if needed.
  5. - white fine point permanent white marker for Flywheel marks I bought a new white tip permanent fine point marker, so i can mark my 0 and 10* marks. well, my dog decided to remove marker pen package (still in the unopened package)from my coat, and chew it up before i could even use it. hopefully i can salvage what's left to mark my darn flywheel -bad dog
  6. the RockAuto "engine mounts" i bought, are not engine mounts does not know what they are:banghead: so my engine is going back in with the old mounts. It will be the only thing not new on my BRAT. I wiped off all the caked on oil i could and they still look okay, just not new to my liking.
  7. i like that it was saved, but with what i have seen from out there, this one will be smashed by a tree, and then toasted. We dont have any of these around here, think about in iowa in those years, NOBODY bought subarus, we had like 1 dealer per state then, so there weren't any sold new, and now 20 years later, they are still not here. We ship them in. I would give 1g for this as is. but its a waste of your time to do so. so destroy it, and give us pictures. I am needing another guinness. i want a nice turbo brat ,will pay 8g or more if its nice.
  8. cool, keep the thing in one piece, start out the year slow, save the car, finish strong.
  9. i would just get a new bracket, used even better. don't really think the slide pins are normally a replaceable alone, meaning you are not going to simply remove it anyhow. They aren't threaded in if that is what you think. Its a press fit not to be removed
  10. maybe somebody came along and borrowed the gas out of the tank.
  11. brakes, not breaks anyhow an 07 with only 8k miles yeah, its not driven enough to keep the rust build off away from the rotors. need to drive it more, and eventually it will rub the rotors clean. I assume its noisy when applying slight brake pressure, or after applying the brakes. recommend driving it more often.
  12. This seems like a pretty quik build. Some people buy Polaris ATVs/ etc or the like, we just buy cheap soobs.
  13. do you put any lift blocks between the rear suspension arm mounts, that may be why the rear tires move ahead on your rig. if you drop the swing mount down too, it leaves the wheelbase the same as stock i do so believe, plus then the tire does not move back when compressed, it just simply moves up and down like stock. .
  14. My engine got stripped down today, rear main seal out, valve covers off, oil pan off, oil pump off and cracked as in I broke it upon removal. Remember next time to twist, not pry. Emergency trip to see McBrat, for a spare pump but got sidetracked by a very tall Red BRAT with huge 35" tires, subframe, solid axles etc. Then back to the whole reason, got a oil pump thanks to Mick. Was a nice sunday drive in the SVX. The only thing holding from going back together is the parts coming from Jason at Mike Scharff. If it gets here this week, then the BRAT will be back on the road Saturday/Sunday, with new clutch, new rear main new valve covers seals new oil pan gasket etc etc.
  15. thats a bit of tough luck but, maybe they tried to removed the bolts the correct way and maybe they broke due to being seized. Or maybe they did cut them, which is bad. I dunno, I would at least try and get a little money back from them for the time and pain.
  16. It is now registered, titled for Iowa 136 bucks and fitty cents.

yes take a pin out and the splines still allow the axle to turn. Why not smooth the splines on the diff stub one side and smooth the splines on the axle again only on one side, then put a hitch pin on when you need it locked, and remove pin when on the streets. A circlip could be used to lock the axle from following off when no hitch pin is in. brilliant pint of Guinnness now
  18. :lol:at least you know the door ajar lightbulb in the dash works.

  20. remember this is all done from the back side of the guage cluster after you remove it completely from the car.
  21. probably the O ring is mangled as well for the lower filler tube, since the bolt is broke allowing slop and movement in the filler tube base where it mounts.. its a generic oring. like 40 cents at hardware store.
  22. first off, don't take it to the same mechanic it has already been to. He doesnt know squat on this. Crank Pulley comes off, that mean crank gear sprocket could slip, jumping timing on a side or so. Yeah, the belts are on, but the belt has slipped on the crank sprocket, so it will still show okay on the cams sprockets, but its off time. duh. go to someone else. please
  23. nice except for the small evil R
