AWD and less then perfect tires
bheinen74 replied to subcyclist's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXPut some 15" 23 inch tall on the front and 17" 27 inch tall on the back and drive around in a parking lot doing some slow tight circles. NO. NO NO The tires have to be EXACTLY identical make brand size, wear. or put 15 inch on he right side and 17" on the left side.. NO NO NO scrap that too. read the owners manual or call the subaru dealer, you have to have identical tires all around on a AWD. I was not trying to be a prick or anything, kinda sarcastic humor but for sure the manual stated the answer.

My '92 Landcruiser: Safariwagon-II
I manage to keep all the following but only keep insurance on 2 at a time. 85 BRAT 94 Legacy Sport 91 CRX si 91 Civic Si I keep BRAT insurance year round, but do not drive it in snow or wet roads in winter when they are salted. From first snow to last snow i only insure the Legacy and the Brat; the only tires I own for the Legacy are snows, and i only drive the Brat when the roads are clear and dry, otherwise it is only Legacy. I have all season and i have snows for the BRAT in case i get broke down in the SS I have a Backup to at least haul my dogs if needed, like a vet trip etc. In spring i then drop insurance on the Legacy and start coverage on the CRX, and then in the fall i drop coverage on the CRX and begin to drive the Civic. Right now, i am going to be soon dropping coverage for honda civic and they both will get tucked in the far front of the garage until spring again when it is warm and now snow. The legacy has been sitting in the garage since April, in the front stall. I started it twice since then. It has a collection of boxes, parts on the trunk and hood and roof. It is due for a oil change, and tire pressure check but ready to be driven. Only have liability only on all above vehicles when i do have insurance. My agent is very good and i talk with her several times a season.. The reason I always keep insurance on the BRAT is i will not take my dogs in either Honda.

Re-Keying a '94 Legacy? (3 separate keys!)
bheinen74 replied to Red92's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI would try to have the dealer cut a key based on the VIN and see if that new key will work them all. You have to take your title and registration for them to prove you own the VIN being looked up. -I think there is chance that will open and work everything. If that is not the trick, then someone messed up the locks etc. I would probably then rekey the doors and rear hatch to match the ignition, or whatevr the local locksmith will do the cheapest. good luck though. jelllllous.

Looking at buying a 2000 Subaru Outback Limited
bheinen74 replied to Manarius's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThey leak, but at least they don't blow out like the phase 1 dohc. car is overpried by the 2g i mentioned. otherwise you buy the car at 6g, and spend 1700 to fix them, then you are looking at a 8g car already. that is 12 year old. way overpriced.

Looking at buying a 2000 Subaru Outback Limited
bheinen74 replied to Manarius's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXonly that it has bad headgaskets. If you can live with that cost fix and the selling price. to me 6g and no records of Headgasket replacement, on a car that has them fail 100%, i say 6g is about 2 g too high. unless records of HG replacement.

bheinen74 replied to Rooster2's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXomg, we tell people on here to only use OEM Subaru, and then why do we tell them. This is not even worth a rant on. you are not going to be lucky with anything felpro on ej25 dohc. end WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY not go with OEM...hello, did you read or search this? I am done here

CV joints keep going out.
napa axles are garbage. go with a better axle MWE, Subaru. etc and you will be done with all your axle jobs.. Sure they have a warranty, but the Napa axles are junky. The boots are much better on MWE or Subaru, and they will last.
-
Suspension Arm question
Why are you replacing axle 100 times? Something you are doing to the car or to the install is not being done correctly if you are doing them often. Or else you are putting in junk autozone/ advamce auto axles, those are junk.

subaru diesel
Numchux, i can see you making a wiring harness conversion from a newer EJ car for swaps

12v dash outlet in 96 Legacy Outback
bheinen74 replied to Murthius's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXFirst off, black is not always ground i will tell you that from experience. usually yes it is, but not always. Second. the cigarete lighter has power, ground, and it also has a lighted sorrond ring on your era car. The lighted sorround is tied into the dash dimmer circuit. I HATE when someone previously owns a car and install aftermarket radio. This is what comes from that. Too many hack shops, including best buy, car toys, and circuit city (closed) simply put, is TOO MANY HACKJOBS.

Labor cost for timimg belt
bheinen74 replied to lhrocker's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXgood price on labor for brakes and T-Belt, assuming he does know Subaru's . If he is not used to a T belt job on a Subaru, he may hose this up and worst on that is you are looking at pulling heads and getting new heads, or new valves. You have a interference motor, and if the Tbelt job is done wrong it is COSTLY>

KYB VS Gabriel VS Monroe
KYB whites shocks are the Gas Adjust version KYB Silver are the GR-2's And I will mention KYB Orange are AGX. I have had them all on various cars owned, and the Gas Adjust are much preferred to me.

SOLVED: Why is our 99 Forester drivetrain louder than our 97 Legacy?
bheinen74 replied to uniberp's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXimpreza is the budget low end car Subaru makes, yes not much for sound deadening in comparison to a Legacy or Outback. Forester is an impreza, lifted, it shared that same chassis. Cheap, and loud and built to stay that way......errr.

SOLVED: Why is our 99 Forester drivetrain louder than our 97 Legacy?
bheinen74 replied to uniberp's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXwow. Okay to start off, one is a sedan with a trunk lid / deckklid covering most of the back wheel wells. The Forester has basically in comparison, open rear wells to the cabin. I doubt you have the same make brand age of tires on both; Tires are a factor. What I have done, is to put a sound deadener in the panels of the Forester, and sound deadening blankets installed under both of the makes rear seats. Spray the wheel wells on the compartment area and the underside area with some 3m undercoating. Etc. So many factors at play here i cannot go further into detail. But you are talking open wheel wells vs trunk. You never said if your Legacy is a wagon or a sedan so i made some assumptions.

KYB VS Gabriel VS Monroe
My previous 94SS turbo wagon legacy, I had replaced all 4 dead stock shocks with KYB GR-2. Better than dead stock. Rescued a 83 GL wagon, and it had some newer KYB Gas adjusts on the back. Drove it and loved it, offroad, onroad, etc. Took it to KC and back 600+ miles, coming back with a ej22t longblock in the back, awesome ride even loaded. Just recently pulled off my lift kit on the BRAT which had Skyjacker rear shocks. Remembered the Gas Adjust ones from the 83 GL and decided to order them to go back on the BRAT. LOVE them. Awesome. Think much better than GR-2 which were no the TW wagon. I dont think they make gas adjust for legacy's only make Gr-2 for them. But they do make the gas adjust or Gr-2 for BRAT and i think the gas adjust is the better option based on 2 cars that have had them now.
