  1. simple green, and a sponge with scotbhbrite pad on the side to scrub the simple green, then wash it off with hose.
  2. thats the truth. A few years ago, some cities around here replaced the traffic stoplights with new LED versions. Well, you can't see the red and green in direct sunlight, and the places that converted have admitted that when its snowing, the leds version do not melt the snow off, and the lights cannot be seen. Its a traffic hazard going to LED on stoplights, same if you do your car that way.
  3. in 1995 and after, the stickers are no longer used.
  4. not as bright, cost LOTS more, and don't really last quite as long as they are advertised to last. test for you 2 do: go buy 2 regular bulb maglites of the same model number, and enough new batteries of the same brand for use in both lights at the same time. Buy the led updgrade bulb and place in one new unit, and new batteries then go out and test for yourself you will see.
  5. you might be checking the front diff, not the ATF level. The ATF dipstick is over on the driver left side, hidden away by the heater hoses and starter. The gear oil is over on the right side and a lot easier to find the dipstick. What side did you pull the dipstick from? oh boy.
  6. save up for the routine EJ25 headgasket job and all associated stuff. about 450-550 worth of parts by the time you figure new T belt, water pump, tensioner pulleys, valve cover gaskets, grommits, and the new headgaskets, rear separtator cover, and some cam seals. Labor is a lot too on top of just the parts price.
  7. what were the outside temps? frozen up carb maybe. do you have the heat pipe tubing duct coming up to the air cleaner from the right exhaust. Thats the preheater tube and keeps te carb from icing over in cold.
  8. you will just need to used several different punch sizes until you can get it hammered out. dont break off the punch in there..
  9. there are more subarus around here in the junkyards than maximas of that era, so its not something i can do when i cant locate a maxima alt. too bad, my Brat needs extra juice with the cyclps and hella updgraded lights
  10. RS 6spokes and the RS bumper cover, nice stuff. great looking car.
  11. i cracked a 1/2 mac ratchet gears on this, the little gear chipped. i cracked a 3/8 drive swivel from Home Depot and had it replaced with a different style. In the snow/rust belt we do break lots tools due to rust seize. you guys out west, probably dont have to break it so hard as us east of the missouri river where rust takes a cut on everything, vehicles, tools, etc.
  12. you need to go shoot that mechanic, he IS WRONG. tell him to go f somthing. serious, get a new mechanic, NEVER go to him again.
  13. just purchased silver. its for sale: needs working radio, a few odds and ends, and a emergency brake fix. already just scored a ebay 6disc subaru with cassette for bones. also has a borken end link for rear stabilizer. otherwise i got 28.7 mpg coming home with, its a 5spd.
  14. in 1990 subaru had a ipod front input on the factory radio, WAY ahead of any others. then they put a weatherband radio in, then dropped that feature too. lol
  15. my 03 Baja has no body rust at all, but has underhood rust stuff. I plan to wire wheel it and clear coat the stuff when cleaned. Its for sale too, but i need to detail like i said first.' its a indication of moisture, could even be flooded vehicle. title checks are for sure needed.
  16. that thing wont take off anything over 140 pounds.....not a useful tool, mine is for sale someone pay me 10 and pay for shipping.
  17. I think ABS has made snow driving impossible, ABS sucks and most people cannot deal with what it does in snow ice (put car in neutral, then brake) that extra step of putting in neutral is ignored 99.9% of the time by uneducated drivers using abs.
  18. do 2000-2004 legacy hoods interchange with 2003-2006 baja? i ask, cause if they made a scooped hood from a legacy ( i can find legacy parts junkers here, but NO baja junkers) then i want one for my baja.
  19. NEVER use a ratchet on a axle nut. Breaker bar with cheater pipe, 1/2" or bigger. NEVER try with 3/8" stuff. done. oh, and your jackstand is not located in the right place on the 90-94 legacy. the correct spot is the spot weld sicking down on the rocker panel about 3-4 inches back from the mudflap. you will feel the reinforcment rib where you need it go to. the place you put your jackstand is TOO narrow, it could slp off in the front or back.
  20. how about make a list of tools needed... go to pawn shop. searching out the most crappy looking craftsmans of those tools. crappy look will be dirt cheap. then go break them, and go to a sears store and they will give you new for the borked ones lol....
  21. After SVX sitting at hotel in WI overnight, temp was 20. started off, and about 2 minutes, in the speedo quit. Well, I read the codes from tcu and got 33 vehicle speed sensor 2. (went thru this ordeal on my old 94 turbo wagon when the speedo drive gear and speedo driven gear toasted up due to age) Today pulled out the sensor (its electric on SVX vs cable on the Legacy) The sensor was seized, could not turn with screwdriver tip. Next, pull this out f the top thats the speedo shaft, notice the bottomw twisted portion, yeah it twisted the mfer off. Guess what, gotta open the side bearing to replace that part. So i have on order from Subaru, new speedo shaft, new speedo drive gear, new speedo driven gear, and new oil seal for the cap. Also, getting a used speedo sensor from a SVXnet'r member I have offers on the car pending this fix. Will be 2 weeks til i get the new parts in. grr, not happy. what a STUPIC design subaru on the speedo setup both this and the legacy i have gotten burned. Guess, they dont design some stuff for 20 degree temps.
  22. those are going to be really a wide footprint of tread. Wide is NOT good in snow and ice for highway use. Narrow is lots better. not sure i would want to go the route your are taking. plus thats a low profile tire, not going to ride very well. do you live in a area of lots of potholes? if so, you may even damage a rim with that low pro sidewall if you hit a chuck hole in the road.
