  1. Kits are out there too. Be sure to read up on what I was indicating to you. I did not go into detail but assumed you would check and adjust the float. From your description I would say remove the carb and soak it, do it properly. And when you’re all done check and adjust the float. You’re likely going to remove the top cover more than once and the adjustment can be frustrating so go slow and follow the manual. Your carb kit will almost certainly have an instruction sheet which helps a lot. Good luck.
  2. Yeah I used to use duckbill pliers. Wasn’t easy but lead to success!
  3. It was idling well previously and nobody else adjusted the screw. Check the float bowl and clean the needle and float chamber well. The real way is to remove the carb and soak it , blow it out , etc. But if you just take the float chamber cover off and work from there you’ll likely be fine. Service manuals are out there online or hard copies.
  4. Goes on your socket extension https://shop.advanceautoparts.com/p/lisle-disc-brake-piston-tool-28600/25961363-p?product_channel=local&store=7676&adtype=pla&product_channel=local&store_code=7676&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI3f-y8-Xj7wIVypyzCh0bPAmCEAQYAiABEgKwmfD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds
  5. The PRP gasket no. WCR-288 is the one that fits 1972-79 cars Except Coupe. Also fits the Brat 1977-1981. For the Coupe there is a different part number. And the upper ears are a bit taller. That given , you can stretch and I think a small relief cut in each ear and make the standard gasket work for those cars. Not sure what you’ve come across. There are newer alternatives so maybe you’re seeing something someone came up with.
  6. Usual brain fog when I walked past my manuals. I’ll get that p/n for you next chance I get. Parts manuals don’t show up as much as Service manuals but they’re out there.
  7. Back about 1999/2000 I spent a good amount of time searching “elder” dealerships to inquire about any possible old stock for purchase and heard just too many heartbreaking stories about old stock being tossed. Literally missed large containers , before all these smaller containers were in the storage market and only huge containers existed or so it seemed , by as close as three weeks. Other dealers had purged months or years previous. That’s the life cycle.
  8. Parts catalogs getting that hard to find ? But just because we can dig out old factory parts catalogs doesn’t mean they still have the parts. Probably have those screws in my miscellaneous nut-n-bolt containers. I’ll post back later or tomorrow.
  9. You got a new windshield installed for around $250 ? Twice ? That’s amazing. I mean they are an easy install but still for the glass , gasket , and labor that’s a deal and then some.
  10. Install those dry. Smaller particle cork gasket is better but at this point you may just be happy with whatever comes. Soon I’ll be listing stuff for sale again including gasket sets. I also have just valve/rocker cover gaskets when I can dig them out. You’ll be fine for now. Payen is a good name from back in the day. Those kits still show up.
  11. Yeah looking closer appears to be sedan not hardtop.
  12. Be ahead of the game for the next production run. Somebody at the mfg. has to be aware of demand. This vehicle falls into a certain category. Classic not going away anytime soon.
  13. That’s a Hardtop not a Coupe. She sits a bit rough. Guys like me have the parts you would want.
  14. Tires are talked about now and then. I recall a recent post about what’s still available , which is slim pickings these days.
  15. From here neither if you want 100% originality. The white flat spoked wheel is the one you want. But from here that appears to be a second generation wheel with the slight radius at the end of the spokes as they meet the rim. The first gen wheels are really flat straight out to the rim. Nobody at a car show will likely notice or care. Those wheels may require a plastic ring retainer for the centercaps. Those rings seemed to be available still last I heard.
  16. Could have had slightly clogged jet and now clearing out some. Always best to soak the body and blow out jets. And the sight glass on the left side will show the float level if the glass isn’t fogged out. You’ve probably adjusted a similar float before. Easy but patience required at times.
  17. No switch on the clutch. It’s old school dangerous. My first guess would be float level.

  19. Spring primer !! Nice day yesterday , not bad today either but just not enough time yet. Soon , keep watching the weather for Milford CT. Make your plans , have your empty vehicle gassed up , pack a lunch or enjoy the multitude of eateries near by. If you dare you can check out a couple primer videos on face dook in the Classic 4x140 or GTFO group and also the Vintage Subaru Parts group or whatever it’s called. You’ll find it easily. I posted videos there just to raise awareness. Pretty soon I’ll have time and weather and get all the personal stuff out and expose the items YOU WANT TO SEE !!! Mask or no mask I am not paranoid as kind as we are all with common sense I see no issues. Make the drive. I know you’ll leave happy ! 1970’s new old stock and great used and a rebuilt 1600 in Crate from ATK , also a complete 1600 ready to drop in loaded with intake and alternator drop in and go. Fenders , some new , front valance new and used Brat and 4WD wagon , glass mostly NEW and yes a couple Used windshield front , also rear for wagons , solid Brat rear, rear quarter glass for HT and likely Coupe , door glass for sedans and wagons and more. Might have a new gasket still. I handled those two purchases we as a group acquired from PRP. So much more. COVID screwed now time to move on. I need to finally off this lot so DEALS WELCOME ON THE LOT. I was at $2800 for what I wanted to let go of which is like 98% of what I have. Otherwise stop on by.
  20. Segway from my last line above, these older wonderful rides deserve a logbook going forward. My suggestion to you and all with classics. Given most will be weekend only cars then as the Chinese proverb goes “no memory is as clear as faded ink” or something like that. Enjoy !
  21. To go about it like we all wish we could I’d say take each line off and blow it out in reverse into a catch can/jar. You’ll know what each line looks like then. Ain’t many of them. Won’t take too long. I’m sure you know this but best to get a clear view in all associated lines and components while you have the opportunity. Keep notes. The vehicle isn’t the only thing getting older.
  22. How did you deal with the tank lining ? Confident you got all the rust and rinsed it well ?
  23. No , the guys at subarupartsforyou.com are local to me down on the shore. Those guys in Canton I heard of but they’re upstate in a quiet town. I wish I lived up there but I’m on the populate shoreline. Weren’t there crossovers from a small Ford truck or something like that ?? Good luck on this one.
