  1. I am in Butler, about 30 miles South of Franklin. I just cut the tow hitch off my Outback...if it was still on and not cut in half, i'd offer my help (would a 2.2l manual tranny Outback haul a car?) Good luck finding someone.
  2. I really like the looks, and I am excited it'll be out for one more year in 2007...I might be able to get one then. Good luck with the new cars!
  3. edmunds.com puts it at: Automatic: 22 mpg / 27 mpg (US gallons) So, if you average 24MPG then you're doing good. Make sure you replace the filters, plugs, etc. There have been a few posts recently about getting better gas mileage...check those out.
  4. Odd...I figure the brakes would be the same on other models of the time. Pads at the dealer for my 96 Outback were in stock. It was like $140 for front and rear pads.
  5. If it is anything like the mid 90's Legacy then the high and low are the same bulb. You pull the plug off the bulb, remove the rubber boot, unhook the clip holding it in, pull it out.
  6. I also recommend the V-Grooves. The only reason I got them was because they were out of Iradium and Platinum. The V-Groove were $2 each and work great.
  7. Yeah, I should have asked this. I would think anything over 22MPG would be ok for your car. Drive slower, don't accelerate quick, etc. There are a few threads that people have given tips to increase fuel ecconomy. I will put the links below. http://ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=42416 http://ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=42405
  8. Check alignment and tire pressure. Run some injector cleaner. Change the PCV valve.
  9. I average about 24MPG. Sometimes it gets worse when I drive like a jackass, but lately i've been driving slow and smooth because of gas prices. New sparkplugs and wires, fuel filter, air filter, and PCV valve should all be changed regularly. Driving smooth. Accelerating slowly is good. Don't speed...go the speed limit. Don't leave your car idle when you are not driving. Run some injector cleaner to make sure there are no carbon build ups. That is stuff I do/did to get better gas mileage. Good luck!
  10. What are the numbers on the sticker of your MAF? I have an extra MAF out of a 2.2l that works fine. If you want it, make an offer
  11. I took mine out. It did nothing, and I did not want to risk my engine. I use Purolator filters (air, oil, and fuel.) They are cheap and work well. I don't have any personal experience with negitive effects of the K&N...but I don't want to risk it.
  12. Whatever you do, please don't put a K&N high flow filter in your new car. It does not increase power, and will allow more dirt and junk into your new engine. I am sure someone else will have some better solutions to add a bit more power...but there really isn't to much you can do that is not expensive. Good luck!
  13. CCRengines.com has rebuilt engines. I hear they are a great company. Check a local junkyard if you want a used engine. You might be able to get a nice one at a nice price. If you want another car, you could start parting out the current one to get money for a newer one. Good luck.
  14. I'd go for it. As long as the timing belt does not break, everything will be fine. And the chances of that happening if you change it every 100,000 miles or so are slim to none. Good luck!
  15. I might be able to have my debt paid down by 2007 and get a Baja! ...but for that money, i'd get something like a civic hybrid.
  16. My trouble with sears (not just car related) 1. November 2003. I was quitting college to work for a while. I applied online at Sears, and after the questionaire it schedules you for an interview. I go in for it, and no one knows what I am talking about. They look at me like I am insane. The lady at the desk is like 'yeah, we'll have someone called you' and she didn't even ask my name. This isn't a horrible thing...but just annoything. 2. January 2005. I get lazy and take my car in to Sears to have an oil change. They offer the free tire rotation, so I say okay. A week later someone points out that I am missing a lugnut. Either they didn't tighten it, or forgot about it. 3. Febuary 2005. I went to Sears optical to get an eye exam. The optician is about done, and tried to turn on her machine that looks at the retna. The light bulb in it is broken, but she said 'you don't need it.' Three months late I am diagnosed with a detatched retna, macula off, and need surgury. $30,000! Good thing I had health insurance through my job and only had to pay $1,000 of it. If they could have seen it was starting to detatch or getting weak in Febuary, it could have been fixed in a doctors office with a laser and I would not have had to miss three weeks of work and have surgury. I hate Sears...but I love their tools. That is the only think i'll buy there is tools.
  17. You mean the interference ones, where when you break a timing belt, the engine is messed up? 1996 and before EJ22 are great. Not to say later ones are bad, but if you happen to break a timing belt, you're in a bit more touble.
