subiemech85 replied to Rust's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
all signs point to REPLACE the WATER PUMP!!!!! '78 BRAT runs at one nedle width BELOW the first line, there are 2 in a narrow gap of mid-range, NEVER above 1/2!! whether it idles along @ 1500 for 4 hours continuous or drives @ 3600 doing 58mph for 3 hours continuous, it never budges above!! engine driven fan does a great job of cooling engine electric fan works great -

subiemech85 replied to subiemech85's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
NOT TRUE!! the '78 BRAT and '84 BRAT use the ROUND switch NO screw gen 3 uses OVAL switch WITH screw gen 3 OVAL switch WITH screw can be used after enlarging hole 16.25mm? 5/8 + reamer!, drilling hole for screw, and splicing wires :-\ atleast changing switches is easier now with newer parts -

What is this sensor, and do I need it? (ea82t)
subiemech85 replied to thecarman's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
it's better than just saying those pictures are crap, make my eyes hurt, require excessive scrolling to see the target, and take forever to download if they would have been shot at 35mm f/4.9 iso400 1/400 sec, perhaps with fill flash at proper distance and focus, and cropped to 640x480 the picture would be much better! these are approximate settings that shoulod be a good starting point for YOUR camera 564 kb is excessive! http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/specs/FujiFilm/fuji_finepixf470.asp exif data was not much help Exif/Make FUJIFILM Exif/Model FinePix F470 Exif/Orientation 1,top-left Exif/X resolution 72.000000 Exif/Y resolution 72.000000 Exif/Resolution-unit 2,inch Exif/Software Digital Camera FinePix F470 Ver1.00 Exif/Date-time 2009:03:11 20:12:37 Exif/YCbCr positioning 2,cosited Exif/compression 1,JPEG Exif/Orientation 1,top-left -

poor depth of field, lighting, focus, composure, exposure, image size it's not a sensor it's a solenoid cap the lines on manifold probably for EGR round white sensor is for knock control rectrangle yellowish coolant temp for computer -
Clutch adjustment 84 wagon
subiemech85 replied to Uberoo's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
seems to me you "adjusted" it the WRONG WAY screw on the nut TOWARDS the LEVER until there is almost no wiggle room when moving the lever front and back be sure the cable is pulled thght while doing this if excessively tight, it will either slip or not catch at all, or engage adbruptly at the TOP of pedal travel, opposite of your problem -
center bore looks awfly small!!

SINGLE range trans for sale, essentially the same as far as mounting and controls as far as you are concerned, the d/r 4wd lever attaches to the main shifter bracket http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=95103

Vintage replica heater and radiator hoses??
subiemech85 replied to moosens's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
don't use the braid kit "Vernon, I worked for Russell which also sells the hose covers and the other types of Race style braided hoses. Russell gave me all the hoses for my 71 Chevelle. I found that the hoses were scratching the paint. I also was more than tried of getting stuck with the braid on the cut ends as I was installing. The racer type of hoses looked better, but most cars I have seen look good when you first install, then look bad over time. Dirt gets inside the braid and is hard to clean. The braid also looses that nice shine it had when new. The hose covers are the cheeses things I have ever seen. They are made in China. All braided hose company are selling the same ones, just under different company names. This is the hose covers only. The other type of braided hoses are purchases from somewhere else. Sorry Russell but....." snagged from http://www.mail-archive.com/chevelle-list@chevelles.net/msg15515.html look for textile braided hose http://www.italiancarparts.com/parts/lanciaparts.html http://www.tomyang.org/cars/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=2658 http://www.pixtrans.com/products/industrial_hose/industrial_hoserange/pix_industrial_hosesrange.htm#low_pressure_textile_braided -
the dark side was referring to datusn boys taking OUR LSD for THEIR DATSUN datsun lsd info http://kmhafer.datsun510.com/Subaru.htm IF you break a driveshaft, remove it and run in fwd until a replacement is found you are more likely to roast clutch or break axle IF you move engine back, it is alot of work to keep everything else working, trans tunnel ENLARGEMENT, FRONT axle life, shifter position totally a guess here, 1ft+ difference as the 5spd d/r has metal tube system to run the shifter whereas the 4spd d/r and s/r the shifter is mounted on part of the rear extension refer to http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v237/wolfmangk/0309091212a.jpg also read http://www.ausubaru.com/forum/showthread.php?t=12719 you will see the tube type shifter d/r dual/range also look at the attached pictures crappy quality - bean 5mp - definately not nikon d60 with nikkor micro lens :-\

the dark side http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=96378&highlight=dark+side front dif locker http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=49241&highlight=front+locker another reason for the d/r 5spd the d/r 5spd is SHORTER, which needs the LONGER driveshaft as far as installing gen 3 5spd d/r in a gen 2 brat, simply install the matching trans and drive shaft and it will bolt in, no shrinking or stretching you can start off with fwd until the driveshaft issue is sorted out another "bonus" is fwd low your rear tires will not be happy at you and will make a bad feeling, some people remove a rear axle for on road use with welded rear, another reason for LSD http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=33392&highlight=turn+trail you want the d/r 5spd and ea81 or ea82 either engine can have SPFI IF you want to work for it http://home.comcast.net/~trilinear/EA81_SPFI.html http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=95298&highlight=spfi+swap yes, more pics of topper and brat, underhood, trans shifters, hitch, heater and vent duct airbox, better pics of stripes - best style so far!!
