  1. OK...trans filter/screen was OK and the oring was fine. TransX....no results. Interesting though...when this transmission is COLD, it engages and shifts OK. Hmm. So that means something I would think. When it warms up delayed engagement at every stop. Question.... what transmissions will easily swap into this car besides the 90-91? (91 Legacy 2.2 FWD LSi) Thanks!
  2. If anyone happens across a two wheel drive wagon, I need a good gas tank. (LATE 1977, 1978, 1979 stage 2) The sedans, coupes and hardtops will not work. (Their tank is behind the rear seat). The 4wd tanks also differ from the 2 wheel drive tanks. Will pay you, for the tank and for the transportation. (Dallas, TX) Tanks! (pun intended) Todd
  3. I need FWD only. Not AWD. The reason is increasing "delayed engagement". The trans is slow to engage in "D" or "R" when warm. (It seems to engage normally when cold). Also, when taking off from a dead stop, it delays engagement again for a second, until the rpms raise and then engages. (slip). Once driving and the rpms are up all is well. Never slips and shifts fine. It leads me to believe it something to do with pressure leakdown. No rear diff to worry about.
  4. A board guy has a 1996 FWD Legacy auto. I might pick it up from him. So will this work "plug and play" in a 1991 FWD Auto Legacy? (Wiring harness and speedo) I'm curious if the 96 tranny is an sensor driven speedometer, or cable....like the 91 is. Thanks!
  5. The windshield from a Gen 1 wagon or 2/4 door sedan are the same as a Gen 1 BRAT. The GF front glass is the only different one. The front bumper on the BRAT is not shock mounted, but it is the same bumper itself. just a bit longer. The doors from a 2 door sedan, coupe or GF will fit the BRAT too. They are actually better, as the GF and sedan, coupe doors have internal side impact bracing. The BRAT does not have this. All you need to do is swap out the glass. Internal door latching parts and mechanicals all the same, except for the bars that connect the interior door handle to the latch assembly.
  6. You can reuse that same handle on a passenger side door. Don't throw away. All door handles are the same. The tailgate opening requires more power, thus it breaks FAR easier than a door. Todd

  11. Has anyone been able to correct/fix a high beam switch? My will work on low beam and will also work on high, only if you pull in and hold, but the flip forward... nada worky. It seems to work a few times when the car is really cold. The high beam will stay on, but if you flip it to low, it won't turn the highs back on. This Legacy is the LS sedan, so it had "variable" Int wipers and no rear wiper. The switch is difficult to locate and EXPENSIVE. Any ideas? # 83111AC750 Thanks!
  12. and it's nice to make one trip to the parts store with a core in hand. Then no rush to return the one you are replacing. I keep old carbs though. Parts are getting rare with those.
  13. Quick question.... I seem to have a lot of old cores sitting around. I hate to throw them out. They are rebuildable afterall. Things like alternators, starters, AC compressors. Older stuff and New gen too. What do you all do with your? Keep just one of each and "recycle" the rest?
  14. All good information and so appreciated! It is a 96 DOHC, so it would have the hydro lifters and a graphite gasket I guess. It seems that locating a low mileage 2.2 is increasingly difficult! I am one to stick with the mental reassurance of a 2.2. I guess I need to get one. $2700 is not a bad deal.
  15. Well, I swore that I would never buy a 1st gen 2.5, but now that the "survivor" "Grandpa" cars are appearing, I am tempted. I located a nice 1996 Outback, about 120K, Super clean, babied and well maintained car for $2700. No issues. Is that too high? (Texas car...no rust) The car runs fine, never had a head gasket issue...yet. But I am spooked by this car because of the history. Now I know I can drop a 2.2 in it and it's all fixed, but that's another project in the mix of the 100s that I already have. I just don't know if I could ever trust these cars. I want to get this car for my Dad. If the head gaskets fail on these, about how many miles? Do they all fail eventually? What is the failure rate? If you replace the head gaskets with the new version gasket, is it all good, or is there still a reliability problem? Would any of you still consider buying one of these? I know the low mileage EJ22s from 1995 with EGR are getting harder to locate. Maybe I should get one and store for future use? Thanks, Todd
