  1. Thanks for the tips. Both engines's cylinders seem about the same, but 10k vs 56K is not a huge amount of difference I think I have picked the one to build up. I am putting together a ton of spare parts into an engine. Better one good engine rather than "stuff" all over! Todd
  2. Actually, IT IS the same car!! I just looked at it here: http://www.sonorasubaru.com/used/Subaru/1979-Subaru-DL+Coupe-d4d718370a0a000200ceaf8c36568e3b.htm It has the same aftermarket/replacement carpet as I remembered and also some other things looked the same. The guy here wanted 3K!! Maybe I should have bought it and made some $$. This car was a mess up close. Rust behind the bumper, in the trunk and a real mess in the engine compartment. Someone cleaned it up. Todd
  3. Actually, I looked at the one in Lewisvile Texas. It was not as pristine as the one for $7900. The Lewisville car had trunk rust, aftermarket carpet and a thilthy engine compartment. I almost bought it, but it required more work than I wanted for the asking price. I doubt these are the same cars, unless someone sunk some money into it.
  4. It's interesting in that one of these engines is clean, clean on the outside and dirty on the inside and the other one is the exact opposite!
  5. Heads are off. It's just a short block with oil pan. There is still crosshatching on the bores and no ridge that I can feel at least. (Can you really feel those)? Tops of cylinders both had some carbon, one a bit worse than the other. I need to get a bore gauge. I will pull the oil pans and look for "black nastyness".
  6. OK...I have 2 EA71 short blocks. 1 is supposed to have 10 k on it and the other 56k. Problem is that the 56K engine looks cleaner, as if it had less miles than the 10K. (Both these engines sat for YEARS on a shelf, so they are both a little dusty). What are some good ways to determine the better choice out of 2 engines? Thanks for your opinions! Todd
  7. This car is slowly getting parted here. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=137407 Nolan, (board member), wants the dash pad out of this car. He would send it off for restoration, vs taking his out and risking not getting it back, or have it wrong. He will pay someone to get it and ship it, plus the part price. (About $25). I don't have the time to get back to this yard right now. They crush at about 90 days, so there is less than a month left for this one. Anyone local that can pull this thing? email Nolan at: nolanshireman@yahoo.com
  8. This car is slowly getting parted here. Another Ft Worth guy got the tranny and some enigine stuff. Nolan, (board member), wants the dash pad out of this car. 9. Car had in the 30K range when I got it. The Subaru recall was in the first few months by the original owner. Gosh, pulling that pan is a PITA! (I have a new filter and gasket from my 95. I believe it's the same. Todd
  10. Thanks for all the information. Yes, this car had a "factory recall" and an installation of an inline filter near the radiator. This filter was replaced once since, about 10K ago with another exact SUBARU assembly for this year. I will check the pan for dents, but I'm 99 percent sure that it's OK. I'm wondering if it's worth it to pull the pan and replace the filter screen and o-ring? Someone mentioned that a power flush might clean out some sediment that may be blocking something internally. I'm hesitant on that, but it's worth a try. This tranny is so clean you could eat off it. (and so is the fluid....)Goes to show, regular maintance gives no guarantees! I think I will do the synthetic fluid trial....thoughts? I think in light of the low mileage and super care, this trans is worth some attempts at fixing. Heck all the used ones are sitting at WAY over 100K! Yikes! This car is operational and runs OK.....it's just the engagement piece. Todd
  11. I've got a 91 LSi 2WD, automatic that has decided to give me a headache. The car is right at 100K and has been well taken care of, maintained and not run hard at all. It's in near mint condition! The car has been with me for 15 years. It has delayed engagement when shifting into gear from park. (Both forward and reverse). At redlights, or stops, it even delays just a bit from a dead stop, even in gear. Now it's not bad, but noticable. I increased the idle speed and it helped some, but it did not eliminate. It seems like a pressure problen, as the tranny shifts find, does not slip and works well, as long as the rpms are up....such as when moving. I have drained and refilled 2X and added TRANS-X. It really did no good. Same deal. Am I missing something? This is a low milage tranny, has a cooler that was added, been babied and now it's failing? I guess it can happen, but geeze! 100K? Should I just be shopping for a used tranny? Or should I flush and fill this some more , add more TRANS-X? Is this 4EAT worth pulling and taking to a shop for a rebuild, or repair? Opinions oh mighty Subaru gurus! Todd
  12. Nolan has been in the hospital for major surgery. He just went home today. I will PM the address to you. Todd
  13. True...These inline engines are easy in the car. I will leave well enough alone! It all looks dry and new actually! Timing belt for sure. Interesting that this G32B is NOT interference. Even though it's an MCA jet engine. Thanks, Todd
  14. I'm looking for a good 2WD station wagon gas tank. 78, 79...maybe even 1977. 4WD will not work that I know of. Todd
  15. Bonvo...I have the right backup light of this car. $10 plus the stamp. email me Todd subaru3@aol.com
  16. OK...I have this 48K 1.6 Mitsubishi (Plymouth Champ) that I have polishing up with all new externals, h2O pump, seals, timing belt, pulleys, etc and I'm wondering about the head gasket. I'm going to install it in my Champ. I know on low mileage Suby engines, (JDM imports), I have never had a bad one. This Mitsu engine is clean enough to eat off of and was stored in dry storage with "oiled" cylinders. It turns over with great compression. Again 48K Is it worth it to replace the head gasket and go into to that work? I personally believe the stock/original assembly and gasket are worth at least a shot. I doubt that they would be bad. Your thoughts? Thanks! Todd
  17. Damn salt!!!!!!!!!!! Nice little car! LOOK at the SIZE of the headstones in that cemetery! Todd
