Could I Ask if you're Completely Sure about the Noise's Origin to be at the Differential? Any Background info about that Differential? ... did it Ran out of Oil? Here, a More easy-to-Look View: Around all Empty area goes a Fan Cover for the Missing Fan.

There, in those four Screws, a Clutch fan must be Placed. is Missing. You can grab one at a Junk Yard, along with its Cover.

Yes, your Engine is Missing some Parts, let me explain it Better...

Pete, you can do a Simple Test to Address the Problem: if the Engine Runs Great with the Fuel pump Directly Wired to the Battery (Disconnecting the Original Wire) then is an Electric Supply issue. But if the Problem Persist, then is the Carb's Float that gets Stuck closed somehow... I Kindly Suggest you to Try these Suggestions. Kind Regards.
