  1. But it does kinda suck to have to pull everything apart just to get to that little piece of metal!:-\ Anyway, I went to the J-Yard today to se if I could get one. I was working on getting one out, but the yard closed before I could finish. But I did get a new starter and some really nice back carpet (mine was trashed by previous owner), and the nice thing is that all the yards seem to be having the semi anual 1/2 off sale this week-end. Tomorrow, I WILL get the fork out (pun intended), and I might also get the rack and pinion, since mine is leaking and the one ob the donor car at the yard is bone dry.
  2. I'd kill for that LSD.... OK, maybe kill isn't the right word. Maybe I'd injure severely!!! PS. Make sure the car you put it on has the 3.7 gear ratio comming out the back of the tranny (turbo, xt6's maybe). I would hate to see you fry one the diff or your transmission.
  3. I'd be happy with $1000 if I was buying. PS. Where's Cotati???
  4. OK. So Red, the $300 94 Leggy Alpine Wagon, has come down with a bad case of clutch failure. The pedal goes in, the fork moves, but there is only a littl resistance on the pedal, showing that the pressure plate is not being pressed enough to sepparate the clutch disk from the fly wheel. Ticks me off because the clutch assy. is only six months old. I'm hoping that maybe the throw-out fork is bent or something.
  5. I have a spare 3 A/T and other parts if he wants them. I am busy until November'ish. Have a Halloween gig with RareForm in, you guessed it, San Diego. I have a friend who lives in Auburn. Could make it a 2 for one trip.
  6. Always glad to help. Wish I had this resource sixteen years ago, I might still have my 1980 GL with the third eye!
  7. Phiz, can't tell where the leak is, but there are shavings in the fluid that remains in the tranny housing. Cab., that is a good description of the 3 A/T - Good around town, revved way too high on the freeway. Hey NSD: I would very much be interested. This doesn't have to be a "right now" type thing. I have an 84 Tercel in the garage that needs to get fixed and sold first. PS. Where in CA do you live. Is it NorCal? I would drive to get the tranny. I'm in a band in San Diego, yet I live in Fresno. So if I'm willing to drive across half the state , 348 mile, to play a gig, I'm more than up to driving the other half of the state to get a tranny. Plus, one of my favorite winerys is up there.
  8. I'd rather get a shifty hi / lo 5 speed. Don't all the XT6's have the 3.7 rear gear?
  9. I don't like the list of cars chosen to compair with the 92 Loyale. It would be better to find cars of similar style and year to show if the Subie is really heavy or not. PS. 92 Leggy is much heavier.
  10. Well, this week-end is the 1/2 off sale at the J-Yard. I figure I will replace the leaky FT4WD 5 speed resideing in Murph (the $500 87 T-Wag) with a tranny that doesn't leak. I doubt I will be able to find another FT4WD manual, so here is the question. What other trannys will match spline count and 3.7 diff? I haven't ruled out the option of swapping out the 3.7 rear diff. with a 3.9, if neccessary. Has anyone noticed a difference between the two as far as performance goes (Caboobaroo)? PS. Both front halfshafts, and one rear, are new, so I don't want to replace them.
  11. On Murphy, the $500 87 T-Wag, I was getting about 18 to 19 mpg city... AND highway, if I didn't floor it!!!
  12. Second the 5 on the floor. You'll be happier with the performance AND get better mpg than with the crappy 3 speed a/t. PS. Just for fun, do a search on the list for 3 speed automatic and crappy 3 speed and see how many hits you'll get - this will let you know what the general consensus is on that tranny.
  13. The Legacy is a very nice touring car. Comphy ride for long trips. If I drive in the mountians or go places with lots of fun, windy roads, the GL is the car for me. It's more tossable and handles better, IMHO.
  14. Could be power steering fluid. Mine has that problem.
  15. I had one where the remnants of the boot, still attached to the axle, was hitting a part of the car, making a clicking sound.
  16. For cheap upgrade, see if you can find an old RX at the bone yard and grab the front springs. They are stiffer than the regular GL's and improved the handling on my 87 GL-10 quite a bit. And yes, do get new struts. I've not heard of using Miata springs. Is there a link to that mod? Did they make the 4 speed A/T in 85? I thought those were added in 88? Mine had the crappy 3 speed, which I swapped out for a 5 speed FT4WD.
  17. Do it youself will probably be the only available option, as many mechanics just won't touch a Subaru (fear of the unknown). We will help with any questions, as many of us have had to replace the head gasket on this engine, it's the EA82T's achillies heal. Do a search on the topic and you will see me and my car Murphy, the $500 87 T-Wag, hogging up a good portion of the comments:lol::lol:.
  18. ... or you could use regular bolts to fasten the fan to the pulley, which, now that I think about it, is what I wished I would have done! make sure to use lock washers or lock tight if you do it this way.
  19. Sorry I forgot to mention that about the 2 row being a tight fit. You can hacksaw about an 8'th of an inch off either the studs that hold the fan to the clutch, or off the ones that hold the clutch assy. to the water pump pulley. It is kinda a pain to have to mod the car for the 2 row to work, but the extra cooling capacity is well worth it.
  20. When people refer to a "two row radiator", they aren't referring to a radiator with this second oil cooler radiator builtin, are they? The two row radiator has two sets of fins and tubes built into the single unit. If you put it beside a normal single row rad, it will be thicker than the single. Front rad is for A/C. I own an 87 GL-10 (Murphy, the $500 87 T-Wag), and I tell you you absolutely HAVE to get the 2 row radiator. How I wish I would have done that when I first bought my car. Would have saved me sooooooo many head aches. I suffered through several blown coolant hoses, including the one under the turbo, which is a PITA to change, and two or three blown head gaskets before I wised up and got the 2 row rad. That being said, I LOVE this car. It is a blast to drive. PS. Do you have the 3 speed or 4 speed auto tranny? 88 should have the 4, which is not bad at all. Mine had the crappy 3 speed tranny, which is horribly geared - I would be at 4000 RPM's doing 75 on the freeway, which contributed to my head gaskets going mishugina. PPS. If you have the air suspension, and your having issues with it, you might think about ditching it for the standard struts, the car will handle better. I did that swap and the handling is much improved. Get fronts for RX model if you can, as they are a bit stiffer that the standard. PPPS. I'm in Fresno. If you need help and I'm in the area.... well, I'll see what I can do. Plus, I have spare parts.
  21. 87 regular. Signed: Murphy, the $500 87 T-Wag!
