  1. Yep, Murphy the $500 87 T-Wag is being a little moody. When cold it runs fine. When it warms I get some lag in acceleration. Also sometime it feels like there is a speed limiter installed and it doesn't want to go past 73 mph. I'm fairly certain the TPS is part of the problem. I have cleaned the terminals and that has seemed to make things better temporarily, but I know the pins are pitted and the contacts probably build resistance as they warm. I do have another TPS from a GL (year unknown), and the connections are a bit different. The one in Murphy has two wires connected to the top of the TPS and a white and black wire set that connects on the side. The spare TPS does not have the black / white wires. I wonder if those were used for the crappy auto tranny's passing grear? Any thoughts?
  2. Haven't you ever heard the line about how EA82's are very loyale to their owners, and are just marking their territory to protect you against intruding fords or chevys?
  3. Glad you didn't get snookered on the 93. You might ask someone on the list to run a car fax for you. A few here have dealer connections and can run one for you. And I agree, if the price of a car is way below value, there is often a reason..... and it's usually not a good one. PS. How far is "anywherebuthere" from Fresno???
  4. If you start your travel within the next week, you'll have some nice snow to drive through from this huge storm blowing in.
  5. AFAIK, the stock Subies that shipped en mass to the States were all the same. This is true for most of the Japanese cars of the late seventies and early eighties. In the 70's, Japan had much tougher laws on polition than the US. When we started cracking down on polution, the domestics got caught flat footed. So they started adding stuff onto the vehicles depending on the new regulations of the state they were going to be sold in. So while Ford, GM, Chrystler, and (God forbid you had one) AMC were busy bolting on performance and efficiency robbing smog pumps and other crap to try and pass muster, the Japs didn't have to do squat. In fact, the first gen Honda Civic (75 - 79) didn't even have a catalytic converter. I had a 76 and sans cat it passed the Cal smog test in the early 90's with flying colors. I must give Honda kudo for that little CVCC engine. Great design, with the mini cumbustion chamber that created a more efficient fuel burn. Mitsu copied the design and their version, called JET, powered the Dogde Colt for a few years in the early 80's.
  6. Except for me, a bass player, and a guitarist named Rob, Fresno's got nothin'!!!! PS. On the other hand, we do have the town to ourselves....
  7. ... from Red, the $500 94 Alpine Wagon, and from Murphy, the $500 87 T-Wag. And thanks to all, from me, for all the help in keeping my babies humming along.
  8. T-riffic!!! And the car is a hatch with the bubble window! Oh, how 'bout some pic of that 80 / 81'ish wagon you got!
  9. If you want larger injectors, then the injectors for the 280Z will fit. What are the benefits / drawbacks? PS. I won't be doing any modding for a while as I'm going to start my student teaching in January, which is non-paid. I will be super broke for the next few months.
  10. Just curious - Has anyone swapped the injectors from an EJ22 onto an EA82?
  11. Heh! I was just in your neck of the woods (literaly) in Nov. I came up to visit my mom and sister, who both live in Gig Harbor. I took my mom to Muckleshoot (sp). I lost about $40. My Mom? She won $320 playing 2 ¢ slots!
  12. Crap, That's cheap!!! Too bad I didn't read this till AFTER I already repaired the tensioners.
  13. Awesome! The names on the valve cover are so over-the-top! If this isn't true love, I don't know what is!!! But if you guy ever separate, will there be a custody battle over the engine???
  14. I have two projects on my plate. Not only am I fixing the rack on Red, but Murphy the $500 87 T-wag blew out the idler gear last week and has to be fixed first.
  15. Pulled the rack from the yard. Yep, it's very easy. I hope to install it tomorrow, but I tweaked my back tonight, so we'll see if I'm up to it. Oh, and I didn't tweak my back doing auto repairs. I just twisted around to get out of my seat, and WHAM! Back spaz!!!
  16. So I had this great idea to replace the T-belt tensioner bearings on Murphy, the $500 87 T-wag. I get the belt guide off the pulley, but the bearing is still on the shaft. So then I grab a wrench to use as a wedge and start hammering away. I see the wrench moving but not the bearing. I look closer. SURPRISE!!! The tensioner shaft IS part of the bearing and I bent the crap out of the whole thing! So now I'm off to the J-yard to find another tensioner pulley. What fun!
  17. I also would go with the Legacy 90 - 94 w/ 2.2 litre engine. I live in Fresno CA, and somehow I'm in a band down in San Diego, 348 miles away (don't ask me how that works, it just does). I drive my 94 Alpine wagon on that trip, an I gotta say - it's quite compfey. The wagon has more than enough room for my bass gear, with plenty of room for more band stuff if needed. That being said, I also have an 87 GL-10 Turbo Wagon, which, though not quite as compfey (it's not uncompey though), is a blast to drive. Handling is sporty. Has a turn radius to die for, and when that turbo kicks in.... it's just plain fun.
  18. If you really want to see some smoke, put some Seafoam© into one of the vac line then restart the engine. It'll smoke like a crop duster for a good ten minutes, but your pistons will be clean.
