  1. well the DL got a new motor, clutch, brakes, and suspension all the way around.. i thought by replacing the worn out struts it would level the rear out.. well now its sits like 2" higher in the front and the back is still sittin on the bump stops practically.. so this tells me the rear coils are shot.. (2wd wagon too btw) now to the question.. how much longer are the 4wd rear coils vs the 2wd's? and will they fit on my 2wd wagon if i just swap out the hole assembly?
  2. i put a factory 6 disc cd changer/tape deck/radio in my 99 outback.. it came out of an 04' wrx.. anyways, it plugged right in and worked fine.. it does not mess with the alarm system as its not integrated into the stereo.. i thinks you got a bad head unit is all..
  3. if you abuse the 4eat (like not change the fluid and filter at least every 30k) it will leave you sitting in traffic somewhere with around 140k on it.. now if you change it like you should. they will last over 200k.. example = we all know how bad an svx trans is.. my svx i used to have had roughly 230k on it... Original auto trans.. it was serviced every 20-30k.. thats all.. now a manual trans will take a beating for longer.. (except a wrx trans) but the clutch will go on you regardless.. they all wear out..
  4. 93' legacy SS - 05' scion alloys 17" 215/45/17's bridgestone potenza re92's. no complaints here.. they stick like glue to dry pavement..
  5. the car always ran wierd.. good, but wierd.. got 35 mpg on the last raod trip.. but never had alot of power.. always had to move the wires 1 spot around the cap to get it to run too.. but it was timed at 20 degrees.. after we ripped it out for a replacement, we checked the timing belts were dead on, so we rotated it around and check the position of the disty.. turns out when at top dead center, the rotor was pointed at #2.. so it was fireing 2,4,1,3 totally backasswards of what it should have been.. but i did like the gas mileage.. lol now its gettin a brand spankin new ea82 carbed block and heads, teh spfi intake.. new struts, brakes, clutch, everything.. all new.. only issue is my radiator was rotted and i kinda ran out money for the project, so i hit the junkyard.. all they had was an xt6 radiator.. it fits nice if you change the bottom rail, but the ac compressor won't go back on cause the neck is too long..so i'll have to save some pennies and get a radiator before summer.. no biggy.. she should be back on the road tomorrow..
  6. any ideas on how to fix my leaky sunroof? it snowed today (still is) and the damn thing leaks like a mofo..
  7. doesn't the ea81 dual range 4wd 4-speed trans have a lower gear ration than the other year ea81 trannies? i may have found a 4-speed 4wd trans in a 82' wagon.. along with a 57k original engine
  8. i had an old cavalier than ran like ************ when it warmed up but good when cold.. it also kept spitting out the same code even tho the sensor was fine.. i changed the ecm and all the problems were fixed.. you might have a bad ecm..
  9. in my old ea81 and ea82 engines i run 20w50 with a 1/4qt of MMO..(thins it out some) never had any issues with this.. not even for an old turbo wagon with 297k.. the engine was pulled and taken apart when the car got junked due to rust.. it was spotless inside.. ohh, and this was a turbo ea82 at that.. turbo was original also.. never had a problem.. in the outback i had i used to run 10w30 as the winters are mild here.. no issues there either.. in the 93' 2.2 turbo legacy i'm trying something new.. am running castorl synthetic blend 10w30.. its supposed to be great for the short trips.. which i make everyday (5 miles twice a day) not using MMo with this either.. as a general rule of thumb i stay away from 10w40.. no real reason i suppose tho..
  10. me and a couple friends are going to be turboing a justy.. its a 90 mpfi with the ecvt 4wd (trans has under 20k on it and is perfect) going to be using the turbo and parts off of a 93 mercury capri xr2.. i figure the turbo is samall enough because the merc is only a 1.6.. the justy already has a functional wrx hoodscoop on it too we'll get pics once its done... the manifold is prolly gonna be the hardest part.. i'm thinking we might figure out how to use xt6 injectors as well.. i know it'll be the only one on the east coast
  11. just to chime in, i have a 93' turbo legacy.. saw 20-23 mpg on the feeway on my last road trip (65-80 mph avg) all stock and 115k.. no hesitations, or anything, just smooth power.. now in town i am seeing like 17-19mpg.. gas mileage ain't great, but thats the nature of the beast.. i need to get some exhaust work done though.. where and how much?? lol btw.. i do love being able to do a 200 yard burnout in fwd mode all the way through 2nd gear with my automatic, on brand new dry pavement .. accidentally left one across 3 lanes of traffic pulling out and trying to get over into the turn lane real fast.. forgot it was in fwd.. never saw a z06 do one that long..
  12. the imp was a na 2.2 2-door.. long gone to the scrapper.. the trans on the other hand has some wrx internal upgrades also have a wrx torque converter as well.. pretty sure it was just an L model imp.
  13. i have a 93' legacy SS of course turbo auto... and i have a auto trans from a 95 Impreza.. if i swap the diffs, is the 95' trans compatible with the ecm in my 93' legacy? basically are the trannies the same? i'm bettin the gear ratio is different.. just not sure about the electronic/internal side of things.. the Imp tranny shifted a hole bunch better..
  14. well, i was just looking at tirerack and found'em on special, $59 a piece, lol.. i need some tires and wheels so i was asking before i bought them.. would hate to buy'em then they not fit.. right now my legacy ss has the stock 15" wheels with 195/55/15's on it and it looks like a mexican lowrider.. i mean like a good 5 inches between the top of the tire and the fender....
  15. will 18" wheels with a 50mm offset and 215/40/18 tires fit on a 93' legacy sport sedan? with the stock wheels theres lots of clearance, but i'm not sure about the 18's..
  16. just a helpful tip for all, do not buy the regular exhaust gaskets for a carbed or spfi engine aftermarket, they usually come looking like a piece of paper with a metal ring in the center.. they always blow out.. instead get gaskets for say a 90 loyale rs turbo.. they are made of the same material as like a headgasket.. all metal/lead fiber.. they fit the same and don't blow out.. and they are like $9 from advance for a set.. just my input
  17. let me check when i get to work tomorrow (work for advance) i know they're a motormite part, but i think i can get them in another brand as well.. pretty sure i'd have to order them, but they can be had.. will post back tomorrow night
  18. I've already got a sleeper, lol... its funny pulling up to a honda wathcing them laugh, then when we take off, i pull away and PSSSSHHHHHTTT! then they wanna see under the hood.. its hilarious really.. too bad i am sellin her, she's such a fine sleeper.. about 200hp or so, with full rx drivetrain.. honda, its whats for dinner.. my next sleeper is a junker i have.. 93 mercury capri XR2 convertible.. without a cat and the boost cranked to 12psi in its stock form, the car will spank a 03 v6 tiburon in about 50 yards, lol.. its going to be my drag car at the track this summer.. hondas beware
  19. LOL, i work for advance auto parts.. (LIFETIME WARRANTY on alternators, starters and various other things) yah, we sell aftermarket parts, and yes i prolly sell a bad starter and alternator once a week.. even tho its a new part, someone still has to put it together and can fudge it up.. it doesn't just magically appear like you would find a seashell on the beach.. (ohh look what washed up on shore ma, a brand new alternator for my 97 legacy) that parts guy did the right thing by tellin you he'd get you another one.. parts stores usually buy thier parts from someone else, usually a company in mexico or something.. even a brand new subaru oem part has to be assembled by someone that can fudge it up.. what i'm gettin at is theres a dud in everything.. (ever bought a pack of pens that didn't write?) suck it up and put another one on there... and live with the fact that you got the dud in the box.. oh and a low not fully charged battery in a car, will make a replacement (brand new or rebuilt) alternator overwork itself, run hot, and burn up cause its gotta charge your dead battery, that was prolly run down when your old alternator went bad and ya didn't get it charged before hand..
  20. well, i couldn't find the place, so i called the guy, turns out its his private junkyard.. so i gotta give him a ring before hand and he'll go up with me to put the rots away and open the gate, lol.. now to just find a day off, hmmm..
  21. when i saw the guage jump up i turned the blower on high to get it back to 14, lol.. i know that was too much juice..
  22. its an 86 gl wagon, carbed ea82 engine.. was drivin home tonight from work, and the alt gauge jumped up to almost 18, lights got real bright, the tach started jumping all over the place, and it started backfireing and pinging bad.. the first thing i noticed was the tack so i thought coil, but then i noticed the alt gauge and lights, then the backfireing and pinging.. possibly the disty?! i just changed the fuel filter today.. so i know its not that.. EDIT: ohh its also had this intermittent miss.. like it drops a cylinder once in awhile.. does it totally random, no rhym or reason..
