contacting original owner -- is that ok?
BruceyWV replied to yarikoptic's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXAre you guys serious? Its required that the dealer tells you who the previous owner is if you ask. Which basically means calling them up and chatting with them for 5 minutes to make sure they didnt turn in the car because it kept idling rough, or stalled all the time when it was cold out.

Lift time, finally?
I can just get you a new pair of struts, since I'll be replacing mine regardless. The only thing I cant decide on is putting on stiffer springs too.

BruceyWV replied to yarikoptic's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXCalling up the original owner is part of buying a used car. They're the only ones that know what really happened with the car. I've done it on every used car I've bought. (Which happens to be all of them) Hint: Little old ladys are the best. Its as close as you can come to having a mint condition car.

Auto trannys/are they reliable
BruceyWV replied to Petersubaru's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXThe 95 Legacy I've got for the time being has a 4EAT with 215k on the odometer. Dont know if its original though, but "repairs in the thousands of dollars" is hi-larious. You can get a performance WRX Drag racing-cant-be-killed 4EAT for under 4. I have 75 On the 2000, and the transmission hasnt been an issue. I've done my share of beating on it too.

Lift time, finally?
Are we talking about putting a spacer on the strut, to drop it from the body, or extending the strut itself inside the coil spring? I'd be happy with either, but if I was going to do the latter some lift springs would definately be in order. Hmmm.

ultimate NEW GEN subaru toolkit?
BruceyWV replied to bustedbolt's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVX10, 12, 14, 17, and 22mm sockets are about all I've ever needed. I cant think of anything else. What size is the axle nut? 32? Most of this seems to be already covered in that old thread.

Finally got the OBS lifted!

Lift time, finally?
H6 isnt in, I have the radiator, and accessories for it. But basically I ran out of time needing my own car, and am using the money left over from it and putting it into a lift. Gotta have my fun ya know.

Lift time, finally?
Feedback welcome. I've got a 2000 Outback and just take it on the trails in my county for fun, nothing too extreme. But all the trails in my county are uneven and I basically can't decided to do a strut spacer or a king spring lift. Its currently running 27" SSR's and I havent gotten it stuck once (I'm awful slow and cautious though). Springs: I like how the king springs raise the entire vehicle up, I wont mind putting some extra wear in the cvs, but travel seems like it would be limited and I dont have nearly enough travel already. Strut spacers. Where can I get strut spacers only? If I can get a good deal on them, I think that is what I'll do. Same travel and gain an inch or two. Although at the same time, I need to replace my struts soon too. They're pretty much shot.

Nokian WR tires
BruceyWV replied to becca7four's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI drive 30K+ miles a year. I cant imagine the sidewalls cracking in less than 3 years. I like the TTs, although I agree they are a compromise and arent the best handlers... nor the best at anything really. But they get the job done in any situation I've put them in. Thats what I was going for. Its not like I expect to win a drag race, a hill climb, or an autocross with the Lesbaru.. If I can get two years of use out of them I'll be happy. Anyone who isnt alright with "below average in all seasons" should get 2 sets of tires.

found a 97 limited a/t outback
BruceyWV replied to 86subaru's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXSubarus have a transfer case, thats what they refer to it in the schematics. Its definately not a traditional transfer case, though. I say you can get a better deal though for that much work.

Outback or Forester?

Outback or Forester?
BruceyWV replied to minip's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI like the forester, but its too 'sporty' for my tastes. And by sporty, I mean its no fun on long trips because its based on the impreza. Long trips a lot? Outback. In town a lot? Forester.

BruceyWV replied to idosubaru's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXGary: If you just need a spare in that size, I have 2 good tires on that size, treadwear is alright, but they're just some walmart special tires. Free if you want them.
