30 inch tires on 82 brat
You can run 30" tires. The best combination for this would be a 5 speed dual range swap (5 speed has a lower low range), and a 6" lift kit, and lengthen the radius rods 1", then pound away at the inner fender and cut any unwanted fender interference . For the record, with a 6" lift 27" tires fit with no cutting. I find I have plenty enough power in my wagon with the EA81 and 31" tires, the only things that get me are long, steep hills. I can still go 70 on the freeway if I have to though -Bill

Hatch Patrol/NW Washington Offroad Group/Older School Meet
Looks like Ill be bringing my Brat if it cooperates, with either no lift or a 6" lift and 5 speed swap, depending on if I get any time to work on it or not. Just gotta check one thing though, Im sure all you West siders would know, how big of a fine will I get if a ranger cites me for having glasspack mufflers in the woods? -Bill

85 ea82 sedan - what parts will fit
I would say use 5 speed 23 spline stubs just to be safe, but I really dont know if the 4 speed stubs are the same or not. As for the rear diffs, yes your brat should have 3.9 ratio, so you would need to swap in the 3.7 diff to match the RX trans, otherwise bad stuff happens -Bill

Subie motocross racing
Awe, you can totally take on Open Class! just put a cage and some extra chassis supports in that beast so you can jump it higher and harder and get more points! -Bill

Anyone ever make a tool
Just whipped this up a half hour ago: That is the axle puller tool. Works like a charm! made this one with about 9 inches of 3/4" threaded rod, an axle nut, about 8" of 2" exhaust pipe, and a pair of 3/4" flat washers and nuts, then welded a handle on it so it wouldnt turn while I was turning the nut. Shazam! Thats all just crap I had layin around, I did have to do a little lathe turning, but nothing I couldnt have just as well done with a grinder (had to round the points on the axle nut to go into the pipe) -Bill

85 ea82 sedan - what parts will fit
If it is a Turbo with an RX 5 speed D/R with Diff lock then it should have 3.7 final ratio and 25 spline axles. You can swap the stubsout of the tranny with some 23 spline stubs and then it will work with your EA81 axles. All turbo EA82s with manual transmissions had 25 spline axles while it appears the turbos with automatics had 23 spline axles... About the only things of interest for you to swap to your brat would be the trans, rear disk breaks, and the LSD rear diff if it has one. The power steering can be adapted, but you will need a custom bracket. -Bill

Subie motocross racing
You could do some home made beadlocks, I seen that alot on superstock and other drag race cars here, just make sure everything gets balanced when youre done. Are you running those 14" Desert Rat wheels? If you went to say a 15" wheel I think theres more available, since its a pretty popular size in most motorsports. -Bill

Bearing part numbers
Yeah Im aware of the tool I need, I think Im gonna whip one out on the Mill at work this week or something... I gotta get the right bearings first though :-\ -Bill

Bearing part numbers
Ok that does help a bit, the parts my guy gave me are not right. he gave me 4 bearings, but 2 of them are smaller than the others. Im gonna check out those pictures you have, they will help a lot. -Bill Edit: Upon further thinking and looking at those pics, it looks like he gave me 2wd wheel bearings, where the outer bearing is smaller than the inner. Is this possible? Also, there is supposed to be an outer and an inner seal right?

Subie motocross racing
Beadlocks man, if they'll let you run them on that course, Im assuming that is not a street vehicle at all, so it should be ok? That seems like about the only solution, unless you superglue the ************ out of the beads with the best superglue money can buy -Bill

Bearing part numbers
I searched, and found this http://ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=79586&highlight=bearing+part+numbers Does anyone have the Federal Mogul part number for the Rear wheel bearings for EA82 and also for EA81 4wd vehicles? Im a little confused because my parts guy seems to have given me the wrong parts, and that really does not happen that often. Im lookin at an 85 DL rear subframe with the 2 bearings instead of the 1 like was mentioned, and any info that can help clear my confusion would help. Thanks! -Bill

Ea82-ea81
Hmm, I never thought much about it, I just got used to muscling the Beast around with no P/S, but Im sure I could whip something up, Ill just have to find a SPFI manifold, but Ill try to make something that works with the EA81 carb manifold, the ea82 carb manifold and the SPFI manifold. The real tricky part about the EA82 manifolds on the EA81 motors is the thermostat housing is right next to the disty, not leaving much room of any kind.... Ill see what I can do  -Bill

Ea82-ea81
It just needs a custom bracket made to mount the steering pump on the EA81, but its kinda tricky cuz the best place for it is taken by the distributor. -Bill

Build Thread: The Sedamn
The camber is off because he wanted a little bit extra lift on the front struts, so it has 4" lift blocks on the engine crossmember and 5" on the struts, which will create possitive camber. -Bill

what i do when i am not working on the car...
Not to be an rump roast, but perhaps you should look at every coil-sprung suspension system on any American made car from the 60's and newer sorry, I just feel mean today :-\ Brian, you plan on using these as the suspension or with the suspension? If you want to mount them in the front in place of the struts its really easy to make a plate to mount them to, but if you need some help figuring it out let me know and Id be glad to help -Bill

My 1986 Subaru Leone GL Wagon!
Just for the sake of arguement towards GD, not all GLs came with power door locks. I have 3 GLs on my place that do not have power door locks, and one has manual steering. And they came from the factory that way. I do have a GL with power locks, and both the GL-10s I have had power locks. But my point is not all GLs had power locks or power steering. Those things were options. Oh and I like that wagon, EA82 wagons are my thing -Bill
