Oil pan and pickup tube question
beataru replied to buru's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I did this on a 1998 2.5 rs and a 1991 SPFI FWD Loyale. it is possible, we got the pan off, but its not easy, you have to undo the motor mounts either where they mount to the engine, or to the crossmember, and then jack the sucker up, be sure to use wood or something so you dont crack anything. We used wood on the oilpan to jack it up as far as we possibly could, and then jammed 2x4s into both sides of the engine so that it would stay there and we fought a legendary battle to get the pan off, around the pickup. but we did it. -
A/C compressor won't turn, 93 Loyale

Its a good idea to replace the dryer and hoses, especially hoses, considering that some desicants dont like the different oil that r134a uses, but since you used ester its fine. however the hoses were a great idea to replace. I just wanted to make sure you didnt get some super wizbang deal! -

bulb grease is dielectric grease, so that may help. Also about this retrofit kit, where did you get it from, because I see the price on subaru genuine and its 253.72. not horrible for cold ac, but its enough to make me wonder if you got a better deal somewhere. -
Arizonas Emissions stuff isnt too picky, they are about the tailpipe emissions, but as far as vehicle inspection goes, not so much, because if you saw my engine compartment, you will fail me instantly.
-
I do hate CA. for alot of reasons, one of the big ones is their emission people. but thats just my opinion.

on new cars, basically everything is tied through the ign switch, on yours however, not so much. were still not getting spark right?

88 Gl10 wagon turbo troubles
beataru replied to bshoke's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
it will have the MAF. Its the same one nissan and someone else used. -
If I were you I would get an electrical Diagram. and since we really dont know where to start, we have to start with what we know works, and work away from there. Trust me, you can fix it without a diagram, but diags make it easier. EDIT Are go out there and make sure that you are not getting spark or fuel. test for both, if we fix one thing and it also doesnt have fuel well than thats a big bummer. Make sure the carb is filling with fuel, because it should still have fuel in the resiviour. I have mitchell ondemand, so if you want me to get you diags let me know. lets find out whats wrong before we start puting any more parts in it.

Just check the thickness on them, and you should be fine. Should

Remember... The temperature sensor needs water to surround it to give you a reading... so it may not have said it over heated but it very well could have. However, I know of a certain 92 loyale thats gauge was misallined, and we are thinking that the temp got up to, oh about another 1/2 turn past red. And it still runs fine. Also, check for bubbles in your radiator, So fill it up and of course try to bleed it, and then let it run with the cap off and just stare at the filler neck. Thats a simple, and fairly accurate test for headgasket. And have you checked your plugs? Pull them out and see if one of them looks superbly clean, "steam cleaned" is exactly what will happen if coolant is leaking into your cylinder. Hope it helps.

EA82T lack of power and idling problem
beataru replied to soukka's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Check your MAF sensor. as for the test procedures it all depends on the maf that you have. My car i belive has a bad maf, but I CANT FIND A DVOM at the moment . and just to be sure, you did change your fuel filter? before you go through the trouble of megasqurting and rebulding, you will want to have a test subject in good health, so try to figure this thing out. -
seriously, need pics to confirm damage, otherwise I DONT BELEIVE YOU well I guess I still do.

I got the engine, it supposedly has around 60k, but from an ea82.... i doubt it. It has the turbo and all the stock stuff, and it does turn, I hope that it runs. -
For some reason about every time I time an ea82 I dont pay attention and end up playing with the disty to find the right spot again... I feel your pain.
-
So when you say step, you mean grind the mating surface down to the spec of the other flywheel? and then using say the xt6 clutch it would fit because the clutch is thicker?
-
Where did you get that gauge pod? Ive been searching for one of those that looks decent.

Still no rebuild. OH and the car doesnt start now, it cranks and sounds like a piston is just chilling out ex, not connected to crankshaft by anymeans. I cant find the time or money with a job in the A.M. and school in the P.M. also I have no place to tear it apart that is clean. I am debating EJ or EZ swap but that seems like it will never come. Its hard to find quality internals for these old engines. I dont like the parts in stores on ebay because those are some parts that I have no idea about their integrity. Bottom line, if this engine is rebuildable I will most likely try to save it. If not then im screwed because the EJ idea is starting to look expensive (i dont put an ej in a car non modified thats a sin considering what ive seen ejs do.) does anyone want to point and laugh at me? go ahead. BTW borrowing your dads taco sucks, its fun and faster than my car, but you cant use it all the time :-\ Now that im done complaining, I will let you guys read my run on sentences and think about your own cars. -

UPDATE. The engine is in bad shape. It sounds like a rod end cap is held on by one nut or something. at first I thought it was the Distributor. Now its aparent that something else is amiss in this engine. Oh well, time to rebuild Let the fun commence.
