off and on. a lot of the time it just chills there anymore. but like i was saying especially on steep climbs or any technical obstical on a hill, where braking and clutching is needed... it's extremely useful. it's more of a luxury than a definate need. but used properly it can be very helpful and save some headaches. i use it very little since i got the lower gearing. it's also effective with my doble t's for keeping a crawl pace on the trail. definately something you don't use everyday. upgrade to it and see how you like it. i love mine, and like i said, i love it enough i'm putting it in my new project rig!

or people that have been wheeling subies for 4+ years... go yota! lol... an inevitable evolution of the hard corp wheeling... and an inside joke, you'd have to know in order to understand... another reason people push for searching is massive reposts that flood the system and the same question is answered everyday... try the pirate board if they aren't nice enough here. they can be outright jerks about that stuff. grin and bear it! your in a very tame land for the search engine debate.

to make it easier... http://www.rubiconexpress.com/dynamic/mainpage.asp?folderid=785 straight link to the kit i used. i know i had to fab a small braket and emprovise on a few things... but overall a good kit, when i get home i'll finishing installing the yota's. one thing to watch out for is to periodically tighten the adjuster on the finger throttle itself. cause if you have a lot of vibes coming through your stick, it'll come off and go by by... after i got the ultimate cases for the suby, i had more vibes and the center vibrated off and went out the dual t's open shift hole...

eric ain't no cry baby, and he could wheel circles around you blindfolded and in any vehicle. your on a message board, it ain't burger king, so it's not your way... but see you other duplicate post. it has the pertinant info about my finger throttle setup.

it's fine and dandy and legal. i wouldn't worry about it in that aspect. that's like getting into the debate about the legality of beadlocks or the fact your subie lift kit is not dot approved... i used a universal kit, that was like 25 bucks from rubiconexpress.com or google rubicon express. they make a lot of jeep parts. i'm putting the same kit on my new truck also. they can actually be a life saver on hills offroad. especailly in the soobs, when the gear reduction really sucks without a second tcase. with the finger throttle mounted on the stick shift, you can control the throttle with your pointer and middle finger, while you manipulate the clutch and brakes with the feet. got me out of a lot of jams, in rocky steep climbs. also could use as a temporary cruise control on level ground on the street. but it's not recomended.

there's one or 2 pics under member's rides or one of the members pages or under rooinater's pics in the gallery. with the specs of the $hit going into it too on my member page. most of it i have already, have to buy the spool and gears in a couple days, then the marlin hy-steer kit. then all i got to do is get the petty stuff. brake extensions and stuff like that and driveshafts. i have a re-built 4.7:1 low range 23 spline case for the rear and the one in it is going to front case. i have the adapter, the tires, the wagoneer springs for the lift (i also have everything for a 1/4 elliptic setup in the rear. but that isn't going in till i get out of the corp) also need to get the longfields 30 spline chromo axle shafts!! i'll probably sell the 35's right away and buy my dad's 38's... the bed's rusted out and being removed also, and a truck box mounted ont he frame. also have a aussie locker for the front i'm still over seas till august... so all the parts are sitting at my mom and dad's house in marysville, wa. i'm collecting them up there, order and deliver. the day i get home on leave... monter garage 101!!, and it should be ready in about a week to start trail running. with luck and help from my dad and a few friends, it's on when i get home. still want to see some pics of your new project heep70! -

i'm working on the hurrying part! 1 and a 1/2 years left... august this year i'll be holding a couple shake down runs for the new project vehicle. so if you'll be up there by august, your definately invited to come noah! i'm in japan again right now. i was in guam last week and okinawa the week before that. so i'm all over right now. august is my estimated return to the states. yeah welded in the rear is the only way to go on a subaru! have fun steering if you weld the front... lsd isn't too bad in the front... but yes welded is more of a need on the tougher stuff. -
Walker Valley Run Jan 14th
Rooinater replied to one eye's topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
ahhh, at least walker looks the same as the last time i went there. maybe i'll have to add that back to one of the runs i make, when i come home. which trails did you guys run? just the mainline jeep trail, one of the 2 new runs? or poop chute, jeep cross trail, or expressway?? turbone, hope you will be able to leave the house by august! i'm hoping to have the new rig out of the box and assembled.... -
keep looking for some steels. it's worthless on small tires or in the rocks to be running mags. especially on a subaru. i've cracked the bead off of some mags. not worth it. steels bend and you can bend them back, usually enough to get off the trail. you can't with mags or similar wheels, they'll crack if bumped on rocks and stuff hard enough. steel rims all the way. that's i'll i run anymore, after a few bead lips cracked off the rim.

i'll be on a lot this weekend also. so hope i can catch you then if i don't see you before. heep70: i'll be glad to have you on the run in august, consider yourself invited. just remember i'm deployed with the usmc. so it could be pushed back a few months if they extend us out here for any reason. which i really don't see many chances. but who the hell knows. the last one i was supposed to be gone 6-7 months, wound up being 10 months... so who knows...

Subarujunkie: i'll try to get ahold of you on aim. but i'm usually not on aim till midnight to 2 am your time. it always says your offline or away. i'm 17 hours ahead of the west coast right now. and i can't use my own computer online. i've been working on making updates to the site... but it's really difficult to find time out here. i'm going to have to figure out how much i'm going to need to upgrade the site, to facilitate... and all that crap. what i'm looking for is a couple forums in the board. mainly a general 4x4 area, trail talk/photos, upcoming trail runs, for sale toyota and for sale subaru, wanted forum, and off topic. that's what i'm looking at for right now. just to start. i'm sure it won't be that big of a board. but just something to start, and allow me to make the site easier on me, by making it a quick job to update the trail runs, club news and other crap. so i don't have to load from my computer to another to load on the net. the club is a west coast based club at the moment. hence the name, West Coast, The stomper part came from the toys. when i'm out it'll be more focused on the northwest. i'm from marysville, wa and will be back that way permentatly after aug. 6th 2007. but i'm usually up there every few months when i'm not deployed. since i'm building a new vehicle, one will always be in washington for 4x4 runs. and one in arizona for runs down there. as for a little more info about the club click on my signature or go to westcoaststompers.com washington runs have been mainly reiter trails, and evans creek. when i'm home from deployment around next august. depending on how quick i get the new project bolted and welded together. they'll be at least a run to reiter trails, walker and a few others that'll probably be night runs after work. mainly yotas and tcased rigs, depending on which trails we are running. as for when i get out. i'm thinking of hosting an event out at the rim rock lake area. pucker ridge has been in my cross hairs of trails i need to run. along with some of the others in that area. also to include the moon rocks and funny rocks in naches.

hey just setting up a group message thing, for trail runs, modifications, general 4x4 discussion and all that. i'm just using a yahoo group setup for now. unless it grows further in the next few years. http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/westcoaststompers/ not much yet. but get on there if your a member and request your login from me. what was it ezboard that we used to use??... yeah really... not much puts up to what i make the thing do... original subaru design... rockcrawling. still think it's my tcase that's hashed. it drained last time i was on deployment. really hoping it's not the tranny... crap breaks. especially if you are not nice, and treat it like it probably needs to be. upgrading... cough, cough... always upgrading...

Tranfercase rigs- what tire you running, how big?
Rooinater replied to Scott in Bellingham's topic in Off Road
31x10.5 bfg mud terrains. i was running 31x10.5 kumho mud terrains. over all they've been perfect. i'm still working out some weak links in the system. i've snapped a rear axle right behind the joint. and broke the rear welds once, i snapped the lsd stub. granted most of those breaks were cause of heavy throttle, large arizona rocks and a few other combos. i was very used to the heavy foot subaru wheeling and was adapting to the crawling my subaru was now able to do. i'll probably be doing a solid axle swap with a coil or 1/4 elliptic rear suspension if i keep her. the rear end i'll be looking at is 4.11 toyota axle with an aussie locker. but time is needed for that. i have a few of the axle housings and parts laying in the backyard, just need another third member... 31's have worked really well with an 8" lift. i also suggest to beef the front control arms up. i bought a set from mudrat. they are extreme beef. i had a lot of problems trying to keep them off the big rocks in arizona. and trust me they bend like butter if they bump a rock waterfall or a large rock in the trail. hopefully she'll be back together and ready to do some crawling again next winter. that way i can post up some pics on the terminater trails in pheonix. -
yeah the front is definately differant. the only reason i have a front lsd is that i have a second transfercase which you put another rearend up front under your tranny. so you use all the rearend parts up front and don't use the front half of the tranny. the divorced transfercase mod is the best thing you can do to your subaru. but most people don't go extreme enough to need it. it also makes putting a solid axle in the back a lot easier.

there's no way i'd put a true trac in my car. from my understanding they aren't much better then the lsd. might as well weld her up. and deal with it. the main lunch box lockers they should be looking into are. aussie locker lock rite detroit ez-locker and i think there is one more... and for the price of a 1000 dollars... i could, swap a yota axle with an arb onto the car. or fab a triangulated 4 linked toy axle with a detroit or aussie locker... why bother, you can get real beef under the rear?

weld it! that's the only real "locker" for a subaru. we've tried for years to get the support for a company to build lockers for our diffs. with no real luck. i know a few companies said they would. but we needed a huge quanities to be bought up front before they would start. very few of us were willing to throw down 600 dollars per locker for the first round. i'm sure they would have gotten a lot cheaper after the initial set and development costs. i'd still love to get an aussie or lock rite for the subaru diffs. if you can pull the support together to get the initial amount of lockers needed. i'll throw down for 1 or 2 of them for little roo. there is a lot higher backing for offroading subaru's now, then there was 4 or more years ago. we were laughed at back in the day. but obviously they've been proven to be a good medium rated trail rig. the other brick wall you will run into, is that people are cheap, and that's why a lot of them wheel subaru's... cheaper the better in a lot of eyes. but i encourage you to setup a new post asking who is willing to and will buy lockers if we get a company to make them. the weak link will be the cv's and the axle stubs. i've broken an axle stub on the lsd, i've sheared an axle shaft on the lincoln locker, and broke the welds the next time i jammed the wheel. it's my fault, in the end wheel got jammed into the fender. under throttle, in the sand. need to make them bigger after i got the new set of 31's with full tread. i may be backing up from the subaru's a little. but i'll fully support a locker being made. way more dependable then a lincoln locker. i'd suggest aussie lockers, they are supposed to be the best of the lunch box lockers. www.offroadlockers.com hit them and lock rite up when you get a signifigant amount of people. in my opinion... a welded rearend for a subaru is the only way to go, if you plan to follow all the hard corp subies or the modified yotas and jeeps. otherwise unless your as good of a driver as eric and ken from the hatch patrol... forget the lsd. if you plan on light duty wheeling as your main focus lsd is definately the way to go. little roo for a long time had the welded rearend. a lot of the times on light duty wheeling trips i'd be to lazy to pull the axle back out, and i'd drive around with it in the rear, and the tranny in fwd. don't drive it in 4wheeldrive and both axles in, on the street! it does put un-do amount of stress on the welds and the axles. be mindful while driving, take as wide of turns as possible, and if you can place the outer tire where there's gravel or sand or dirt on the road, it'll help let the tire slip. but it's best to remove the axle though. go get a roll pin punch set from harbor freight (like 6 dollars) it's an easy process. generally on the rearend, for some reason one axle comes out easier. remove lower shock bolt, jack up rear end (before you jack make sure the pin on the diff is in a position to be popped out. if not rock car back and forth till it can). tap the pins out, pull the axle out. you might have to fight the axle a little. drop the car and hook up the shock. your good to go. after some practice it get's really quick. use the roll pins, no point in risking throwing out a nail... weld it good and solid, another trick i've seen some of the yotas using is a plate inside and weld everything together. that's my next plan on little roo. i've broke the welds a couple times in the last year. i'm doing that cause the welds have broken a couple times and there's not that much left of the spiders... also make sure that fenders are trimmed well. if the tire jams into the fender it could break the axle or the weld... killed a couple axle joints that way. long, sorry, but weld it, and just remove the axle whenever possible while driving on the street.
