  1. Basically there is nothing different internally between an EA81 and the turbo model. That being said, I don't think anyone has bothered trying to blow one up, but I know for a fact that it will last longer than the EA82T.
  2. I'm gonna go the other way from everyone else. Build the EA81T. It's block design is just as good as the EJ22T. Not a ton of aftermarket support, but it is virtually indestructable. Cracks between the valves? They don't seem to bother my engine! Plus it will make just as much power as an EA82T but is way more reliable and bullet-proof. I'll let you know how mine holds up.
  3. Well if the specs are close enough I will. If not, then I might just design one and have it CNC'd at school for a project or something.
  4. I want to put a lightweight flywheel in my t-wagon, so I need to know if its even physically possible.
  5. Sweet, thanks guys! I'll be waiting with baited breath, haha.
  6. For anyone who has access to these parts or knows the measurements, how many teeth do each of the flywheels have and what are their diameters? Thanks for any help!
  7. My Hurst handle threaded right on, no inserts, JB weld or locktite.
  8. The downpipe will NOT bolt to the VF11. I tried this and was sorely disappointed.
  9. So whats the scoop? Can we get these? I would get Superlites but I don't like the ten spokes.
  10. Only way to know for sure is to try it!
  11. Too little, too late... Hopefully the one off my 1600 donor engine will mate up. Thanks for the help guys!
  12. Yes but there are certain kinds. DGV will fit as well as a similar one the DGF, I think... Just get an adapter that matches your intake manifold and check out the USRM.
  13. Need advice on how to do this. I got all four bolts off but the thing is Very stuck. I can rotate it, but it refuses to come stright off. What methods have you all tried?
  14. Morgan, why don't you try some of this stuff? Someone has to be the guinea pig, right? I would try it but I don't have the money, time, garage or frankly the interest in extreme offroading that others on this board do. I like to go fast during the week and a little muddy on the weekends, so my little 3" lift is perfect and I don't see the need for all that stuff on my rig.
  15. Wagonpowaa put a soft tonneu cover on his gen 1 brat and gained a few mpgs. I bet it would make a more pronounced difference on the larger gen 2 brat.
  16. My wagon with the EA82 five speed returned a best ever of like 23.4 mpg driving at and average of 65 mph. I average around 21 usually and hardly evar dip below 20 mpg. I'm hoping that with the free flowing intake and exhaust will help that some. The stock stuff is garbage, but you have to think, what mpgs do WRXs and other turbo cars get? My Dad's rex doesn't get any better mileage than my car, so I'm not too worried.
  17. You can't actually. The rear diff uses eight bolts to attach the ring gear to the diff, while the front uses 12.
  18. I used all the EA82 parts, but needed shims for my flywheel bolts. You will need a flywheel from an 83+ EA81 (8 7/8" diameter clutch) and the friction disc and pressure plate from an EA82. Yes. You can use the two peice shaft off an EA82 (This requires welding the carrier bearing to the underside of the car). Or you can have your stock one lengthened, but to how long, I don't recall. This is the route I went with on my wagon. The only five speed during that time was 2WD. The tranny you want was only avalible in EA82 cars, so only look for those.
  19. Looks like its gonna be a lean year in this corner of the country this year...
  20. I want to get a cam for my project engine but haven't been able to find any pricing for an EA81 cam on their website or after searching the board. What have you paid in the past? **EDIT** Just called and for anyone else out there wondering an EA81 torquey grind will run about $55 with lifters running a couple bucks a peice.
  21. I'll let you know at the end of the quarter when I'm finished building my picante off-road motor. I'm going to be using EA71 pistions in an EA81, and some other goodies.
