From left to right with the ECU plug pointing at me: G (UB), LY (UFIX), YR (US), GND (YL).

EA81T MAF Code
Disconnect air flow meter connector, and measure resistance between Us and GND of air flow meter... Approx 70 Ohm when flap is fully closed Between Ub and GND: Approx 300 Ohm Ufix and GND: Approx 200 Ohm Us and GND (With flap opened fully): Approx 50 OHM (With flap closed fully): 500 Ohm Looks to be identical to the EA82 MAF.

From the EA81T wiring diagram supplement, May 1983: 1) Set key in switch in IG position. (Engine off) 2) Measure voltage between check connector II air flow meter Ufix (LY) + and ground (BR) - 3) Apporx 5V? I'll continue when you reply because its like 3 pages long and I have no scanner.

Yes and they work awesome!!! I've got a set and I'm VERY pleased with them so far.

Lighter flywheel
AMEN!!! I'm shocked that that it took five posts to get the truth out. A lightened flywheel will: NOT reduce torque NOT change the torque curve for the worse (WILL look better) make it easier to stall make your clutch easier to overheat (You are lightening your heat sink) NOT change your gearing NOT make it harder to accelerate up hill

Subiefest Rally X thread. Got pix or stories?
So what was the spread between new and old gen cars? I really wanted to go but was worried about not seeing any old school cars. My guess is that the two RXs were about it... Maybe a couple brats and other EA series but not enough to warrent a visit.

Need EA81 Info!
I have a bent inner tie rod on a EA81T power steering rack. I also have a good manual rack from a carb'd EA81. Are the inner tie rods from these two application interchangable? Does anyone have the part numbers for the two parts?

Ram Engines Did it again!
Heres what I got from my Power Mechanics class a couple years ago regarding camshaft drive systems: Cogged belts are light, strong, durable, but you would be lucky to breach 100k miles with them. Chain driven systems are stronger than belts and more durable, but are heavy and can stretch, plus they wear out tensioners. Gear driven systems can handle high speeds (F1), they are accurate and can have very tight packaging but are heavy, expensive and noisy compared to the other systems. It all depends on your application. FHI could have used a chain or even gears on the EA82 engine, but it was simpler and more cost effective to use belts. One advertising slogan during the 80's was "Inexpensive and built to stay that way" and this was one of those things they did to ensure that.

Thats what I ended up doing, and it worked. Now to do the same to my EA71! WooHoo!!

Who would give up on this one?
I would buy a west coast car if I were you.... Who knows what other evil lurks under that poor, tired, rusted out car...

HELP! Wrist Pin Removal
Well the claw hammer method was a bust for me. I guess I'll try to borrow a slide hammer from Schucks or something.

Has anyone made any advancements in their turbo installs?
Not to hijak the thread, but I have the capability to port heads and manifolds if anyone is interested for their projects. I'll have pics soon and numbers for my work before the end of the quarter hopefully. Oh and clutch wise, Clutchnet.com used to list all the old subarus, but they are hard to get a hold of and their new page doesn't list our cars anymore.

making power on ea82t
Yeah, the stock carb'd EA81 pistons are like 8.7:1 or something while the stock turbo ones are 7.7:1.

Has anyone made any advancements in their turbo installs?
I don't even have my VF11 in yet!! I got the SS header on, then ran into the problem of not having an o2 sensor port. That is being solved with a 3" DP, but I have to work to get that in, and thats just to get it running on the stock turbo. From there I'll turn up the boost a little and work on getting my WRX IC in there. Once all that is done I can look at the VF11 and then MegaSquirt 'n' Spark. I'll keep everyone updated in a seperate thread once meaninful progress is made. Current Mods: BoostedBalls SS header MSD Blaster 3 coil custom 2.5" exhaust w/ Flowmaster muffler K&N stock panel filter in cut airbox EA82 5 speed swap Lots of gauges
