  1. +1 to all this. in 15years, I've never had to replace a subaru starter. No start problems have always been either a bad battery connection/low voltage issue, an ignition switch issue (EA cars), or the worn contacts mentioned above.
  2. is that an er27 sitting in the bed of the blue one? hope it isn't getting water in the cylinders.
  3. don't think so. too narrow. if you have trouble finding an ea82 manual rack, let me know. i have one i could send you.
  4. i recently had a car like this. turned out he had filled up from a dubious sorce [buddys got a farm gas tank out back that somehow got a bunch of water in it.] well, i had to drain the tank, blow out all the lines, and replace all 4 injectors [i just put a new intake w/fuel rails on it] try some gas drier first.
  5. no and no all EA82 crossmembers are the same, except for the exhaust notch on the turbo cars. but they all bolt on the same, share the same dimensions, and accept either type of racks. not all turbo EA82s had power steering (I read an old article from Road & Track where they test drove a bunch of 4wd cars in the eighties. They tested manual steering, Dual Range 4wd RX sedan) although most EA82T did have power steering. it would only be early (85,86)RXs that might have manual steering. 87+ everything had powersteering.
  6. i stilll don't understand why people ask question on this board when they already insist they know the answers. again, if you haven't tried it, you don't know. you are goin by your eyeball and a crude measurment, instead of listening to PEOPLE WHO HAVE DONE IT AND KNOW!
  7. dayco(?)hoses, but the #s should interchange with goodyear.
  8. You need to make sure you get the correct diff in there as well. Is it possible that you got a non-turbo USDM tranny? those would be 3.9 and you're turbo is 3.7
  9. Those are stock Forrester wheels in the above pic of the red legacy. Pretty sure they are the same offset as your wheels.
  10. it's just too nice man. nobody has anything to say but
  11. good. will the wires refered to on the chart as "1800" only even be in the harness? And how about things like fuel pressure sensors? needed? cause CEL?
  12. All 2wd GL10s from 88 on. Optional on all other models. Standard on all Loyales. Haven't been in too many Loyales? have ya?
  13. Sweet. Thanks. I figured it wouldn't be too hard just wanted some direction. That chart is for Impreza, but hopefully the ECU pins will be the same.
  14. Looks like the passenger side head breather. It is probably disconnected in the back, where it attaches to the big black box.
  15. So I've now done a few MPFI turbo harness, a few SPFI harness, and recently completed my first strip down and install of an early EJ22 harness (93 Legacy) For my next trick, lol...... Next swap donor is a 96 manual trans outback. EJ22 with OBD II. My questions: 1. anybody have a pinout for this ECU? 2. Anyone (Chux) have any advice or helpful tidbits for sorting out the OBD II harness?
  16. These hoses worked to adapt from EA rad to EJ engine. These hoses should work with a 4" to 6" lift on EA81 Lower hose. Upper hose.
  17. Sounds just like what S'ko did. His brat was my original inspiration for my GL. As he pointed out when building that brat (poor thing, RIP), having the EA82 rack with the EJ conversion makes power steering options easy. With 2 inch blocks, I'm sure you could do it really easily. IIRC you will need about 3/4 inch offset between the holes. But seriously, S'ko has measurements and a diagrahm that are very excact. Perhaps he would be kind engouh to share?
  18. No, probably run it till it blows up. I will bring some extra tools in case I have to put it in on the spot. But it seems to be holding up fine. I used it to drag a wrecked outback on 3 wheels about 100 yards from the field to my shop yesterday. Got a tiny bit of clutch smell but it held fine.
  19. Let's clarify. ALL of the vehichles in discusson here share a common plattform. It really doesn't matter what combination, other than end results. This was the car lifted, with Forrester struts, but with stock(ish) size tires. you can almost see how close the rear perch is. Forrester tophats are taller, but the actual strut is a hair shorter than the Outback. When you think about the fact that the Outback weights several hundred pounds more, it starts to make sense that they gave them the beefiest springs, and the most travel.
  20. 96-99 Outback struts will clear 235/75/15 with no spacers. This car: Has 235/75/15s. 2 different makes and tires even in this same size. Been running them over a year now. 205/75/15 would have fit his car perfectly fine. Tires don't flex or bulge at there tops.
  21. My car I incorporated the lift and the Crossmember modification. I think it could be done without the lift though. The radius rods from the EA82 simply bolt into the EA81 mounts. So the only modification is the front subframe/crossmember. The flat areaon the EA82 for bolt holes is too far apart [for the EA81 bolt holes to line up] and rounds down into the crossmember . So what I did was to cut 2 flaps in that rounded area and bend them up, into new flat areas that I put holes in to line up with the EA81 body rails. It took some heat and a hammer. I used a piece of plate to reinforce the tabs, and welded them to the lift blocks. Without a lift, you could simply gusset the flaps to the crossmember. *note. I actually drove the car for months, and several wheelin trips with just the tabs folded up, and no reinforcement. It never budged.....the reinforcement was just for good measure. So if you aren't gonna wheel it, you could get away with no welding.
  22. I have a correct size friction plate now, but have yet to install it. I'm gonna see just how long the little 200mm clutch will hang on. It's been great so far. Been daily driving it for the last week, with no signs of slippage yet.
  23. I think one of those Later FEB. dates could work for me. Just a thought.......everybody should have shovels. If we had done more digging out and less "pulling" we would have had more rigs with happier clutches.
  24. 3AT came behind lots of Turbo EA82s which had roughly the same power as a non-turbo EJ. Honestly.......It will all be dependent on how it's driven. If it's not revved up and dropped into gear for burnouts, I think it will be just fine.
